Wil Linder’s latest song ‘Keep Getting Fooled’ is a raw, real country song tinted with grunge, an emotive tale told from behind a bottle, pouring his soul into the glass in front of him. Steady and impactful drums permeate throughout the song, and Wil’s subtle twang adds a husky edge to his singing.
This song was built from lyrics thought up on a drive that were so vivid they showed up in his dreams– it’s an ode to those who get lost in their own minds, and the struggles that come with facing reality when the world you can dream up is so crystal clear. Wil reflects,
“You can dream all you like but sometimes reality is a harsh beast to face… At times, it’s the world turning its back on you and telling you to get a ‘real job’ or a ‘safe job’, other times it’s your own mind playing games with you and stealing the confidence you once had.”

1 What was the spark which lit your flame for music initially?
Pretend concerts with my mum when we dressed up as The Wiggles
2 An album or song that had a huge impact on you growing up?
Dad had a ‘Best Of Queen’ CD in his car that never got changed out. I think that influenced a lot of my taste.
3 First concert you ever attended?
Bruno Mars at what is now Qudos Bank Arena!
4 Which other person has had the biggest influence on your music career?
Marcus Mumford, his music has inspired me greatly through my entire music journey.
5 What was the main inspiration for your song ‘Keep Getting Fooled’?
This song actually came from a dream that I had! That dream came back to me in the car on a drive home and the words just started pouring out!
6 In general what’s the starting point for a Wil Linder song?
It’s generally the lyrics that start it out for me, a small line or thought that can then evolve into a greater thing.
7 What would be your dream collaboration?
I have to stand by Marcus Mumford, he’s been so influential for me, I couldn’t pass it up.
8 What would you like your music career to look like in 5 years time?
I’d love to be playing some bigger stages and festivals, with people singing my songs back to me!
9 What would you consider to be the favourite gig you have played so far?
My favourite gig has to be my album launch in September of last year. 200+ people in this old art-deco theatre in my local area. It was my dream gig as a teenager.
10 Tell us about your main guitar, where you got it and what you like about it.
My main guitar is a Rosa Red Gretch G5620T-CB which is quite the mouthful but it’s a beautiful guitar. The main thing I love about it is that it’s unique, its not something you see everybody playing.
11 An important life lesson someone gave/told you?
This is only minor, but my Pop once told me that he drives with the traffic lights. If he’s meant to be going straight but there’s a green left turn arrow, he’ll go that way. It makes driving surprisingly more enjoyable!
12 What’s next for Wil Linder?
Getting back into the studio to record some more songs! Ready for a big year next year!
