Lake Street Dive (US) are returning to Australia for their first tour in 8 years playing at Melbourne’s Royal Botanic Gardens (Live At The Gardens), Sydney (Enmore Theatre), Brisbane (Fortitude Music Hall) and Fremantle (Metropolis Fremantle) in March.
Formed in Boston, Lake Street Dive first met while studying jazz at the New England Conservatory of Music. Known for their distinctive fusion of jazz, soul, folk and classic pop, blending groovy rhythms, harmonious choruses and a ’70s pop vibe, with outstanding musicianship, catchy rhythms, perfect harmonies, clever lyrics and flawless vocals. Their sound has been described as “what you get when the Beatles and Motown have a party.” Their most recent album, Good Together (2024) showcases their signature style, with reviews stating, “So cool, this could be curated by Steve McQueen,” and “Imagine if Amy Winehouse had attended a writing class with Lowell George and got the Doobie Brothers to back her!”
Lake Street Dive have earned an Emmy nomination (for Somebody Feed Phil theme song), recorded popular covers of everyone from Backstreet Boys to Ace of Base, ABBA, Queen and Hall & Oates and have performed on The Colbert Report, Late Night with David Letterman and Conan.
Ahead of Lake Street Dive’s Australian tour next month, singer-songwriter and Australian Musician contributor Joshua Batten caught up with the band’s Rachael Price and Bridget Kearney over zoom call to chat about the band’s career and the Australian tour.
