KAT GRETA – GET UP AND GO (RE-IMAGINED) EP INTERVIEW

With newfound musical swagger, Melbourne’s multi-talented singer, songwriter percussionist Kat Greta returns with a reimagined version of her debut EP ‘Get Up &Go’. This time, she’s front and centre, delivering an alluring vocal performance and a fresh music video for her single, ‘Let It Go’. Originally released in 2022 with Kat on drums, this new rendition marks a transformative moment driven by self-belief and artistic vision.

“When I first released the EP, I wouldn’t dare sing it myself—I was the drummer, not the singer. Since then, I’ve embarked on a journey of growth, navigating personal struggles with mental health. Now, I feel empowered to share my stories in my own voice. This EP symbolises a fresh start that holds deep personal meaning.”

Singer, songwriter, percussionist Kat Greta sat down with Australian Musician editor Greg Phillips in her home studio to chat about the reimagined version of her EP ‘Get Up & Go’ and her career in general.

MORE ABOUT KAT GRETA
Kat Greta’s musical journey began early, starting with a toy xylophone and progressing to her first Pearl drum kit at 15. She further honed her skills at VCA, evolving into a versatile percussionist. Passionate about composition, she also studied classical piano under notable pianists Anatoly Dokumentov and Igor Machlak.

The ‘Let It Go’ music video features new scenes shot at the original beach location, blending past drum performances with her current vocal prowess. “It reflects my growth, intertwining elements of my past with my current artist identity.”

Filmed around Cape Schanck on the Mornington Peninsula—places dear to Kat—the video and song convey her belief in embracing life fully. Co-produced, mixed, and mastered by Lindsay Gravina (Adalita, Eskimo Joe, The Living End) at Birdland Studios, Get Up & Go captures Kat Greta’s musical rebirth with clarity and passion.

Melbourne/Naarm-based artist Kat Greta is making waves in the Pop and Indie scenes with her catchy melodies and dynamic percussion work. Developing a passion for music in her childhood home, Greta drew inspiration from a diverse range of early musical influences including Burt Bacharach, The Beatles, The Carpenters, Fleetwood Mac, The Seekers and Led Zeppelin. Exploring her talents from an early age, Greta’s musical skills encompass classical piano, violin, drums, singing, percussion, theory, and composition. Her love for 60s and 70s pop music has shaped her affinity for melody, harmonies, rhythms, and arranging.

Since the release of her debut single ‘Let It Go’ from her 2022 EP “Get Up &’ Go”, Kat has received notable appraisal. Her unique blend of modernity and empowerment continues to captivate audiences as she performs regularly as a solo artist and as part of the duo ‘Kat Greta & Van, along with appearances with her full band, delivering energetic performances and modern-retro hybrid compositions.
