As always the interview gods blessed us with a mixed bag of wonderful interviews with talented Australian and International musicians, including some outright music legends. In July this year, my company Mediaville took ownership of Australian Musician from the Australian Music Association and consequently, I decided to broaden our readership to a wider audience. PHIL MANNING: MELBOURNE GUITAR SHOW 2023 INTERVIEW
We started the year with an absolute local legend, singer, songwriter, guitar player and blues legend Phil Manning, who is without a doubt a national treasure. Phil Manning has been at the forefront of blues and roots music for over five decades, first coming to public attention as a member of pioneering blues band “Chain’, a prominent fixture on the Australian touring circuit during the sixties and seventies, and they’re still performing to this day. We spoke to Phil in regard to Bluesfest Byron Bay, Bluesfest Melbourne, and the 2023 Melbourne Guitar Show.
DOOBIE BROTHERS TOM JOHNSTON: BLUESFEST 2023 TOUR INTERVIEW
Ahead of their April trip to Australia, Australian Musician editor Greg Phillips sat down with Doobie Brothers’ co-founder Tom Johnston to chat about the band’s career, their latest album Liberte, and of course their upcoming April tour of Australia.

Authentic indie-rock, fusing big driving guitars, contrasting vocals and three part harmonies reads the label for Perth-based indie-rock band Lonesome Dove. Lonesome Dove were in Melbourne for a bunch of gigs and Australian Musician editor Greg Phillips invited them down to the Melbourne Guitar Show for a chat.
VICTOR WOOTEN PRE-AUSTRALIAN TOUR INTERVIEW
Five time Grammy Award winner Victor Wooten has been heralded as “the Michael Jordan of the bass” and “one of the most fearless musicians on the planet.” Australian Musician editor Greg Phillips had the honour of chatting to bass legend Victor Wooten ahead of the upcoming Australian tour with his brothers Joseph (keys, vocals), Roy (percussion, vocals) and Regi (guitar, vocals).
TWO CONCEPT MUSIC STAFF MEMBERS VOYAGE TO EUROVISION
In late February SBS and production partner Blink TV announced the artist who will represent Australia at the 67th Eurovision Song Contest in Liverpool, United Kingdom, and it was none other than Perth’s fearless, riff-laden, genre-bending band Voyager! An interesting side story to all of this is that not one but two members of the band, Simone Dow (Guitars) and Alex Canion (Bass), are staff members at acclaimed Perth music store Concept Music and needed to take leave from their positions in order to represent Australia at Eurovision. Fortunately Concept Music owner Graham Hoskins was thrilled for the band and happy to grant them leave. Not only that, Graham sat down with Simone and Alex for an extended chat about the band and their upcoming Eurovision journey.

CAM MCGLINCHEY – THE SCREAMING JETS ‘PROFESSIONAL MISCONDUCT’ INTERVIEW
A day after the memorial for fallen band member Paul Woseen, Australian Musician editor Greg Phillips had the honour of speaking with The Screaming Jets drummer Cameron McGlinchey, who has formed the band’s rhythm section along with Paully for the last six years. In the interview, Cam speaks about the enormous contribution Paul made to the new record and the band’s intentions to honour the guy by moving forward and taking this new music to the fans.
