DESPITE THE STREAMING NUMBERS, IT’S THE CLASSICS THAT THE NEW GUITARISTS ARE INTO

Today, Fender has revealed the most popular songs that Australia is playing on guitar right now, via its online learning platform, Fender Play. Despite all of the hype surrounding today’s music creators and their large streaming services numbers, data shows that it’s the classics that the kids are connecting with, such as David Bowie, Nirvana and Oasis. These are the artists inspiring us to pick up a guitar and play today. In fact of the current young guns, Danish popsters Lukas Graham are the only act apart from the obvious superstars like Billie Eilish and Ed Sheeran to appear in Fender’s top 20 list.

Fender Play is the complete online learning platform for guitar, bass and ukulele. With around a quarter of a million active users around the world, Fender Play offers a vast library of songs to play along to, with users able to choose a favourite genre and instrument of choice before Fender creates a personalised learning path just for you.

Research by the iconic guitar giant recently found that just 15% of adults in the UK are content with their current skill set, with learning an instrument being one of the top desired new skills. 39 percent think that learning a new skill is good for the brain and Fender’s research also found that having a skill or hobby to concentrate on would better help them switch off from day-to-day life – something that 70 percent of people struggle with, taking longer than an hour to relax once home from work.

Fender also recently launched its online Beginner’s Hub – a one-stop shop for everybody interested in learning guitar, bass or ukulele, full of tools, apps and advice for everything from choosing your first guitar to playing your first riff.
