Melbourne-born/Nashville-based Indie Folk artist Jordie Lane announces a return to Australia this August/September, for the first string of National Tour dates for his long-anticipated forthcoming studio album, ‘Tropical Depression’, the follow-up to his critically acclaimed album ‘Glassellland’.
Among the first round of tour dates announced are East Coast metro shows including double day/evening shows in Melbourne at Lane’s beloved Northcote Social Club, along with Sydney at The Great Club and Brisbane’s It’s Still A Secret. A heap of regional dates have also been announced in Victoria including, Beechworth, Castlemaine, Sandy Point, and Ararat, with other dates in Queensland and New South Wales slated for Eudlo, Mullumbimby, Eungai Creek, Newcastle, and Wollongong. Tickets for all shows are on sale now via jordielane.com and directly through venues.
Jordie has been making clear to fans elsewhere that he won’t leave them hanging, being stated as saying: ‘I haven’t played Australia in a long time, and just want everyone to know we have a second round of Australian tour dates soon to be announced for the other cities and regional areas, so don’t get mad at me, we are gonna try and get everywhere’.
To coincide with the tour announcement, Lane today drops second single ‘Blame Me If You Want To’ , via his first ever label deal, working with ABC Music. To celebrate, there will be a stunning and unique ‘interactive pullout art’ Special edition Album Vinyl, available HERE for Pre Order, along with limited participating ticket outlets on the tour.
In contrast to the deceptive happy-go-lucky first single ‘The Changing Weather’, with its 60’s meets 90’s folk pop, Jordie’s second offering ‘Blame Me If You Want To’ hits more with a straight ahead intimate feeling, starting with nothing but guitar and voice, and a lyrical story that lays itself bare, its characters’ struggling with social anxiety and depression, and societal pressures, and Lane himself reflecting on his own personal struggles.
This standout verse is playful and humorous, yet tragic and sad and it sums up the song most;
“Sleeping, sleeping in again, Oh I know how that goes my friend
Sucking like a vampire when it suits, Tailor made like them old cowboy boots
Life of the party then you’re hiding round the bend, Swinging so fast like a Tik-Tok trend
Bring me down with you, oh what a thing to do”
With his trademark irreverent wit and social commentary, and a Grammy winning producing, mixing and mastering team, Jordie Lane offers a conceptually deep, yet deceptively light collection of Americana and Psych-Folk songs in this first full length offering in 8 years. The forthcoming album Tropical Depression explores the curious converging of Lane’s own experience with severe weather and mental health battles.
The album was recorded in Nashville, Tennessee, with Grammy nominated producer, engineer and instrumentalist Jon Estes (Kacey Musgraves, Dolly Parton, Rodney Crowell), mixed by famed engineer Noah Georgeson (The Strokes, Devandra Banhart, Marlon Williams) and mastered by Juno Award winning Phillip Shaw Bova (Feist, Father John Misty, Angel Olsen, Bahamas).
Jordie Lane marks this new chapter with a sound that consistently defies genres, with his latest wandering somewhere close to the outskirts of Americana and 60’s inspired Folk while “creating a pathbreaking and inspiring sound” all of its own. The songs on Tropical Depression tackle (among other things) Lane’s own growing obsession with extreme weather (ignited by a close call with an EF-3 Tornado) and its eventual collision with his own mental health battles.
Blame Me If You Want To is out now.
The album Tropical Depression is out August 16, 2024 via ABC Music / The Orchard / Blood Thinner Records and is available now for Pre-order here and via jordielane.com.
