We know rockin’ Melbourne duo King Canyon as our friends Jimmy Cupples (vox) and James Ryan (guitar), the songwriting force that formed the band in 2020. Their very first collaboration during lockdown was a thrilling and smooth process, which paved the way for a whirlwind of songwriting sessions. They quickly discovered an uncanny freedom to their approach, which allows them to explore different genres. Attendees at the 2023 Melbourne Guitar Show will long remember their performance at the Caulfield Racetrack. To date the band has released eight singles, with their debut album just around the corner.
The impressive list of performance credits highlights the decades of experience and versatility between the four members including, Men at Work, Tina Arena, Daryl Braithwaite, Deep Purple, Brian Cadd, Vanessa Amorosi, The Badloves, Ross Wilson, Kate Ceberano, Vika & Linda, Glen Shorrock, Richard Clapton and more.
Now the Canyon clan has delivered yet another piece of volcanic rock titled ‘Blacktop’ an edgy detour for the Melbourne four piece King Canyon. It’s a fast paced thrill ride through layers of thick fuzz and pounding drums, with whispers of Queens of the Stone Age in the verse. The fearless chorus chant is like a dare to the listener; “Just try not to sing along, Go on!”
Blacktop was produced, Engineered and Mixed at Brooklet Recordings in Brooklet, NSW, Australia by Grammy Award winning producer Nick DiDia (Springsteen, Stone Temple Pilots, Pearl Jam, Powderfinger, The Living End, Train) and Mastered at Studio 301, Sydney, Australia by Leon Zervos
You can also catch Jimmy and James in one of their Zeppelin Unledded shows in February 2024, where they’ll be celebrating Led Zeppelin’s unique blend of rock and folk music, based on the Page & Plant album “No Quarter” Feat: Jimmy Cupples, James Ryan, Kit Riley, Haydn Meggitt, accompanied by Middle Eastern trio “Alwan” and String Quartet “Carneval” performing stunning versions of tracks including Kashmir, Gallows Pole, Battle of Evermore, Going to California….this is a show Zeppelin fans won’t want to miss!
