SUNBLEACHED ‘I Crawled Into The Hole’ (EP)
Brisbane alt-rock band Sunbleached unveil their latest EP ‘I Crawled Into The Hole’ today, and share video for Beware Of The Dog. This week they joined UK’s Boston Manor as main supports for their three headline shows across New South Wales and Victoria and will showcase next week at BIGSOUND Festival in Brisbane.
Produced and recorded with long time collaborator Dylan Cottee, new EP ‘I Crawled Into The Hole’ is a nostalgic exploration of Sunbleached’s sound across their releases since their debut, specifically building on elements established on the quartet’s 2023 sophomore EP release, ‘Delicate Places We Hide’. The new release features singles White Lace, Hell is Repetition, and No Cure For Life, which garnered radio support from multiple triple j programs, Eleven on Double J, Unearthed and community radio stations across the nation as well as editorial playlisting on Spotify and Apple Music. STREAM
Beware Of The Dog is the final single to be shed from the EP, and leans on heavier foundations. In short, the track thematically is a middle finger to the man and draws from vocalist Josh Baker’s experience at a previous workplace, feeling undervalued, overworked and taken advantage of. The song is angry, grungy and frustrated, and comes paired with a music video that echos the sentiment – watch here.
Sunbleached officially join the BIGSOUND 2024 lineup with acts including Stand Atlantic, Sly Withers, Dear Seattle, Belle Haven and more. In 2022 the band were invited to play Destroy All Lines BIGSOUND showcase, where they won over the room and quickly became ones to watch. Sunbleached’s dedication and passion for their project has seen them welcomed to the Destroy All Lines agency roster and pick up new management from 27 Music (Teenage Joans, Bec Stevens, The Tullamarines).
Sunbleached is Josh Baker (vocals), Bradley Maddaford (guitar), Zane Hughes (bass) and Brent Ottley (guitar). With all members winding down from previous music projects, sunbleached set out in 2020 to create a fresh and authentic alternative rock project ripping inspiration from decades past, reimagined for the present. Don’t miss Sunbleached playing BIGSOUND next week on September 4 and 5! ‘I Crawled Into The Hole’ EP is out now and streaming everywhere.

CERES ‘Britney Spears’ + ‘In The Valley’ (Singles) Magic Mountain (1996-2022) (Album out Oct 4)
The wait is finally over! Ceres are officially back with their sprawling new album MAGIC MOUNTAIN (1996—2022), out October 4 via Cooking Vinyl Australia. A double album as ambitious as it is profoundly personal, MAGIC MOUNTAIN (1996—2022) is the band’s first record in five years and is available for pre-order here.
Alongside news of the album comes two brilliant new singles “Britney Spears” and “In The Valley”. “Britney Spears” is a fists-flung barnburner that drags the absolute best out of every member of Ceres. A showcase in particular for multi-instrumentalist Stacey Cicivelli’s powerful vocals, the video sees her and Tom Lanyon share the driver’s seat with their achingly beautiful vocal harmonies narrating a nostalgic trip around the lush magic mountain.
Meanwhile, “In The Valley” pairs things right back with its delicate arrangement of piano, strings and voice musing on picking up the pieces of yourself, as broken as they may be, and starting again. Listen to “In The Valley” here.
Ceres have never been a band to waste a note. Every chorus, deliberately constructed. Every communique, purposeful and impactful. Every live show, deeply meaningful and belted out with no single drop of fuel left in the tank. Everything has its right place and they are a band that would much rather say nothing than say something devoid of meaning or merit. And thus, sans fanfare, grandeur, or acknowledgement, the group was placed on hold in late 2019. Fitting, too, that shortly afterwards so was the world. But even in the most static of our times, life moved forward. Bittersweet, agonising, magnificent life. Written and recorded over four years, Ceres’ new effort is a mammoth 25-track double album that isn’t done – or divided – by halves. As close to an auteur effort as a group project can be, MAGIC MOUNTAIN (1996—2022) chronicles singer/songwriter Tom Lanyon’s deeply personal journey of rediscovery, nostalgia, patience, heartache, and joy. From his move back to his roots atop Melbourne’s Mt. Dandenong, to his agonising journey through a four-year battle to conceive a child, to the agony and heartache of a miscarriage, and the life-affirming joy of pregnancy and fatherhood finally realised.
“In 1997 there was a huge fire. My brother and I got evacuated by the CFA. I heard them say ‘it’s coming over the top of Magic Mountain’. I was so afraid,” says Lanyon. “In 2019 we moved back the mountain. Bought a house in a valley. Settled in to start our family. We tried and failed and tried and failed. We were so afraid.
In 2022 you arrived. New and good and impossible and ours. You were not afraid. In 1996, it all started. Nostalgia, melancholy, loss, absolution. 26 years in the making. MAGIC MOUNTAIN (1996—2022).” At times rambunctious, at others reserved, MAGIC MOUNTAIN (1996—2022) is, at its core, a treatise on life; of life lost and life new; of life long forgotten and life rediscovered; of life in all its beautiful, ugly, gut-wrenching, mundane splendour.
Engineered and mixed by Joel Taylor, and compositionally aided by Tom Bromley of Los Campesinos! fame, MAGIC MOUNTAIN (1996—2022) is a dense, layered, stunning effort that will be pored over by listeners for years to come. https://www.facebook.com/ceresband
TIA GOSTELOW feat Adam Newling ‘I Remember Everything’ (Single out Aug 30)
Renowned indie artist Tia Gostelow has released her latest single, a stunning cover of Zach Bryan and Kacey Musgraves’ Billboard #1 hit ‘I Remember Everything’. Adam Newling joins Tia on this duet, and the track was produced by her long-time collaborator and friend, Matthew McGuffie.
This powerful interpretation showcases Tia’s signature sound, blending her folk roots with Adam Newling’s distinct gruff voice, making this cover a standout collaboration that will surprise and captivate.
Announcing the release of her latest song, Tia expressed her deep connection to the project: “I absolutely love this song—the lyrics, the melodies, and the way Zach and Kacey’s voices blend together are just everything to me.”
Reflecting on her roots, Tia shared, “Growing up, I spent a lot of time performing at Country Music Talent quests, jumping on stage with bands I’d never met before, and playing songs together for the first time. Through these experiences, I learned to harmonise and truly feel the music, which is why it feels so comforting to be releasing this cover.”
Tia has long admired Adam, having been a fan for years. “When he agreed to collaborate on this song, I was over the moon,” she said. “It’s incredibly special to connect with someone through music, and I’m so grateful we were able to create something so beautiful together.”
Adam Newling adds: “Tia asked me to be on the song, and I was honoured. I love Tia, and I love the song; it was a real joy to be a part of it.”
The new single will be released this Friday, August 30th, and available on all major streaming platforms.

KING STINGRAY ‘Cat 5 (Cyclone)’ (Video)
King Stingray get down to business, rocking shirts and ties in their brand new video ‘Cat 5 (Cyclone)’. Watch HERE.
The band have called ‘Cat 5 (Cyclone)’ their “first ever love song”. Directed by Sam Brumby, the video for the single comes hot on the heels of the announcement of their highly anticipated second album, For the Dreams.
The 12-track album will be released on Friday 8th November. Pre-order here.
A lot has happened for King Stingray since they released their 2022 debut self-titled album, which took the group from what guitarist/producer Roy Kellaway calls “a pretty sleepy, rural lifestyle in the bush” to one of epic touring and the excitement of being a band on the rise.
Not surprisingly, those experiences inform the new album. Don’t, however, expect a weary account of the rigours of life on the road – as with their debut, For The Dreams is a joyous celebration of life and the planet on which we live that oozes optimism from its every note.
But where some of the songs on the debut dated as far back as high school in the Northern Territory, where the band began, For The Dreams is a snapshot of the past few years in the members’ lives.
“Nothing’s changed in the sense that we’re still who we are, we’re still playing music and enjoying things. But what I think is different about this one is there’s a little bit more lived experience…”
That lived experience is represented in several recurring themes throughout the album – the golden glow of nostalgia amidst the rush of life; the joy of simple living in a digital age; the bliss of slowing down and returning home to Country; and finding optimism in challenging times.
The group’s mantra when recording For The Dreams was “Yaka Muckaround!”, meaning “We’re not mucking around!” Studio sessions were booked around Australia so that any downtime between gigs could be used to harness their live energy. The songwriting goals were to “level up” rather than reinvent the group’s sound. “We wanted a lot of singalong moments… We were thinking a little bit more about getting everyone in on the party.”
King Stingray’s debut album earned them five ARIA nominations and won them the Breakthrough Artist gong; took out the Australian Music Prize and won the Album of the Year and Best Independent Rock Album at the 2023 AIR Awards. Impressive for a band that have stayed true to themselves, blending raucous rock’n’roll and the ancient Indigenous tradition of manikay (song/songlines), organically building a fanbase until the momentum became unstoppable.
As the band sing in new song ‘Southerly’, “We were just a couple of kids/With a couple of big ideas”. With For The Dreams, those ideas are only getting bigger.

JENNY MITCHELL ‘Where the Water’s Cold’ (Single)
Nashville bound songwriter Jenny Mitchell drops new single of sass and soul – Where the Water’s Cold
Watch video here / Stream here
Days before her first trip to Nashville, New Zealand’s Jenny Mitchell releases a bold single of sass and country soul titled, Where the Water’s Cold. Released via Cooking Vinyl Australia, this track takes listeners ‘way down south’ to the illicit moonshine stills of Mitchell’s hometown history.
“I definitley had some fun exploring some of the challenges of small town gossip, mixed in with some of the whiskey-stained history of my hometown.”
The accompanying video for Where the Water’s Cold was filmed on location at Coronet’s Peak in Queenstown, New Zealand. View HERE.
The award-winning storyteller recently received a scholarship from the Australian Academy of Country Music and Sister Cities Nashville, to attend Nashville’s iconic AmericanaFest and co-write with Nashville locals this September. As she packs her bags, preparing to soak up the atmosphere of music city, her rapidly growing audience can step inside a single featuring trumpets, cutting lyrics and cheeky backing vocals from her sisters, The Mitchell Twins.

Jenny’s musical upbringing was firmly planted in country but her songwriting and material is a unique blend of folk, Americana and country. SOUTH SUMMIT ‘Catacombs’ (Single)
West Australia’s favourite sons South Summit have today released their third single for 2024, titled ‘Catacombs’. The soulful new track comes alongside the announcement ‘The Bliss’; the band’s long-awaited debut album set for release on the 8th of November.
The talented 5-piece have shown different sonic angles to their sound on recent releases, and ‘Catacombs’ is no different. With a deep, contagious groove and a confident, attitude-filled delivery from frontman Zaya Reuben, this track is definitely one of the most danceable in the band’s discography so far. This was a very deliberate move from the band throughout the writing process, pushing to find a listening experience their growing fan-base can move to.
“In ‘Catacombs’ we really buckled down on finding the groove and focused heavily on bringing in sounds to create this Hip Hop/dance/funk track. Creating a piece of art where people can listen to the song and feel like they can express themselves, really ties in to the process of adding in synthesised effects combined with deep bass lines, groovy guitars and strong melodic elements. This track was pure from the start and it’s definitely a sound we’d love to keep exploring.” NEMO REUBEN, SOUTH SUMMIT
Lyrically, the track delves into pain and trauma, and how we tend to bury that mentally. Although things may seem perfect on the outside, some memories will always stick with you, and ‘Catacombs’ are used as a metaphor for those memories.
Produced by Dave Parkin (Spacey Jane) at Perth’s Blackbird Sound Studio with mastering from Brian Lucey (Post Malone, The Black Keys), ‘Catacombs’ is the third single from the album, after ‘Givin’ It Up’ and ‘Ottoway’ released earlier this year. The three singles give a great glimpse into the expansive, slick sound found on ‘The Bliss’ – an album that shows off new stylistic directions for the band, whilst still staying true to the sound South Summit fans have come to love over the years.
The band have just finished their first european tour with legendary Melbourne band The Cat Empire – an experience that the band will cherish for years to come. The engaging nature of South Summit’s music has earned them industry, media and radio acclaim, with triple j and Triple J Unearthed coming on as early champions of the group, nominating South Summit as Unearthed Artist Of The Year at the 2023 J Awards. The band have since hit rotation on the national youth broadcaster on multiple occasions, with an add for ‘Sidelines’ in 2023, as well as ‘The Bliss’ singles ‘Givin’ It Up‘ & ‘Ottoway’.

FALLOW FIELDS ‘Rocky Head Road’ (Album)
Based in the misty hills of the Dandenong Ranges in Victoria, Australia, Fallow Fields are a captivating alt-country ensemble led by the husband and wife songwriting duo, Danna and Rachel Simmons.
This is the album that almost never was, over and over again. Looking back on the making of this album is like opening a photo book and looking back on your life. Everything that happens in Fallow Fields is a product of happenstance. An unplanned, unscripted, seemingly random series of events, that leads us to now.
Rocky Head Road is the story of Danna and Rach Simmons… although we didn’t always share a surname. The songs contained herein are an aural journey of our relationship – from the enthusiasm and nerves of a new relationship, through the ups and downs, the growing together of a relationship forming, to the growing apart… a relationship imploding.
And then, a realisation that there is a still a spark, glowing faintly in the ashes of our relationship. A nurturing of this spark, into a fire and bond so strong, not in spite of the hardship and hurt, but because of it. This album would never have been had we not lived this life. These songs are a record of this life. We never would have started singing together if we didn’t find ourselves on an interstate road trip, bound for a gig for a band that didn’t exist, with songs that were as yet unwritten. The album would never have been recorded if not for Matt Simmons, who urged us to dig the songs out from the metaphorical cardboard box under the bed, and commit them to tape.
This album would not have happened if COVID hadn’t locked us down. This gave us the time together to finish these songs and rediscover the enjoyment in playing music together. It gave us the time and motivation to build our recording studio.
The album would not have sounded the same if it weren’t for the generosity of Andy Nolan, Mike Simmons and Matt Simmons, who gave up their annual holiday time to spend it cramped in a sweaty little room in the middle of summer with no air con, thrashing these songs out. It would not have the same sparkle, if it weren’t for the skill of some of our favourite players (Shane Rielly, Ken Gardner, Kiernan Box and Lucy Rash), who had the generosity of spirit to fit this lil ole project in between what they were working on. It never would have felt ‘finished’ if it weren’t for the amazing skill, generosity of time, care and attention to detail of the artist in charge of mixing the album, Paul McKercher, or the equally skilled mastering artist, William Bowden.
It never would have looked this good if it weren’t for Lucy Spartalis and Sarah Graham turning their skilled eye to the cover art. This album is a record. A record of our life together so far. A record of the product of a whole bunch of beautiful souls colliding and exploding in glorious music. You don’t plan that. You don’t plan life. Just try and take a snapshot of it every now and then. MATHILDE ANNE ‘Normal’ (Album)
When Australian artist Mathilde Anne tells her story, you know she’s speaking for you, too. Whether in haunting beauty, or lyrically shooting from the hip, Mathilde speaks her mind. Wildly writing from personal experience and feeling, her sights are always set on offering a sense of understanding and representation.
Fresh from her recent nomination for an Australian Women in Music Award, 21-year-old singer-songwriter Mathilde Anne is thrilled to reveal a project that has been two years in the making – her highly anticipated debut album, ‘Normal’.
‘Normal’ features a diverse, genre-bending tracklist that explores themes of self-acceptance, toxic relationships and personal empowerment through Mathilde’s enchanting and distinct vocals. The album explores the challenges of life as a woman on the spectrum and accepting one’s truth in a world that often feels unaccommodating. With an unapologetic approach, ‘Normal’ also celebrates those differences promoting strength, self-approval, and just being a straight-up, bad-ass bitch when you need to.
“My debut album is here to help anyone struggling with mental health. It’s a series of fixations, emotions, and experiences from my lens as a woman on the spectrum,” explains Mathilde. “Neurodiversity allows me to see the world differently, a gift I cherish and hope shines through in my music.”
‘NORMAL’ Recorded over two years with acclaimed Naarm producer James Seymour (Elizabeth M. Drummond, Romanie), ‘Normal’ is an enthralling blend of sounds and structures that leaves the listener guessing at every turn. Whether embracing musical tension reminiscent of a James Bond film or channelling her inner Lana Del Rey – one constant throughout the album is Mathilde’s unwavering authenticity.
From solidifying her self-proclaimed “drama queen” status with the heart-wrenchingly theatrical ‘Break’ (ft. Des Cortez) to stripping it all back on ‘To Be Honest’, Mathilde Anne’s debut effort demonstrates impressive versatility. Her unique perspective on the world allows dark, sinister instrumentation in tracks like ‘Crime Scene Cadillac’ to stand on their own two feet, while seamlessly coexisting with the bubbly, intoxicating vocal delivery of most recent single ‘Haunt You (When I’m Gone)’.
With ‘Normal’, Mathilde Anne offers a refreshing take on the complexities of life and identity. It’s a bold statement from an artist who isn’t afraid to embrace her uniqueness and share her raw experiences with her community. ‘Normal’ eloquently captures the world as Mathilde sees it – anything but.

CHASE ATLANTIC ‘Die For Me’ (Single)
Once again, Chase Atlantic prove that they are authors of their own genre. DIE FOR ME is a dreamy, beat-driven slow jam that will wrap around you with every listen. LISTEN | WATCH VISUALIZER
DIE FOR ME finds Chase Atlantic returning to their signature sound, which they have perfected over the past few years, influencing thousands of artists across the globe. Incorporating a mixture of avant-garde production with nostalgia, the song draws many narratives, the most potent of which being a passionate Bonnie and Clyde-esque relationship. DIE FOR ME is the first official release for the band’s eagerly awaited fourth studio album, giving the listener a very brief insight into the new Chase Atlantic universe. The Aussie-born, LA-based trio yet again blur the boundaries of modern, Gen Z-inspired pop music.
Chase Atlantic will also embark on a massive North American headline tour this October and November.
Representing the missing link between woozy trap, nocturnal R&B, and psychedelically-spun alternative, Chase Atlantic blur boundaries of modern, Gen Z-inspired pop music by being fearlessly experimental. The band has amassed over 5.4 billion Spotify streams, and has received acclaim from KTLA, Billboard, OnesToWatch, mxdwn, PopCrush, Alternative Press, Substream Magazine, and Rock Sound, of which they graced the cover. The Australia-born and Los Angeles-based trio — Mitchel Cave, Clinton Cave, and Christian Anthony — boldly push forward on a prolific creative journey while signed to Fearless Records. Their single OHMAMI hit an impressive 96 million streams in only six months. Along the way, they canvased multiple continents, headlined across the U.S., UK, and Europe, and sold out venues, such as the Hammersmith Apollos in the UK (15,000 people, 3 times) and The YouTube Theater in Los Angeles — in addition to gracing the stages of Bonnaroo, Lollapalooza, and main stage Reading & Leeds in 2023. They dropped the new single MAMACITA in 2023 and continue working on more, eagerly awaited new material. https://chaseatlantic.com/
SOFI TUKKER ‘Bread’ (Album)
SOFI TUKKER, the GRAMMY-nominated, genre-defying duo comprised of Sophie Hawley-Weld and Tucker Halpern, have unleashed their new third studio album BREAD, the band’s most daring, innovative and infectious body of work to date.
In addition to being a symbol of abundance, energy, sensuality and community, BREAD is an acronym for “Be Really Energetic And Dance.” It’s an invitation for a shared experience to “break bread” through musical connection. A sonic pleasure dome of dance-laden bangers, BREAD blends house, Brazilian funk, drum and bass, bossa nova, pop, Portuguese poetry, and, most crucially—fun. Special guests on the album include Kah-Lo, MC Bola and Channel Tres.
The band comment, “The BREAD world is vivid – a celebration of life and sensuality intended to give the listener energy, just like carbs. Bread is also something people all around the world use to connect, gather and share. We’re reminded that it feels amazing to lose your inhibitions, feel energised and dance. The creative thread throughout BREAD explores togetherness, the magic of the Brazilian essence, which the music is inspired by, as well as a playful surrealism that says: live life to the fullest, eat all the BREAD, and BE REALLY ENERGETIC AND DANCE.”
SOFI TUKKER has also dropped the new music video for ‘Woof’, featuring special guest GRAMMY-nominated dance-pop sensation Kah-Lo. Shot on a semi-trailer rig cruising the streets of their home base in New York City, the clip is a high-energy, irresistible jaunt. With live performance vignettes, the video also features cameos by Brazilian-America model & TV host Luca Castellani, Peloton instructors Hannah Corbin and Rebecca Kennedy, dance group Bob’s Dance Shop (a fixture of SOFI TUKKER live shows), celebrity tattoo artist Trudy Lines of Bang Bang giving Tucker a tattoo, and NYC members of the SOFI TUKKER’s fan community The Freak Fam.
Sophie comments on the track, “We always knew ‘Woof’ was special. Fans may recognise it from when we DJ ’ed it in our live stream in 2020. We added a cool guitar sample, plus some live guitar, and Kah-Lo slays her verse. There are actually five languages on the track: Portuguese, French, German, English, and Kah-Lo is speaking Yoruba. It’s very down-the-middle SOFI TUKKER. Tucker’s vocal, my Portuguese, the electric guitar—it feels true to what we’ve always done.” Tucker adds, “This is our personality. Sophie sings in four languages. I sing in a sarcastic deep voice. It has a guitar riff. It kind of reminds me of ‘Purple Hat,’ which is our biggest song, though ‘Woof’ is unique. It features our friend Kah-Lo, who’s an amazing Nigerian artist, and one of my favorite voices.”
Kah-Lo adds, “I loved collaborating with Sophie and Tucker on this song. We’ve done so much throughout our careers together but never a song. They’re my favourite people to work with in any capacity.”
Additional highlights on BREAD include ‘Hey Homie,‘ ‘Throw Some Ass,‘ which has racked up 21 million streams, and ‘Spiral,‘ with the music video co-starring Heidi Klum.
BREAD’s decadent album cover was shot by visual artist and fine art photographer Rob Woodcox , who captures Sophie wearing a custom gown (by Chris Habana) made entirely out of bread in front of the ornate Palácio das Laranjeiras, the stunning residence of the Governor of Rio de Janeiro. The setting also served as the backdrop for the wildly colourful and “cheeky” video for “Throw Some Ass.”
SOFI TUKKER’S fall North American headline tour will be their biggest to date, with Confidence Man and Shermanology supporting. Additional tour dates include supporting J Balvin in Australia and Kygo in Europe later this year.

CHIMERS ‘3am’ (Single) ‘Through Today’ (Album out November 3)
Having recently welcomed rising Wollongong duo Chimers to the Poison City family, Poison City Records are over the moon to announce their forthcoming sophomore album Through Today will be out November 8th via PCR and Gerard Cosloy’s 12XU (North America). The first new single ‘3AM’ (out now) serves as the perfect introduction to Chimers’ blend of urgent, buzzing post-punk & timeless sonic rock. Watch the video clip below & preorder the album via Poison City E-Store / Bandcamp or 12XU Records in North America.
Through Today is Chimers’ second long player, ten tracks of raw honest aggression capturing the band at their zeitgeist: right here and right now, as melody and power merge seamlessly into one. Recorded and mixed by Jonathan Boulet (Party Dozen, Body Type, Loose Fit) Through Today is a significant leap forward from Chimers’ self-released and self-titled 2021 debut. An album that started as a whisper and turned into a roar, regularly re-pressed as the band played shows across the country as the support act of choice to such luminaries as Mudhoney, Built To Spill, R.V.G, The Mark Of Cain, Scientists, Body Type, Victims, Screamfeeder, Civic and Cable Ties.
For their follow-up, Chimers moved out of the garage and into Wollongong’s Stranded Studios. The band made use of Boulet’s lightning-fast approach, recording 13 songs in just three days with executive rule ultimately trimming the fat to 10 for the album. Traces of late-eighties post-hardcore and alterna-sounds (Fugazi, Sonic Youth, Hüsker Dü) seep in and out of the album, but with Chimers’ direct and no-unnecessary-fills approach, the sound is always uniquely theirs. Padraic’s passionate, heart-on-sleeve vocal approach and singular, spidery guitar lines are intensified by the pummelling rhythms of drummer Binx. Jono’s minimalist approach and the collective mindset have resulted in a timeless album that sounds personal and quite unlike anything else to come soaring out of the Australian underground.
Continuing their reputation as a hardworking, constantly touring entity, Chimers have a whole swag of live dates on the calendar – including an epic run of shows supporting The Saints ‘73-’78. Don’t miss em’!

OZ”. The LP is limited to 300 copies only – 150 in fluro-green and 150 in green/white marble – and all copies come with a free download card. It is available to order now from
https://cheersquadrecordstapes.bandcamp.com/album/hell-oh-oz
September’s tour will be the legendary band’s first Australian tour since 2016. Known as Japan’s most dangerous live act and their unique blend of barbed-wire blues and toxic punk rock, KING BROTHERS promise a tour that will leave you breathless.
Taking to the stage dressed in what have become their trademark black and white suits, the group never fails to amaze audiences with their insanely high-octane performances. Within seconds, they burst into life and all hell breaks loose, with a cacophony of guitars, vocals and drums smashing full tilt into their waiting fans.
Formed on the gritty streets of Nishinomiya, Japan, in 1998, KING BROTHERS’ genre-smashing sound quickly garnered international attention, with the Godfather of Punk Blues himself, Mr. Jon Spencer, coming on board as their producer. With releases on EMI at home and on esteemed garage label In The Red in the US (In The Red described them as “the sound of the Germs backing Howlin’ Wolf with his hand caught in a garbage disposal” and as making “Guitar Wolf sound like Belle and Sebastian”), the band soon shared stages with the likes of the White Stripes and Strokes. They have gone on to take their powerful sound to stages around the world, including Fuji Rock Festival (Japan), Goner Fest (USA), and our own Meredith Music Festival, where they stole the show in 2007.
Next month’s tour will take them to Melbourne, Geelong, Brisbane, and Sydney, delivering unforgettable shows packed with fan favorites and new tracks. “HELL OH! OZ” will be available at shows, at good record stores and via Cheersquad Records Bandcamp, while stocks last. With only 300 copies being pressed, that will not be long.

CHEZ ‘So Good’ (Single)
Boorloo/Perth-based pop artist CHEZ has returned with her radiant single ‘so good’ – produced by the artist herself, Caleb Lenzo and Reece Lenzo (We The Kings, 44phantom, SK8). ‘so good’ opens with CHEZ’s vocals gliding over a high-energy bassline, setting the stage for a meticulously crafted, polished pop production. The soundscape brims with lush harmonies, providing a rich backdrop for the memorable chorus to float effortlessly over the crisp, dynamic instrumentation. Click to stream ‘so good’
CHEZ talks about the inspiration behind ‘so good’: “‘so good’ touches on a relationship that was falling apart, but where I was trying my best to keep it together and almost live in denial. After committing so much time to someone and watching our relationship slowly dwindle into existing together as strangers, there was an internal shame I felt and I didn’t want anyone to know how shit it really was out of being seen as a failure or the problem. It’s something I know a lot of people feel and experience and I think it was an important message to share.”
In the live scene, CHEZ recently sold out her debut headline show three weeks before the performance date (200 tickets). She has also shared the stage with acts such as Against The Current (USA), PVRIS (USA), Magnolia Park (USA) and Taylor Acorn (USA). Along with this, her previous releases have seen extensive support from Spotify, Apple Music, triple j, triple j Unearthed, Alt Press (USA), idobi Radio (USA) and Wall Of Sound.
Fresh off a sonic rebrand, ‘so good’ is the first track stepping away from CHEZ’s previous pop-punk sound. She shares, “It’s very exciting as this sound that is coming has felt the most authentic and real to me. For the longest time, I have been forcing my sound to the likes of those around me, taking outside opinions far too literally and just neglecting what feels like my truest form, which is writing, creating and making pop music with a slight alternative edge!”

REDHOOK ‘Mutation’ (Album out November 22)
To coincide with making their long-awaited triple j Like A Version debut Click to view ‘Greedy’ Like A Version, putting a horn-infused punk-goes-pop twist on Tate McCrae’s 2023 chart-busting single ‘Greedy’, Eora/Sydney-based alt-rock shapeshifters RedHook have officially announced their sophomore album, ‘Mutation’ – out Friday, November 22 (independently in Australia and internationally via Adventure Cat Records).
Pre-order / Pre-Save HERE.
Following on from their debut 2023 LP ‘Postcard From A Living Hell’, ‘Mutation’ was produced by the band’s good mate Stevie Knight (Stand Atlantic) with assistant production from RedHook’s own Craig Wilkinson and mixed by James Paul Wisner (Underoath, Paramore).
The record will be stacked with previous singles ‘Pyromaniac’, ‘Cannibal’ feat. Alpha Wolf, ‘Breaking Up With’, ‘Scream 2’ and ‘Tourist’ and see RedHook double down on everything that makes them one of the most exciting and paradigm-shifting bands in the modern heavy space.
Frontwoman Emmy Mack comments: “‘Mutation’ felt like the perfect name for this record because we wanted it to feel like an evolution in every single way, not just in RedHook’s sound, but in the stories we’re telling and the messages behind them. We want to offer new perspectives, challenge old ways of thinking and just hardcore double-down on being unapologetically ourselves. RedHook has always felt like a bit of a misfit. A lot of people don’t quite ‘get’ us. But we didn’t make this record for those people. We made it for the ones like us. The misfits, the outliers, the weirdos. We can’t wait for you to hear it.”
The news comes as RedHook gear up for their biggest Australian headline shows ever this August and September. The tour package is bursting with femme power, with the band to be joined by Naarm/Melbourne melodic rock force The Beautiful Monument and Mulubinba/Newcastle pop-punk stalwarts Eat Your Heart Out, with Boorloo/Perth metalcore rising stars Patient Sixty-Seven opening the night.
‘Postcard From A Living Hell’ peaked at #10 on the ARIA Album Charts and was triple j’s Feature Album of the Week. Previous singles off ‘Mutation’ have been added to full rotation on triple j, and playlist support has been seen from Spotify, Apple Music, Amazon Music, and Deezer. The band has also been featured on the cover of Spotify’s ‘All New Rock’, ‘Rock Out.’, ‘Homegrown + Heavy’, and Amazon Music’s ‘Breakthrough Rock’.
‘Mutation’ will be available worldwide on Friday, November 22

NICK WARD ‘Control’ (Single) ‘House With The Blue Door’ (Album out October 4)
A multi-talented artist, Nick Ward emerged with his brand of bedroom pop on triple Unearthed, releasing multiple tracks and refining his sound across debut EP “Everything I Wish I Told You”. Then came 2022’s “Brand New You” about which NME raved: “…a tightrope balance of bravado and self-doubt… few can make it as relatable, redemptive and hopeful”.
Rising Australian artist Nick Ward releases his new single, “Control”, the fourth track to be released from his forthcoming debut album “House With The Blue Door”, out October 4. Born from a period of personal struggle and introspection, the track blends intense, claustrophobic lyrics with electrifying live energy. Created during a long period of isolation and struggling with anxiety, Ward crafted Control alone in his bedroom studio, channelling inner turmoil into a pulsating anthem.
The accompanying music video, directed by Charles Buxton-Leslie, takes place in a massive, blue recreation of Nick’s bedroom. The video pays homage to Gregg Araki’s psychedelic production design from his Teenage Apocalypse Trilogy.
Nick Ward is currently on tour in the UK & Europe before he returns for his own Australian headline shows in October. The Australian tour kicks off at The Night Cat in Melbourne on Friday, 18 October 2024, followed by a stop at Brisbane’s Black Bear Lodge on Saturday, 19 October 2024, and concluding at Sydney’s iconic Oxford Art Factory on Friday, 25 October 2024. Nick is also confirmed to support Troye Sivan on his highly anticipated national Australia/New Zealand tour this November. All dates and tickets can be found here.
Nick’s debut album, “House With The Blue Door,” is set for release on October 4 and available for pre-order now. Ward initially envisioned his debut album, completed just before his 22nd birthday, as a kind of blurred time capsule for his youth. After spending an afternoon at a Sydney exhibition of Hilma af Klint’s “The Ten Largest” (1907) paintings, Nick Ward had the idea to create an album about childhood and the lingering emotions of the past.

WATCH PRELUDE TO ECSTASY THE FILM TRAILER HERE
To sum up the impact The Last Dinner Party have had, or simply to try and summarise the highlights of their last twelve months would inevitably be doing the band an injustice. With sell out tours across the globe, chart-bothering singles, a fastest-selling number one album by a debuting band for years, a Rising Star BRIT Award, BBC Sound of 2024 winners, reams of acclaim and now an inclusion on the Mercury Prize – Albums of the Year shortlist: you’d be hard pushed to liken it to any new artist introducing themselves within the last decade, perhaps further beyond. The wildest of rides.
But amongst all the deafening noise stand five smart young musicians trying to ignore what they cannot control and instead leave a permanent impression out on the stages they’d always dreamed of performing on. A mesmerising, captivating live act, The Last Dinner Party started this journey honing their craft on the basement stages of London’s grassroots venues and have been telling their story to bigger capacity rooms across the UK, Europe and the US ever since.
Having commenced the summer with a spree of stellar festival appearances including Radio 1 Big Weekend, Primavera Sound, TRNSMT and a scene-stealing return to Glastonbury, The Last Dinner Party have now wrapped their debut run of shows in bassist Georgia’s home country of Australia and an appearance at Japan’s Fuji Rock Festival, before the band complete a collection of sold out dates on both sides of the Atlantic: culminating in 3 nights at London’s Eventim Apollo.

RYLAND MORANZ ‘When I’m Gone’ (Single/Video)
Alberta-based singer-songwriter Ryland Moranz shares his new single/video ‘When I’m Gone’ out now on all digital streaming platforms via Tonic Records.
‘When I’m Gone’ is the lead single from Ryland’s new album Better/Worse, set for release later this year. Recorded by John Raham at Barnhouse Studios in Qualicum, BC, and produced by Leeroy Stagger, the easygoing folk-country track tackles dark subject matter with a positive attitude, encouraging us to live in the moment.
“‘When I’m Gone’ is my existential dread song, although it’s more optimistic than that may sound,” says Ryland. “When I wrote it I was thinking a lot about the world and our place in it and it occurred to me that most folks ride a binary opinion that’s either fate based or fate averse. But if you look out into nature, you see nothing is really like that. I wanted to write something that embraced the entropy of the human condition; something that showcased how, even if you’re not meant to be anywhere, where you are is where you’re meant to be, even if it’s just for a moment. Because nothing lasts forever, but nothing is truly forgotten, either.” STREAM HERE
The video for ‘When I’m Gone’ is a composite of 35mm projections from the silent film era using films that are in the public domain. The main films used are: Nosferatu, The Cabinet of DR Caligari, The Pawn Shop, Journey to the Moon, and Fantasmagorie.
Says Ryland: “The purpose of using these films was to support the song’s theme by creating a living and breathing estuary of real life and recorded memory. To showcase how all we have is the moment, but the moment is never just the now. It’s everything we’ve experienced up until now.”
A folk/bluegrass multi-instrumentalist and singer-songwriter from Lethbridge, Alberta, Ryland’s highly anticipated forthcoming album, Better/Worse,will be released through Tonic Records later this year. The album takes an earnest snapshot of a world emerging from the brink, or rather, from one brink to another. A spiritual successor to Ryland’s acclaimed 2021 offering XO, 1945, Better/Worse turns the focus from where we have been to where we may be going.
‘When I’m Gone’ is available now on Spotify, Apple Music/iTunes, and other digital retailers and streaming services worldwide.

ANNIE HAMILTON ‘On your Mind’ (Single) Stop and Smell the lightning (Album out Nov 1)
Eora/Sydney-based multi-disciplinary artist and fashion designer Annie Hamilton possesses a singular ability to capture the beating heart of an emotion and refract it through her own vivid musical prism, harnessing visceral, shimmering textures and wild, kinetic energy.
This week, multi-disciplinary artist Annie Hamilton announced the release of her highly anticipated new album, Stop And Smell The Lightning, set to drop on 1 November 2024. To mark the occasion, Hamilton has unveiled the album’s opening single, ‘On Your Mind,’ and announced AU/UK tour dates for Nov/Dec 2024.
Stop and Smell the Lightning offers a compelling exploration of emotional and sonic contrasts, seamlessly weaving a dynamic array of influences, styles, and sentiments. Shifting effortlessly between vibrant IDGAF exuberance and introspective delicacy, it skilfully blends energetic dance anthems with lush, ethereal dreamscapes and tender moments of vulnerability. Cinematic slow-burns and psychedelic whirlwinds punctuate the record, underscoring a nuanced process of self-reclamation and empowerment.
Out today is the album’s opening track ‘On Your Mind’, which follows on from Hamilton’s recent single ‘slut era’. Intimate and expansive, the song’s production, a collaboration between Hamilton and Jake Webb of Methyl Ethel, incorporates an array of unique sampled sounds, including the mesmerising calls of bats at twilight and the spontaneous energy of friends dancing outside a bar in the early morning. The track will be accompanied by a self-directed video (out later this week) featuring Annie wandering in a trance-like state through a handcrafted dream world, including a glowing green bat cave and a surrealist night sky. LISTEN
Hamilton describes the single as a musical invitation into the world of her upcoming album. “It’s meant to feel warm and fuzzy, sugar-coated and danceable, nostalgic and 90s-tinged”, she notes. “I wanted to create a moment that takes you by the hand and leads you into a dream.”

CAST – Centre for Arts, Sports and Technology Officially Launches
CAST (Centre for Arts, Sports and Technology), celebrates its launch today. CAST is a new organisation, platform and community for the “buyers” (traditional entertainment businesses) and “builders” (startups and scaleups) of entertainment innovation. The first organisation of its kind in Australia, CAST bridges the gap between arts, sport, and technology, leveraging deep entertainment industry knowledge, extensive networks, and proven success to establish itself as a national leader and global force in entertainment.
CAST’s mission is to drive sustainable growth and success by fostering collaboration between the technology sector and entertainment businesses, alongside a vision to drive a resilient and prosperous entertainment industry, driven by innovation and empowered by technology adoption. The organisation is led by Gav Parry, General Manager, and Ella Petite, Marketing & Memberships, who collectively hold around 25 years of experience across the music, entertainment and tech startup sectors having worked across Mushroom Group, Surreal, Positive Feedback, Innovation Bay and Entain/Ennovate.
“For over a decade, I’ve witnessed the power of collaboration firsthand,” says Parry. “In music, it fuels the rise of artists and projects. Seeing this dynamic in startups, I recognised the need for change in entertainment. While leading Entain’s Australian innovation strategy, I saw many startups struggle to connect with corporations. It became pretty obvious without a bridge between the industry and innovators, the industry was going to be left behind.” he states.
The entertainment industry has faced some of its toughest years ever. Changing consumer behaviours, cost of living, and inflationary pressure are pushing the live entertainment sector to adapt or risk obsolescence. Since the COVID pandemic, 1300+ venues have closed, nightclub numbers have nearly halved and in the last 12 months some of our most iconic festivals have been cancelled (Splendour in the Grass, Groovin’ the Moo, Falls Festival), with Bluesfest announcing recently that their final festival will be next year.
“We were part of the recent Parliamentary Inquiry into the Live Music Industry and what stood out is that there’s very little new money and new ideas coming into the sector.” states Parry. “The answer can’t be moving around existing industry spend, it needs to be about new ideas, new experiences and new investment”
Though there’s always been a strong desire for innovation – venues, festivals, and stadiums operate in isolation from the tech sector, while entertainment tech startups often struggle to connect with industry networks. Innovation requires collaboration and without visibility and connection between the builders and buyers, evolution of an industry can be very difficult.
CAST’s lean but mighty team is supported by an Advisory Board who bring diverse experience, deep knowledge, and strong networks across the arts, sport, tech, and entertainment industries: Brad Moran, CitrusAd Founder and ex-AFL player; Joel Edmondson, CEO of Venue Management Association, ex-CEO of QMusic and QMF; Nic Kelly, Executive Director QLD Gov. with experience in Innovation, Sports, Technology, and Events, and Allen Smith, Co-founder and CIO DMCG Recruiting.
CAST aims to foster collaboration through a membership community specifically designed for startups and scaleups within the “entertainment” and “fantech” space. CAST will act as a home base for companies building products that enhance fan experience, improve efficiencies for entities (venues, festivals, infrastructure providers), or that support artists, musicians, and athletes. Startups and scaleups building in the entertainment and fantech space are invited to create a free profile via the CAST website for first chance access to showcase opportunities, visibility to the sector, and a growing community of passionate founders.
“Similar to the way triple j Unearthed works, our community showcases startups across the entertainment spectrum through publicly viewable profiles. The biggest barrier to innovation is discovering products and platforms that can support growth,” says Parry. These profiles will empower the industry to discover solutions that enhance fan experiences, improve business operations, and unlock new revenue streams. “Our focus with the community,” says Parry, “is about making entertainment and fantech innovation more visible.”
CAST will also cultivate connections hosting in-person, quarterly “Future Of” events. The inaugural event, held in May this year, focused on The Future of Venues in collaboration with Entain Venues. Seven startups and scaleups presented to over 500 venues, resulting in a $10,000 award for Sunflower AI (live captioning platform) and sales support for Wirely (financial management system) across Entain’s 2,000+ venues. “The showcase was an incredible way to get Wirely in front of key buyers in a new way,” says Wirely Founding Member Simon Etchells. “ Six months down the track we’re still getting interest from venues who saw us at the showcase.”
Adding momentum to its launch, CAST has announced a Meetup at SXSW Sydney this October. The Future of Events, is a collaborative meet up between CAST and Michael Brown, VP of Innovation at SXSW. The event will bring together industry leaders – from founders, tech providers, event organisers, and promoters – to drive awareness of emerging technologies and connect founders with decision-makers who can empower their adoption. Founders who create their profile via CAST between now and the 17 September deadline, will be considered to showcase their business and products at the Future of Events Meetup this October at SXSW Sydney.
With the Australian entertainment landscape poised for significant growth, particularly in Queensland with the 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games, CAST is establishing itself as a vital resource for the future. By fostering innovation and collaboration, CAST aims to ensure a thriving entertainment industry for fans, creators, and businesses alike.
