GRETA STANLEY ‘Greatest Hit’ (Single)
Ahead of the release of her third album, If I Get In, Where Would I Go?, the multi-talented Greta Stanley shows off more of the record’s charm with new single, ‘Greatest Hit’. An infectious slice of pop music that represents Stanley’s natural talents as a songwriter, ‘Greatest Hit’ navigates a central theme of relationships; both with someone else, as well as with oneself. A song about self-love and the importance of prioritising your health and happiness in all its forms, ‘Greatest Hit’ is a dynamic track that speaks to the broader narrative of Stanley’s forthcoming album project.
Produced, recorded and mixed by Cheekbone at his studio in Townsville, ‘Greatest Hit’ received final mastering by Andrei Eremin (G Flip, Baker Boy). Says Stanley of the track, initial inspiration came from listening to artists including Petey and Medium Build.
“This song kind of has a double meaning, it’s about knowing that you have a lot to offer someone, and you finally found someone who doesn’t take that for granted, but it’s also a song to myself, about self love, and really working on the relationship you have with yourself. How, when you overcome these challenging things that keep you down, you could really show up for yourself; you could write that song, you could be that person that talks you up instead of down. It’s about the half of you that gets hidden when you get too deep in the dark shit in your brain, and when you work really hard (therapy, breaking habits, whatever!) you get to see this version of yourself you know you could be, and you know is someone you don’t want to keep hidden all the time.” GRETA STANLEY
To celebrate the release of If I Get In, Where Would I Go?, Greta will be performing a special hometown show in Cairns on Friday 27 September.

THE DARKNESS ‘The Longest Kiss’ (Single) ‘Dreams On Toast’ (Album out March 28, 2025)
Legends of rock, The Darkness, have returned to bedazzle and amaze once more as they serve up their eighth studio album Dreams On Toast via Cooking Vinyl in March 2025. Pre-order the album now HERE.
“You know that thing when God’s breath tickles your soul and tells you to create? Yeah, makes me giggle too. But you can’t resist,” comments frontman Justin Hawkins. “God might not be the power she once was, but say what you like about her, she knows damn well that what the world needs now, is rock sweet rock. And who are we, mere mortals of extraordinary ability, to argue with the divine?
“So we knuckled down and thought really hard about the best of the best, the elite songs, the life-changing music of the ages. Then we popped out a dozen bangers before lunch. And these bangers we present to you here, wallowing in an aromatic aural ragu, served atop the charred remains of our envious contemporaries… ladies and gentlemen, I give you Dreams On Toast!”
A lavish display of sonic delicacies, Dreams On Toast is a dynamic dish packed full of sure-to-be hits. This is no better demonstrated than with lead single ‘The Longest Kiss’ out today (September 18th). An upbeat pop classic which tips its hat to the ’70s pop genius of both Queen and Paul McCartney, it finds The Darkness dance across jaunty piano keys and frolicking guitar licks in irresistible top form.
Listen to ‘The Longest Kiss’ HERE
Justin explains, “Misty Orchards! That’s not my porn name, that’s the kind of scenery that I love. I awakened to such a vista in the delightful Scottish highland town of Nairn on the morning that inspiration for ‘The Longest Kiss’ lyric struck. I was bleary eyed and locked in an unending embrace with my (mid)life partner. Weird that I can still sing, but that’s a testament to the resilience of humans, especially lead singers.
Not only will Dreams On Toast feature arguably their best collection of songs yet, but The Darkness will also be hitting the road next March for their largest headline tour of the UK in years, solidifying their status as one of Britain, and indeed the world’s, most important rock bands. GRACE VANDERWAAL ‘What’s Left of Me’ (Single)
Grace VanderWaal brings her emotions to the forefront with her dynamic single, ‘What’s Left of Me’ out now via Pulse Music.
‘What’s Left of Me’ comes out roughly a month after Grace made her big return to music with the single, ‘Call It What You Want’. The track starts off as a piano ballad before quickly turning into an upbeat song with lyrics that still tug at one’s heart. While ‘Call It What You Want’ sees Grace negotiating what to make of a situationship, ‘What’s Left of Me’ sees Grace on the other side of it realising the parts of her that have been forever changed by it even though it’s come to a close.
“What’s Left Of Me’ is a track about feeling as though you’re a breathing legacy of a fallen relationship. Everything about me is in some way directly or indirectly caused by you. An in-escapable touch, acid burned kiss, I’ll never be the girl I was before. It’s a robbery of identity,” Grace says about the single. In the music video, Grace Vanderwaal stuns as she sings into the camera, displaying every raw emotion that is conveyed in the lyrics of the song. For her iconic outfits, Grace takes a page out of the books of the Medieval and Renaissance era by adorning herself with a luxurious red corset before transforming into a full-on knight in shining armor with the chainmail to match that pays tribute to Joan of Arc.
‘What’s Left Of Me’ reminds listeners of the exciting year that Grace has left in addition to future endeavors which include an upcoming album. Grace’s long-awaited return to the industry has been one that has been anticipated by fans and industry professionals alike. With the release of her new movie, Francis Ford Coppola’s film ‘Megalopolis’ hitting theaters on 27th September and the steady stream of new music incoming, Grace truly is gearing up for an exciting time.

WORLD’S BEST NEIGHBOURS ‘Disappoint You’ (Single)
Born from the moody and often hilarious synergy between Melbourne’s own Henry Williams and Dom Buckham, World’s Best Neighbours channel a shared passion for melody, groove, and sardonic storytelling into a sound that merges dark, catchy indie rock with echoes of ’90s Brit Pop and an uncertain future.
Melbourne/Naarm’s breakout dark indie-pop derelicts, World’s Best Neighbours today share hypnotically eerie single “Disappoint You”. The moody track arrives alongside an animated music video that is as equally sad as it is hilarious.
Unfurling like a distant echo drifting through a shimmering mirage, “Disappoint You” is a grand mixture of entrancing guitars, droning piano, trip-hop drums and powerful melancholy vocals. The track transforms the familiar and nostalgic sounds of the ‘90s and ‘00s into something excitingly strange and original.
World’s Best Neighbours often explore the darker complexities of mental health and masculinity with a tinge of self-deprecation and absurdity. “Disappoint You”, is a grandiose and somewhat seductive ode that delves into the overwhelming feelings of being a failure.
World’s Best Neighbours – “Disappoint You” (Official Video)
The accompanying music video, created by the talented illustrator/animator Ken Keiso, is an animated gem that takes its cue from painfully funny series like Bob’s Burgers, The Big Lez Show and The Simpsons. The clip is a montage of everyday people in disappointing situations: a proposal at a Maccas, your hero letting you down at a meet-and-greet and a band playing to an empty room. Keiso brilliantly captures the absurdity, stupidity and sadness of everyday life.
Off the back of this exciting release, World’s Best Neighbours will headline The Retreat in Brunswick, Melbourne on Friday 18 October. With a slew of new music on the horizon, catch a taste of what is to come!

JIMMY BARNES – ‘Highways and Byways’ (Book released October 16)
From larger-than-life adventures to vivid and poignant tales of the imagination, no one tells a story quite like Jimmy Barnes. Highways and Byways: Tall tales and short stories from the long way round is a new collection of stories from the award-winning author and musician, set to be released on Wednesday, 16 October 2024, taking readers on another enthralling tour (complete with the odd detour) through the raucous, well-lived life of one of this country’s most successful and beloved artists.
Told with Jimmy’s signature verve and flair, and richly coloured by his distinctive voice and wit, Highways and Byways sees him sharing a 1970s Texas stage with a dream line-up of US musicians; flirting with disaster in a Hawaiian high-rise; discovering a life-changing cassette tape; unearthing shattering family secrets in Glasgow; encountering charismatic and not-so-endearing superstars, ghosts of the recent and distant past, superfan traffic cops and shady salesmen; and confronting his own mortality – while pondering the more amusing effects of hospital medication.
Jimmy Barnes added, “I started writing in 2016 to share my story, and to make sense of things, and I can hardly believe I’m now publishing my sixth book. I’m still writing, still loving it, and am very grateful to all the readers who’ve gone on this journey with me. There are places from the past in my memory that keep revealing themselves to me, and each time they do I learn something new, grow and become a better human. It’s like pieces of a puzzle that shine a light on the dark times in my life. Highways and Byways is my new collection of short stories and is filled with memories, imagination and adventures and I hope you enjoy travelling the roads with me”
Charming, personal and poignant, Highways and Byways is a collection that celebrates Jimmy’s Scottish heritage, family, friends, music and the adventure of a grand life.
Highways and Byways: Tall tales and short stories from the long way round will be released by HarperCollins on 16 October 2024 – Format: CHB | RRP: $45.00 | ISBN: 9781460766729| eBook available | Audio edition: available early 2025.

CAMERON MacDONALD & THE PIECES FIT ‘When All Is Said And Done’ (Single)
Cameron MacDonald is a Melbourne-based songwriter who has found some form having discovered the right places to go looking for it. Recently, deftly assisted by The Pieces Fit, he has compiled a reflective, narrative driven collection of songs inspired by the people and landscapes encountered during a series of road trips into regional Australia in the aftermath of the Pandemic.
The new single, ‘When All Is Said And Done’, is at once a looking ahead and a looking back. Looking forward to more restful times, to long postponed endeavours, to an elusive grand final win! Reminiscing about days gone by and old acquaintances whilst welcoming and nurturing new family members. A cycle on repeat. STREAM HERE
“Cameron came along with a bunch of songs he’d written about things other people don’t write about – real things, adult things, the kind of things that play on your mind. If you just read the lyrics, you’d expect to hear them croaked out with the gruff old voice of experience – but instead he sings with a gentle, calming lilt, drawing you into his thoughtful, highly individual worldview. He may seem cynical at times, but I hear a kind of shrewd optimism in Cameron’s songs which made them a delight to work on”. – Lachlan Bryan
SALTWOUND ‘Severance’ (Single) ‘The temptation Of Pain’ (Debut album out November 1)
Sporting a hunger bordering on bloodlust, Saltwound uncompromisingly pursue progression at all costs. The Sacramento, CA band—Spencer Timmons [vocals], Shawn Williams [guitar], and Marty Delgado [bass]—deftly tame a chaotic hybrid of deathcore and metalcore with earthquaking grooves and insidious melodies, proudly dubbed “NORCAL VIOLENCE.”
Following their recent signing to SharpTone Records, Northern Californian deathcore juggernauts SALTWOUND have announced their long-awaited, debut full-length album, The Temptation Of Pain, will be released on November 1st.
SALTWOUND’s debut is a colossal beast, seething with furious brutality that roars to life with the most ferocious riffs metalcore fans will hear this year. Featuring tracks like the previously released single Hollow, The Temptation Of Pain rears its head with intense chaos as elements from deathcore and metalcore collide in a violent explosion of sound.
Commenting on the song’s message, vocalist Spencer Timmons says: “It’s my wish to separate myself from the world in a macro and micro sense. In my personal life and what I see going on, it’s nothing but pain, misery, and things I can’t stand. So, you want to be set free and separated from this darkness. I love music more than anything, but so much of this industry repulses me.”

FIXATION ‘Speak In Tongues’ (EP out Oct 11)
Shortly after their successful debut album, the award-winning metalcore band Fixation is ready to release new music with Speak in Tongues – a conceptual mini-album exploring themes of belonging, identity, and power. Across eight tracks, the band from Norway takes listeners on a musical journey where thought-provoking lyrics and a complex soundscape intertwine.
Revisit the singles from Speak In Tongues
Tyrannical Miracle & Random Acts Of Violence
The album is both epic and experimental, drawing inspiration from films and TV series like Dune and Don’t Worry Darling, as well as artists like Aurora. Fixation introduces a refined yet hard-hitting expression, where the grand melodic vocals the band is known for are now mixed with intense screaming – a new dimension from vocalist Jonas Hansen.
“The album is about a person searching for meaning in a world that rejects them,” explains Hansen. “They find refuge in a cult, but quickly realize it’s no better than the society they felt excluded from. They decide to create their own cult but loses touch with themself in the process.” Hansen adds that the band has long been fascinated by cult movements and their psychological power. The album is filled with hidden hints and “Easter eggs” for attentive listeners.
Musically, Fixation has continued their evolution following their critically acclaimed debut album More Subtle Than Death from 2023. On Speak in Tongues, we hear a band that has refined its sound, experimented with vocal techniques, and integrated musical elements to create something unique. “We believe this is our best work to date,” says Hansen. “We’ve learned so much as songwriters and instrumentalists, and this time there were no compromises. We hope the world loves this as much as we do.”
Speak in Tongues is released on October 11 marking a new high point in what has already been a groundbreaking year for Fixation. The band received the Breakthrough of the Year award at the Norwegian Publishing Awards earlier this year, as well as a nomination for Song of the Year for the track Ignore the Disarray. These historic recognitions are notable, as no metal band had previously been nominated for or won these awards.

THE BEACHES ‘Jocelyn’ (Single)
Beloved Canadian alt-rockers The Beaches are back with a new single, “Jocelyn” (via AWAL). After a rollercoaster year following the release of their fan-favorite album, Blame My Ex, and a mega-successful run headlining their sold-out North American tour and opening for sapphic rock icon, girl in red, The Rolling Stones, and Greta Van Fleet, The Beaches turn to introspective musings on the undeniable fame and adoration that have surrounded them since. “Jocelyn” finds The Beaches at a more vulnerable place, questioning what it means to leap into stardom while remembering they are only human.
Lead singer, Jordan Miller, says of the track:
“Sothe inception of our new song“Jocelyn”is kind of a funny story. We wanted to write about the experience of feeling undeserving of all the reverence that was being thrown away after “Blame My Ex” did so well. All of us in the band are just a bunch of messy girls, and we felt strange about the way that some people were putting us on pedestals. Anyways, at some point during the session, our co-writer Lowell kept singing the name “Jocelyn”, so we decided to see if we had any fans who were named Jocelyn, and we found one! We kind of wrote it about this brilliant young woman, and about the experience we were going through, feeling uncomfortable and undeserving of Jocelyn’s adulation.”
Together, the band confronts their doubts through their signature alt-rock excellence. Eliza Enman-McDaniel’s addictive drum beat carries the track alongside Jordan Miller’s full, crooning vocals. Accompanied by guitarists Leandra Earl and Kylie Miller, the members of The Beaches use “Jocelyn” to share their disbelief at the admiration of their fans, singing ““So perplexing coming up, when my esteem was on the floor / I headlined at the Troubadour and wondered what they came here for / What do you even see in me, Jocelyn?”. The result is a track that reminds us of the vulnerable human nature of being an artist – regardless of public esteem and adoration – while simultaneously solidifying the band’s resounding impact and irresistible strength, as they continue to take over the alt-rock world.

GIA DARCY ‘Crash Test’ (EP)
With the release of her new EP Crash Test, Eora/Sydney performer and songwriter Gia Darcy repositions herself as an artist to watch in this current wave of pop dominance. Having teased the project with impressive singles, including ‘Nice Things’, ‘Next Life’ and ‘Make Me Wanna’, the Crash Test EP proves to be full of diverse influences and insights into Darcy’s exciting and evolved artistic palette.
The music, created across writing sessions in Los Angeles and then further developed and recorded in Eora/Sydney with collaborator Liam Quinn (Ruel, Keith Urban, Rita Ora, Peach PRC), is full of vivid musical textures. Thematically, Darcy explores themes of fresh relationships (‘Nice Things’, ‘Make Me Wanna’), and platonic love (‘Next Life’) with spirit and a natural charm. On Crash Test, Gia says;
“My EP, Crash Test, is the most personal body of work I’ve ever created, featuring five songs that each tell a different story from my life. Each song captures a unique emotion and moment. One song deals with the grief of losing my grandma, while another is about the pure joy and love I have for my best friend. Two tracks dive into the anxiety and excitement of starting a new relationship, despite all the fears and uncertainties. The final song is about feeling broken after a relationship ended and questioning why someone would choose to hurt and use me like that…
Musically, Crash Test blends pop, indie, and singer-songwriter vibes, reflecting the variety of emotions and stories in the EP. Each song is designed to evoke a specific mood and take listeners on a journey through my personal experiences, hoping to resonate with anyone who’s faced similar highs and lows in their own lives.” GIA DARCY

THREATS “Hurricane’ (Single)
Based in nipaluna/Hobart, Threats combine dizzying drums, primitive riffs rendered at hyper-speed, and words of introspection, subversion and gardening into a cathartic maelstrom of fun. Dancing around a bonfire of hardcore punk since 2019, the four friends throw in scraps of thrash and noise/electronics to singe some eyebrows.
Fresh from supporting Australian heavy music royalty Mindsnare on their first voyage across the Bass Strait in 20 years, nipaluna/Hobart horticulturally-tinged hardcore heroes Threats have shared the first single from their soon to be released second album.
On ‘Hurricane’, Threats are in full flight as the cathartic maelstrom music lovers from all corners of lutruwita/Tasmania have come to hold close to their hearts. Anchored buoyantly by Kane Parsell’s supple bass and Matt Cocks’ thunderous percussion, Bek Binnie’s guttural roar and Dale Evans’ churning guitar bluster tumultuously as Binnie declares “I will bite”. Throughout ‘Hurricane’, Threats provide chances to step back from the turbulence; lulls in the squall allowing space to recover until the next cresting wave of anguish rolls through.
‘Hurricane’ arrives paired with an enthralling video produced by nipaluna/Hobart gothic icon Black Paul (delivered to the band rural spy-ops style via a chook feed silo), and the much-anticipated news that Threats are ready to share their second album, Backward Alchemy, due out independently on November 15th and available to pre-order now.

LITTLE QUIRKS ‘Red Shoes (Single/Video) Self-titled album (Out Friday Sep 20)
Rising Central Coast band Little Quirks will release their much-anticipated self-titled debut album tomorrow via ABC Music.
Showcasing their explosive live energy; prepare to dance, smile and get misty about life’s bittersweet moments in equal measures while listening to this record. Their sound is reminiscent of mid-00’s bands like First Aid Kit, Of Monsters and Men, Mumford & Sons with soaring choruses that are perfect for mass sing-a-longs.
Comprising sisters Abbey (vocals/guitar) and Mia Toole (drums/BVs) alongside their cousin Jaymi (vocals/mandolin), Little Quirks also share some deeply personal lived experiences on this album.
“As well as the classic, Little Quirks escapism, this record contains a lot of relatable stories: love songs, breakup stories and songs about new experiences from more recent times,” Abbey details. “The most fun part about writing songs in your twenties is that things change drastically from year to year; you just have so much thrown at you, so there’s always plenty to write about. From a couple of years ago – when we started writing this album – to now, I’m certainly not the same.”
The album was mostly recorded in The Garden – a small studio their father Adam built in their backyard – as well as The Grove Studios, owned by Australian record producer Scott Horscroft (Ocean Alley, DMA’s, Skeggs, Dune Rats, Vera Blue, Birds of Tokyo)
Early ‘Little Quirks’ songwriting sessions produced the Abbey-penned focus track Red Shoes (“that was my love-song era”). Abbey drew sonic inspiration for this one from Creep by Radiohead, a song she adores: “I wanted Red Shoes to have the oomph of Creep, but still have these very sweet lyrics. It’s probably the most classic love song that I’ve ever written, but it’s got a quirky twist – the concept of these missing red shoes.” Mia adds: “It’s got quite a ‘50s feel to it.”
Today they share the accompanying video for ‘Red Shoes’, filmed in a school hall and shot and edited by Abbey & Mia’s dad Adam.
On the clip, “We had the idea of a ‘post show’ look on a dark stage that we could rock out and give glimpses into our live show. It is a very lyric driven video that conveys a lot of raw emotion which really captures the essence of ‘Red Shoes’. There is a glow effect across the whole video which gave it a dreamy, different look to our usual videos. We had so much fun capturing Red shoes and tapping into the edgier/rock element of Little Quirks.”
WATCH CLIP FOR ‘RED SHOES’ HERE
Little Quirks album includes previous releases ‘Storm Like Me’, ‘Reverie’, ‘The Ones That Dance’, ‘Caught in June’ which have seen support from triple j Home & Hosed, triple j Unearthed, Rebel FM, Frankie Mag, Rolling Stone Best New Music, AU Review, The Music, plus added to ‘RADAR – Global’ playlist on Spotify as an Australian “artist to watch”
Already well-renowned the world over for their lively shows, Little Quirks have been touring relentlessly, including performances at The Great Escape (Brighton, UK), SXSW (Austin, Texas) and Bluesfest 2024 amongst their career highlights to date. This October they will be heading out on a massive 14-date national tour to celebrate the release of their debut album.
This peak gig-fitness clearly translated in the studio, with Little Quirks documenting the band’s impressive growth. Vocalist Abbey comments, “the goal was to transport listeners to “a really polished show” – safe to say mission accomplished.
Spirited and uplifting yet also incredibly heartfelt and real, Little Quirks’ debut self-titled LP captures the essence of life itself. Press pause on your woes and surrender to the healing, perspective-shifting power of Little Quirks.

Formed by brothers Jordy, Finn, and Jonty, the trio’s dynamic stage presence and introspective lyricism have propelled them from their grassroots beginnings in Australia to international recognition. Signed to UTA, Selfish Sons have supported major artists like The Jonas Brothers, The Driver Era, and MAY-A, while building a growing fanbase through sold-out headline shows and viral social media presence. With a sophomore EP on the horizon and major tours lined up, 2024 is shaping up to be the band’s biggest year yet.
Alt-rock trio Selfish Sons are back with their brand-new single, Revolver, OUT NOW following a first play on triple j’s Home & Hosed. Following sold-out headline tours across Australia, Revolver marks the latest step in their meteoric rise as they prepare to embark on a US tour supporting Lil Wayne and The Kid Laroi.
“Revolver is a song that digs deep into the emotional turmoil of losing yourself in a toxic relationship, only to reclaim your identity with newfound strength. “It’s so easy to adopt a different identity to please someone you love and think loves you back. But when I realised I gave up the best parts of myself for someone with the wrong intentions, I knew I had to face the harsh realities and empower myself again,” says lead vocalist Jordy.
The single was mixed by Grammy award-winning producer Mark Rankin (Harry Styles, Adele, Queens of The Stone Age), adding to the anticipation surrounding the release. As the band’s sound continues to evolve, Revolver is poised to resonate with fans old and new, offering a raw, cathartic anthem for those who’ve navigated the complexities of self-worth and toxic love.
Selfish Sons have spent the last few years building a loyal following both at home and abroad. With their grassroots approach and powerful live performances, the band—comprised of brothers Jordy, Finn, and Jonty—have supported the likes of The Jonas Brothers, The Driver Era, Pale Waves, and MAY-A, and garnered major attention on platforms like TikTok, where they’ve amassed over 100k followers and 2.4 million likes. Their music has also earned support from triple j and iHeart Radio, further cementing their place as one of Australia’s standout acts in 2024.

Their relentless energy and growing list of achievements signal that this Brisbane-born trio is well on their way to global stardom.
THE LAST MARTYR – ‘Requiem’ (Single) ‘Requiem’ (EP out October 23)
Naarm/Melbourne-based metal band The Last Martyr have followed up the announcement of their EP and release of the title track, ‘Requiem’ featuring Alt.’s Daniel Cullen-Richards, with a visceral music video directed by Andrew Vaughan (Windwaker, Days Like These).
Pre-Order EP HERE / Pre-Save EP HERE
Designed and built within Fabrik Studios, the nature-themed DIY set features flowers, grass and a mound of Earth crafted from dirt and turf, symbolising humankind’s fragile connection to nature. The once-vibrant set is soon ravaged, acting as a stark commentary on humanity’s neglect of Mother Nature before a rogue rose blooms from the land. The hazmat-suited character attempts to pick the rose before confronting an ominous fate, with fast cuts of the band’s performance amplifying the urgency and intensity of this portrayal of environmental destruction.
The Last Martyr talks about the inspiration behind ‘Requiem’:
“‘Requiem’ visually represents humankind’s relationship with the earth. There are two sets – Set #1 is a mound of grass and nature to represent the earth, and Set #2 is a swing set wrapped in vines representing the innocence of humankind. The video starts off lush and throughout the video, the scene is destroyed, burned and charred, covered in ash to show the lost innocence and humanity’s complete disregard for the environment through the poisoning of its land and the heavy adoption of harmful technology, furthering the disconnect. Nearing the end of the video a rogue black rose grows. As a character in a hazmat suit picks the strange flower up from the ground, it electrocutes him. This is the consequence of our actions.”
‘Requiem’ EP will be available worldwide on Wednesday, October 23

NAOMI KEYTE ‘Emmylou’ (Single) ‘Milk PaperGold’ (Album out Oct 31)
Australian singer-songwriter Naomi Keyte has unveiled her highly anticipated new single, “Emmylou”, a captivating blend of folk and country that explores the beauty of how introverts and extroverts magnetise towards one another.
Drawing inspiration from the legendary Emmylou Harris, Naomi’s latest release is a celebration of contrasts and a tribute to the ultimate femme folksinger. This song was recorded at the peaceful Resting Bell Studio in PointLonsdale, with the talented Nick Huggins and Ben Talbot-Dunn by her side. The trio worked together collaboratively in a beautiful, light-filled room by the ocean, allowing the song’s joyful and cheeky country flair to blossom.
The track stands out with its catchy piano riff, infectious energy, and under current of humour that has already resonated with audiences during live performances.
“This song was inspired by dating an introvert and relaxing into just how different people are,” Naomi shares. “There’s something in the adage opposites attract.’ We have a way of seeking to establish balance in our relationships, romantic and otherwise. The song references Emmylou Harris as she is the ultimate femme folk singer inspiration.”
“Emmylou” is the final single before the release of Naomi’s forthcoming album, Milk Paper Gold, a collection of nine songs written throughout 2021. The album reflects on the artist’s experiences during the pandemic, offering an open-ended exploration of life’s uncertainties in challenging times.
The tracks are infused with existential themes, yet they also radiate joy and contentment, showcasing Naomi’s unique ability to blend deep reflection with light-heartedness.
“This single, and the album as a whole, is about sitting in the discomfort of the unknown and questioning the future in uncertain times,” Naomi explains. “But there’s also a sense of humour and a country twang that makes this song stand out from my other work.”
Naomi’s journey as an artist has been marked by self-discovery and resilience, particularly with her recent ADHD diagnosis at the age of 37. “Like so many other female creatives, I was diagnosed with ADHD later in life. There’s something incredible about finally being given the key to unlock your mental health history” she reflects.
With its infectious melody, relatable themes, and the personal journey behind its creation, “Emmylou” is set to capture the hearts of folk and country music lovers alike. As Naomi gears up for the release of her full album, Milk Paper Gold, on October 31, this single offers a glimpse into the rich storytelling and emotional depth that defines her music.
Naomi Keyte’s new album Milk PaperGold will be released on October 31.
