THE SUPERJESUS ‘Something Good’ (Single)
The Superjesus are back and in trademark awesome rock form, with brand new single SOMETHING GOOD, out today – Stream HERE
The accompanying video will have its YouTube premiere tomorrow at 6am AEST – check it out here.
“Something Good was a song I had a while back that I was harvesting for my solo album, I played it to Ruddy and he saw TSJ potential …so yet again it got swiped for a higher purpose 😊 Ruddy took it to his studio and did a number on it, then it was unleashed on the band. It came up a treat! It’s super fun to play live as well ‘cause finally I have a song where I don’t have to play guitar. I thought lyrically it felt good for where we are at too.” Sarah McLeod
“It is such a great song, initially upon hearing the track, I couldn’t get it out of my head, and it was one of the demos we kept coming back to, and felt it had to be released, once again happily pushing our own boundaries.” Stu Rudd
The band is excited to hit the road for a number of key live dates in Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane, along with a bunch of full houses with the mighty Cold Chisel. See below for all details.

DAILY J ’Sunday Stitches’ (Single)
Auckland’s finest, Daily J, are back with another anthem, unveiling their latest single, ‘Sunday Stitches’. Following their last single, ‘Happy Slides’, this punchy track delves into the relatable aftermath of repetitive Saturday nights, capturing the emotional tug-of-war between succumbing to temporary relief and striving for a healthier lifestyle. LISTEN
Produced by Joe Faris, who also worked on their 2020 album Venus Ate Mars, ‘Sunday Stitches’ is a fast-paced track with catchy whistles that’ll have you singing along in no time, despite its underlying melancholic message. Reflecting on the song’s creation, the band shares, “Sunday Stitches is a light-hearted ode to oneself about lost nights. It has some emotive lyrics that suggest the feelings we all tend to have with ‘hangxiety’ and the Sunday Scaries. We don’t take life too seriously but like to write about what we’re going through.”
The accompanying music video, directed by Dylan Martin, perfectly encapsulates the track’s dual nature. Shot in the rural surroundings of Ohakune, New Zealand—a place close to the band’s roots—the video juxtaposes the happy and melancholic sides of the song, all while maintaining an organic and fun vibe. Filmed at an accelerated pace and later slowed down to match the track’s tempo, the video evokes a sludgy, blurred sensation reminiscent of a night out. As the band prepares to release more music from their upcoming album, they’re excited to see how ‘Sunday Stitches’ resonates with their audience. “We feel our music is all pretty relatable, and this song stays true to the Daily J ethos—writing about life and its experiences. We’re super excited to be working with Joe again and can’t wait to share what’s next,” says Jayden.
Daily J has been having a remarkable year, with their 2020 single ‘Left Me Like Summer’ recently achieving gold status in New Zealand. They’ve supported girl in red at Spark Arena and delivered a string of sold-out shows across New Zealand and the UK, including a standout performance at All Points East in London’s Victoria Park. As they continue to share their signature blend of indie-rock and indie-pop with audiences worldwide, there’s much more to come from Daily J.

GOD DETHRONED The Judas Paradox (Single/Video)
Iconic Holland based black/death metallers GOD DETHRONED shed light on a biblical chronicle with the title track and second single from their upcoming studio album The Judas Paradox which is set to be released on September 6, 2024 through Reigning Phoenix Music (RPM). The opening track of the album draws listeners into a perilous abyss filled with betrayal, presenting the narrative from Judas’ perspective. This gradually intensifying song weaves the apostle’s account of the historical events involving Jesus, who refutes the unfounded accusations against one of his nearest disciples, expressed through murmuring choral chants.
Watch the official ‘The Judas Paradox’ music video on YouTube:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PRsUePUuHz0
Listen to the track: https://goddethroned.rpm.link/judasPR
Vocalist/guitarist Henri “The Serpent King” Sattler explains, “The title track of the album! The song talks about Judas Iscariot, who speaks about the events surrounding the betrayal of Jesus Christ from his point of view. It’s a topic that holds the world in its grip since the story became public knowledge. Musically it’s the most atmospheric and melody driven song on the album.”
The Judas Paradox can be pre-ordered physically and digitally (incl. two instant-grat tracks, ‘The Judas Paradox’ and ‘Rat Kingdom’), and pre-saved on your preferred digital service provider (DSP) here: https://goddethroned.rpm.link/judasparadoxPR
The Judas Paradox was produced by the band themselves, with mixing being handled by their very own singer/guitarist Henri. Tony Lindgren, who previously worked with scene greats such as OPETH, AMORPHIS, ENSLAVED, KATATONIA, KREATOR and SEPULTURA, took over mastering duties at Fascination Street Studios, rounding off the grandly sinister sound of “The Judas Paradox.”

NEOMANTRA Astral Prison’ (Single)
Uncaged and stepping out from the smoke, post/doom-metal band Neomantra are raising a little hell, announcing their upcoming EP and letting the ravenous have a taste of it with their new single ‘Astral Prison’ (out now). Listen to ‘Astral Prison’
With Royce Zanetic on vocals and guitar, Jarod Callow on guitar, Lee Afentopoulos on bass, and Greg Turner on drums, this 4-piece post-metal powerhouse bring weighted philosophical exploration with their crushing soundscapes.
After making their first appearance in 2021 with their profound 5-track EP, ‘Henosis’, Neomantra have carved themselves a name for producing a magnificent cacophony of heavy and haunting tunes. Their raw and visceral sound has caught the ears of outlets such as Hysteria, Wall Of Sound, Noise Mag, and The Faction among many others, and supported both KARNIVOOL and Tangled Thoughts Of Leaving in late 2023.
Now, mixing heavy doomsday guitar, primal vocals, animalistic drums, and raw emotion, Neomantra’s single ‘Astral Prison’ is unapologetic and deliciously rough. With dark chords and hardcore screaming, this is an out-of-body experience compacted into a song that loops flawlessly, with a cyclical, abstract nature to it.
This single is a sliver of their upcoming long-awaited EP ‘Paranosis’ produced & engineered by Chad Blondel (Foxhole Recording Studios) and mastered by Forrester Savell, with additional creative inputs from Drew Goddard (KARNIVOOL). The five-track EP delves into the psyche of the band that acts as the counterpart and closing of the circle that was ‘Henosis’.
The EP, available on Friday, September 27, will be celebrated at The Rosemount Hotel, North Perth on Friday 11th October, with more shows to be announced in the future.
Get lost in a mental maze with Neomantra’s newest single ‘Astral Prison’ on Friday, August 30, ahead of the release of their EP ‘Paranosis’ on September 27.

MODERN ENGLISH ANNOUNCE FIRST-EVER AUSTRALIA & NZ TOUR
MODERN ENGLISH, the English post-punk band signed to 4AD in 1980 and responsible for the worldwide early ’80s hit “I Melt With You”, are set to embark on their first ever tour of Australia and NZ in October as special guests of the Buzzcocks.
Modern English were just the second act signed to the legendary label 4AD and contemporaries of the likes of the Cocteau Twins and Dead Can Dance. They were early instigators in the much-loved 4AD musical collective This Mortal Coil helmed by label head Ivo Watts-Russell, and they were the act through which their close friend Vaughan Oliver became the label’s inhouse artist and creator of the iconic 4AD visual style. Somewhat conversely, Modern English are also the band responsible for the international 1983 hit “I Melt with You”, as famously and prominently featured in the early Nicholas Cage film Valley Girl. “I Melt With You” ranks among the top 500 songs ever played on U.S. radio, and is ranked #39 on VH1’s 100 Greatest Songs of the 80s.
Having maintained its core line-up since 1979, Modern English are not only loved as early ’80s hitmakers, they have become widely respected as post-punk innovators, thanks to younger generations discovering their catalogue and new artists citing the band as an influence. Appearing as special guests of the Buzzcocks (with whom they have previously toured in Europe and the States), the band’s first Aus/NZ tour will follow the acclaimed early 2024 release of their latest album 1 2 3 4, which received raves internationally in the likes of Rolling Stone, Uncut, Spin and Mojo, who said of the album, “The cold clang of post-punk guitars and synths sounds very ‘now’, but the veteran band brings a depth and worldliness to these songs that sets them apart.”

OCEANS ‘Spit’(Single/Video)
Germany’s Nu Death powerhouse OCEANS are back with unprecedented ferocity since their debut EP in 2018. Brace yourself for their third album HAPPY, a colossal juggernaut that once again showcases the band’s ability to seamlessly fuse Nu Metal, Death Metal and Post Rock into their own signature sound. The days of subtle introversion seem to be over. As the world faces one crisis after another, OCEANS are channeling their frustration at the state of the world into a bold statement against the influence of social media on society, while staying true to their mission of promoting mental health awareness. This band has never sounded as angry as they do now, and these 11 songs are impressive proof of how well that emotion suits them. Surely this is also what convinced Australia’s finest, keyboardist MISSTIQ and Josh Collard from EARTH CALLER, to take part as feature artists on two tracks. OCEANS ’previous album Hell Is Where The Heart Is put the band on the road with international acts like BLIND CHANNEL in 2022, as well as supporting ANNISOKAY in 2024. It’s safe to say that HAPPY will ignite massive mosh pits on their upcoming extensive European tour with SEPTICFLESH in October 2024.
OCEANS release their latest single ‘Spit’ as part of their third studio album. Just under a month before the release of their new long-player HAPPY, the German nu-metallers give a further impression of what kind of force can be expected. The new single is accompanied by a music video that directly conveys the raw and gritty vibe that OCEANS is known for bringing to their fans when playing live.

GO AHEAD AND DIE Announce BETTER DEAD THAN MAINSTREAM: LIVE AT THE MARQUEE THEATER Released September 13th!
Arizona death-crusters GO AHEAD AND DIE are proud to announce their newest offering Better Dead Than Mainstream: Live At The Marquee Theater will be released digitally on September 13th via Nuclear Blast Records. The audio from the album was taken from their September 25, 2021 show with SOULFLY as well as INCITE and HEALING MAGIC. The night featured a performance of their debut self-titled album which was released two months prior. The audio for the live album was produced, engineered, and mastered by Arthur Rizk. For the album cover, the band enlisted Costin Chioreanu to create the artwork.
Max Cavalera states, “It’s amazing to me that the lockdown allowed Igor and myself the opportunity to make such a brutal record! That era gave us a clear view of harmful social issues as authoritarian rule was exploding in aggressive ways. This is a true live album, with no overdubs. It’s as brutal as the pandemic!”
Igor Amadeus Cavalera comments, “Playing live with GAAD is an absolute adrenaline rush. You can hear the unchained raw energy through every song on this recording.”

GO AHEAD AND DIE unleashed their caustic sophomore album Unhealthy Mechanisms last year via Nuclear Blast Records. A torrential whirlwind born from the livid minds of Igor Amadeus Cavalera (HEALING MAGIC) and Max Cavalera (SOULFLY, CAVALERA CONSPIRACY). The sophomore album is a fresh dive into the madness of society and the pollution that ravages our minds. Unhealthy Mechanisms was produced by Igor Amadeus Cavalera while John Aquilino handled the recording in his Platinum Underground Studio steeped in the mystic ambiance of the Superstition Mountains’ foothills. The mixing and mastering were once again handled by Arthur Rizk (CAVALERA, SOULFLY, TURNSTILE). For the artwork, the band enlisted Santiago Jaramillo of Triple Seis Design to create the unnerving design that fits with the album title. GO AHEAD AND DIE’s newest record is a testament to declining mental health around the world, and a reminder that we are not alone in our pain. The mind is lost. The fuse is lit. Time to set everything ablaze.

WINTERSUN ‘TIME II’ (Album)
12 Years following WINTERSUN’s TIME I, Finnish heavy metal quartet led by Jari Mäenpää have released their new album TIME II via Nuclear Blast Records.
Jari Mäenpää comments: “TIME II is an epic journey from light to darkness and back to light, exploring the universe and energy, contrasting dark stormy landscapes to calm and beautiful cherry blossom tree gardens with misty, snowy mountains that will leave you breathless. It has songs with furious speed of drums, guitars, and bass and beautiful melodic slower songs with a magical exotic influence. It has massive orchestrations and choirs spiced with ancient world instruments and glimmering synths. It has Jari’s soaring, clean singing contrasted with his aggressive style. It is a highly detailed and complex album where you will find new things with every listen.”

About WINTERSUN: Finally our patience will be rewarded when Finnish WINTERSUN’s Time II album is revealed to the world on August, 30th by Nuclear Blast. ‘It has been quite a journey’ admits mastermind Jari Mäenpää who has been working on his expansive Time project since early 2004.
Time II includes six epic tracks with individual stories. Yet the subjects are all linked and this red line gives it a conceptual feeling. Entering WINTERSUN’s universe, we are brought into the right mood with the eastern-influenced, atmospheric intro ‘Fields Of Snow’. The first real WINTERSUN track is the metallic brilliance of ‘The Way Of The Fire’, with fire representing the energy of stars as a source of life, which is also connected to time. In ‘One With The Shadows’ we experience the magic of an opulence of vocal harmonies, while orchestral arrangements loom up as ornamental move. Jari has a remarkable vision on the lyrics, ‘Now I think it is about regret. You are living in the shadows as long as you don’t turn regret into something positive to continue your life. In ‘Ominous Clouds’, clouds are gathering as the interlude journeys towards the next exploring adventure ‘Storm’.
This is the heaviest and darkest track on the album,’ explains Jari. ‘It even has influences from classical music, more precisely from Vivaldi’s ‘Four Seasons’, furious guitars and heavy drums prevail, while the tone remains chaotic.’ The last track, ‘Silver Leaves’, with an array of harmonious sounds, partly performed with traditional Chinese instruments like the ‘erhu’ (similar to the violin or fiddle). Ending on a positive note the song tells the story of finding a calm place and state of mind after the storm, being satisfied with your life and enjoying nature around you, as reflected by the cherry tree garden on the cover. The artwork was created by Cameron Gray, while the booklet was designed by Hungarian artist Gyula Havancsák (lyrics, credits & thanks pages) and Onni Wiljami Kinnunen (band photos pages).

NAILS ‘Every Bridge Burning’ (Album)
Revered purveyors of aggression NAILS have released their highly-anticipated, 4th full-length album, Every Bridge Burning, today with Nuclear Blast Records. Featuring 10 cut throat tracks like ‘Lacking The Ability To Process Empathy,’ ‘Give Me The Painkiller’ and ‘Imposing Will’, Every Bridge Burning is a blitzkrieg of seething anger and unrelenting intensity that NAILS has built their name upon for the last 15 years.
Commenting on the album, NAILS founder Todd Jones says: “This band was modelled after some of my favourite bands; the type of bands where, when they put out an album, you know what it’s going to sound like. it’s the delivery of the expectation.”
Every Bridge Burning was produced by Kurt Ballou at God City Studio and is adorned with aptly diabolic artwork by Jef Whitehead.

GEOFF GATES ‘This Goodbye’ (Single)
‘This Goodbye’ is the latest single from Geoff Gates’ album, ‘Willow & Rock’ (June 2024). Willow & Rock covers a range of musical styles: country, folk, rock, late-night singer-songwriter.
‘This Goodbye’ is the final track on the album and seems to draw on all of these genres. It is a song about loss, with the character facing up to what will likely be a final parting after many years together. STREAM HERE
The chorus signals the past and present with the lines: ‘The start of something new/though I never could have known/This goodbye’.
The instrumentation helps to convey the emotion of the theme – acoustic guitar, bass and drums are supported by piano accordion. Rich backing vocals help to build the chorus: Abby Smith, and Fleur Wiber (both significant artists in their own rights).
‘This Goodbye’ rounds out the album themes of memory, love and loss, and should be a song that many will relate to as they consider the depths of feeling that come when we lose someone close to us.
GEOFF GATES is a Sydney-based singer songwriter and author. He released his first album of original songs in 2021 (‘Melancholy Party’), with ‘Mining Town’ and ‘Connecting with You’ introducing Gates’ storytelling style. Geoff began recording a new album (‘Willow & Rock’) at the Shelter Studios in the Blue Mountains in the summer of 2022-2023. Twelve new songs blend several genres, including folk, rock, late-night singer songwriter, and alt country.
Willow & Rock includes Geoff on vocals, guitars and harmonica. Geoff is supported by a range of artists and musicians, primarily Gareth Richards (drums), Robbie Renu (bass) and Brad Christmas (keyboards). The album was engineered and co-produced by Rick Turnock and mastered by Don Bartley. Geoff’s songs have been played on ABC Country (“Grass Roots”), Fleurieu FM, 979 FM, Valley FM, Triple Z, Fraser Coast Community Radio, Northside Radio, 2SER (Dirt Music), 2RRR (Virtual Unreality), 3RRR (Banana Lounge), Connect FM and Capital Country Radio.

GREG WILLIAMS ‘Rock Song’ (Single)
“Rock Song”—the high-energy new single from Greg Williams—does what it says on the tin… it really is a rock song. This high-tempo, two-chord thrasher rocks right out of the blocks with a wigged out guitar solo and a snarling vocal. Imagine Iggy Pop fronting early Psychedelic Furs and you’re halfway there.
A rock song about rock songs and rock bands, it’s a celebration of energy and attitude that spits in the face of indifference and apathy. STREAM HERE
The third single from the album “Stone On Stone”, out on 30 September, “Rock Song” heralds the intent of the first solo album this century by Greg Williams, the singer-songwriter behind The Young Homebuyers, Play Loud, The Everys and Splurge.
The new album takes the timeless songwriting craft of Crowded House, The Go-Betweens and Oasis, and blends all that with a love letter to the raw sound of classic Australian rock music, featuring Ashley Naylor (Paul Kelly, The Church, The Stems, Even) and cemented by the punchy production of Kevin Shirley (Divinyls, Hoodoo Gurus, Silverchair, Cold Chisel), to announce his late arrival as a solo artist.
Greg has released a dozen albums on major and independent labels and toured nationally, with his catalogue spanning garage pop, folk pop, lo-fi singer-songwriter and Brit-pop flavoured indie rock.
MOJO magazine heard the ghost of Lennon in his expressive and emotionally direct voice, keen eye for pop treats and innate ability to meld melody and mood, while others heard echoes of Neil Finn, Grant McLennon and “Liam from Oasis with a brain”.
Reviewers in the USA and UK dug deeper… Beatle-esque, “The Bends” era Radiohead, classic early Oasis, the jangle of The Church and Teenage Fanclub. Greg is already working on a follow-up, again with Ashley Naylor, the acoustic guitar-driven album “Castaway”.
The music video premieres on 16/9. https://gregwilliams.bandcamp.com/

Titled after Dickerson’s latest single and named Rolling Stone’s “songs you need to know,” “Bones” delves into the hitmaker’s most meaningful relationships. It blends his signature country-pop sound with themes of late-night bonfires, old flames, and the often-overlooked importance of conversations over a cold beer. Through its five tracks, the project explores different facets of love.
The EP release follows Dickerson’s recent achievement of debuting at No. 2 on the UK Radio Country Airplay Charts with “Bones,” following the success of his “Good Day To Have A Great Tour” throughout the UK. ALICE ANDERSEN ‘Blue’ (EP)
Melbourne folk artist Alice Andersen to releases remaining three tracks from forthcoming the Blue EP. Alice Andersen returns to her roots with the release of her heartfelt folk EP, ‘Blue’. From the very first moment of this five track EP, Andersen’s velvety tone immediately grabs you, bringing to mind the likes of Neko Case, Feist or Jenny Mitchell. STREAM HERE
On the opener, ‘Blue’, she’s up close to your ear, letting you in on some deeply personal reflections about what it’s like to navigate love when life gets serious – when baggage and expectations build up, and it feels impossible to find common ground with a potential partner. Blue has an irresistible, meandering feel that makes you want to pack a bag, drive down the coast, and get away from all the hard stuff.
The theme of futile or complicated love runs through the whole collection, which traverses folk, country and jazz, but all woven together by the thread of Andersen’s smooth and warm vocal.
The songwriting across the EP is natural, heartfelt and beautiful, and the instrumentation throughout is simple yet lush. There’s thoughtful lead guitar playing and gorgeous strings in just the right places to highlight the emotion of the songs.
About Alice Andersen : Alice grew up singing from a young age – but it wasn’t until she was living in London that she realized that singing in a band was something she could do. After returning to Australia, she decided she wanted to sing her own stories. So, in 2017 she got started. By early 2020 Alice was planning her first album when the pandemic hit. Feeling stuck, she took a detour to write and develop a synth-pop single, ‘Dance with you’ – a gentle but uplifting track featuring jangly guitars and heart-thumping drums – all underpinned by her folk story-telling sensibility.
Now, in 2024, Alice is finishing off what she started, with the release of her first EP, ‘Blue’. Featuring five tracks written across five years, it’s a synthesis of pre and post pandemic life: detailing complicated love, loss and isolation.

FLOYD THURSBY ‘O Louisa’ (Single)
‘O Louisa’ is the latest single from Floyd Thursby’s new album ‘Every Day’s Another Dance’. The song is a homage to pioneering Australian feminist Louisa Lawson, publisher, journalist, poet and mother to renowned author Henry Lawson. STREAM HERE
Louisa Lawson was the proprietor and editor of multiple newspapers and journals in the 1880s and 1890s, championing issues such as federation and women’s rights.
A light-hearted but heartfelt love letter to a woman who was a highly influential voice in colonial New South Wales, ‘O Louisa’ is surely the only ode to Louisa Lawson featuring a tuba solo (thanks Dan Witton) and an idiosyncratic shoutout to the p-p-p-proprietor of the p-p-p-p-paper.
ABOUT FLOYD THURSBY: Australian folk singer Floyd Thursby has years of songs and stories to share, whether busking in the streets of Iran, playing in nursing homes, or performing for the Prime Minister of Vietnam. From singing French chanson with quartet La Mauvaise Réputation to spearheading the skiffle revival with Skiffle Party, Thursby is fascinated by all styles of music. His original songs cover the full spectrum of life, from the sweetest loves to the saddest losses, from grappling with anxiety to celebrating the opening of a roast chicken joint, or the simple pleasure of gazing at the stars.
Thursby has been booked to appear at festivals across Australia and internationally, including Cygnet Folk Festival (Tas), Majors Creek Folk Festival (NSW), Newstead Live Music Festival (Vic), West Australian Guitar Festival (WA), Yackandandah Folk Festival (Vic), Mount Roland Folk Festival (Tas), Brunswick Music Festival (Vic), Palm Creek Folk Festival (Qld), Mossvale Music Festival (Vic), Lymm Festival (UK) and Hay Glamping and Music Festival (Vietnam).

HENCE CONFETTI “Duress” (EP out Sept 6)
In this rare example of an isolation that spawned connection, experimental tentacles sent out by lead writer Rowland Hines (ex-Mish) allowed his farm-rooted drummer Golsby, uprooted guitarist Dwyer and newest member Russell on bass to pulse back their own tidal waves of loss and creation in parallel to his. From apogee to apex, burnt homes to new daughters, Hence Confetti’s brand of amity-as-therapy has produced a haunting and evocative EP.
“Duress”, set for release on September 6th, focuses on strengthening resilience through introspection. With an emphasis on embracing change for personal growth, for the benefit of family and future generations. A foreboding warning of a need for adaptability in a fast changing world while examining the dystopian consequences of unchecked technological advancement. Together we risk a loss of humanity in a cybernetic apocalypse. LISTEN & PRE-ORDER FROM HENCE CONFETTI HERE
BETTER LOVERS ‘Future Myopia ‘ (Single) Highly irresponsible’ (Album out Oct 25)
One of the year’s most highly-anticipated debut albums, Better Lovers’ Highly Irresponsible arrives October 25 via SharpTone Records, and in the lead-up, the band – comprised of Jordan Buckley, Goose Holyoak, Stephen Micciche, Greg Puciato, and Will Putney – has offered up a second preview with the release of Future Myopia.
“Not that all of them weren’t, but this one was a lot of fun to write,” Greg Puciato says of the explosive track. “The bass-centric part in the back half of the song is one of my favorite moments on the whole record. Shout out to big Mitch. Same with the riff that comes after it. There were a lotta fun pitches to hit/alley-oops to catch for me in this one. Chorus took me a minute so that was a nice puzzle to figure out too. It’s been a joy writing with these guys and having so much different stuff thrown at me.”
Better Lovers first previewed the new album news with the release of A White Horse Covered in Blood, a single Knotfest praised as “an auspicious start” that “sets the bar high for what’s to come” from the band. Consequence lauded the track’s ability to find “a satisfying sweet spot between thrash metal and hardcore,” while MetalSucks called its Eric Richter-directed video “loud, heavy, and incredibly fun.”
“Writing and recording our first full-length was slightly more surgical than the EP, but has a similar lack of restraint,” Jordan Buckley shared upon news of the album’s forthcoming release. “I got to wake up every day and watch the masters perfect their craft. It was a playground. Everything was funny. We were reading each other’s minds. Even creating our own language at some points. I didn’t know if I was watching my closest friends write music, or if I was watching music use us to exist.”
Producer and band member Will Putney added: “We’re so dialed in to exactly what we want to do, and our creative process is so in sync and natural that we rarely hit a wall when we work on music. My role is to capture the energy of the band the way it’s intended to sound: a band firing on all cylinders.”
Album pre-orders, including limited-edition vinyl variants and CD, as well as digital pre-saves, are available here.
Better Lovers will embark on their first North American tour in support of the album in November, while a UK tour launches in the new year, with openers Frontierer and Greyhaven joining the band for their January run.

OL’ SHEP ‘Ruffled Feathers’ (Single)
Ol’ Shep Dawg Hisself is a session harmonica player for Benoit (Australia). In addition to his session work he pens a blog Harmonica Riff Raff named after a radio show he used to produce and present on local community radio 3MDR.
How to follow up my first hit (well huge in Biddleonia) solo single Locomotive Weave, which uses a train rhythm as its basis? Well why not another ol’ timey harmonica piece – a fox chase. Although only loosely based on a fox chase, there’s no whoopin’ & hollerin’ (not a fan) and hounds aren’t chasing a fox. Ruffled Feathers sees chooks in their pen and run becoming a little unsettled. Why? Perhaps a fox or even a wayward, excited rooster? I suppose, all in all, it’s just a bit of fun and there’s a wee tribute to a few of my favourite harpists. I’ll let you guess. After playing the demo to my son, on a visit last summer he started whistling a somewhat similar phrase. I recorded him then and there and thus it finds its way on to the recording.
I’d bought a mini bass harp a year ago and thought it could be used, perhaps for a Benoit recording. Dave the most excellent producer/sound engineer could hear electric bass flavouring Ruffled Feathers on the first airing of the demo, not harmonica bass, but anyhoo I laid down a little riff or two on the pocket bass burger for his edification and approval. Again (like Locomotive Weave) it was produced, mixed and mastered at Fretwire Studio with skilful aplomb.
Dave’s attempt at the bass groove were unsuccessful so feelers were sent out for a bass man and Zach Grace, known in many circles as a chicken whisperer, stepped into the chook run and he’s walking bass smashed it (not the eggs). STREAM HERE
Ol’ Shep now resides in the scenic Bass Coast, South Gippsland, Victoria.
He exclusively plays Hohner Special 20’s.
Released September 5, 2024
Harmonica instrumental composed and performed by Ol’ Shep.
Whistling by Lachlan (Young’ un) Shep
Bass by Zach Grace
Recorded, mixed and mastered by Dave Miller @ Fret Wire Studio, Melbourne.
FUMING MOUTH ‘Metal On Metal’ (Single)
A fiery, resurrected rage barrels its way out of hell’s erupting chasms with blistering fury; Fuming Mouth has returned. Lead singer, guitarist, and founder Mark Whelan emerges triumphant after a life-threatening battle with Acute Myeloid Leukemia, rekindling the inferno of their music with Fuming Mouth’s second full-length album, Last Day of Sun.
Ah… fall is here in the USA. Leaves are changing colours, the aroma of pumpkin spice permeates the air, warm boots keep the cool crisp air at bay and the guttural sound of FUMING MOUTH’s savage new single, ‘Metal On Metal’, radiates your ears. Out now from Nuclear Blast Records, the revered New England band’s latest, seething track arrives just ahead of upcoming shows and festival appearances.
Describing the single, vocalist/guitarist Mark Whelan says: “Equally parts death metal and hardcore. Get to head banging and get to moshing.”
‘Metal On Metal’ was produced with Kurt Ballou (Full Of Hell, Code Orange, Nails) at GodCity Studios during the band’s Last Day of Sun recording session and is part of the critically acclaimed record’s concept of perseverance, survival and resurrection inspired by Whelan’s battle with Acute Myeloid Leukemia.

Originally released in 2007, Fear Of A Blank Planet is Porcupine Tree’s ninth studio album and both band and fans alike consider it to be a high point in their catalogue. Their biggest selling album at the time, it was the band’s first album to break into the Billboard Top 100 in the USA as well as charting significantly across Europe, earning them a Grammy nomination in the process. The album includes guest appearances from Robert Fripp (King Crimson) & Rush guitarist Alex Lifeson and featured in Rolling Stone Magazine’s Greatest Prog Albums Of All Time as well as being named Classic Rock’s Album of the Year in 2007.
A concept album inspired by the Bret Easton Ellis novel Lunar Park, Fear Of A Blank Planet’s lyrics address how the adolescent protagonist battles his terminal boredom and attention-deficit disorders with a regimen of prescription drugs, TV, computer gaming, mindless violence, empty sex, and self-harm.
Following the release of Fear Of A Blank Planet in 2007, Porcupine Tree solidified their reputation as one of the rock’s most celebrated bands with their 2009 release The Incident garnering critical acclaim and earning the band another Grammy nomination. After a significant hiatus while members moved on to other projects, 2022’s highly anticipated return with Closure/Continuation demonstrated the band’s unwavering commitment to pushing the boundaries of their sound.

MARKO HIETALA ‘Frankenstein’s Wife’ (Single)
Legendary musician Marko Hietala is back with a mesmerizing new single, ‘Frankenstein’s Wife,’ a tragic love song that blends dark humor with haunting melodies. Released today, this rock hymn is a journey into the gothic world of a mad scientist’s desperate attempt to reanimate the love of his life.
With its Tim Burton-like gothic qualities, ‘Frankenstein’s Wife’ is both eerie and enchanting. The song showcases Marko’s signature storytelling, combining a great guitar riff and haunting keyboards that build into a chorus you can’t help but sing along to.
Marko Hietala comments: “I like to write my romance mixed with insanity and splatter. What it tells about me is anyone’s guess, but it sure is a classic combo for legends. Hope you like the song too!”
Producer and guitarist Tuomas Wäinölä adds: “Production-wise ”Frank” includes some personal favourite moments catching the vibe of the great Alice Cooper albums “Trash” and “Hey Stoopid”. I love that theatrical arena rock sound with broad tempos, big guitar riffs and synths and some gang backing vocals.”
The music video, premiering alongside the single, brings this darkly romantic tale to life in a visually stunning way, adding layers of depth to an already unforgettable song. Watch the video here: https://youtu.be/kap3cktlis8

mxmtoon ‘the situation’ (Single) ’liminal space’ (Album out November 1st)
“How do you cope with life-altering change? Maybe you let yourself stew in the mess of emotions it elicits. Maybe you make an album about it called liminal space…” – mxmtoon
Today, acclaimed singer-songwriter mxmtoon announces her third studio album, liminal space, which will be released worldwide via AWAL on November 1st. The album sees mxmtoon further embracing her signature confessional songwriting that has earned her millions of listeners and devoted fans across the globe. Exploring themes like the uncertainty of growing up through a carefully-crafted indie-pop lens, liminal space is primed to be mxmtoon’s most introspective project thus far.
mxmtoon shares: “In the turmoil of the last two years since my second record, I’ve felt suspended in a transitory landscape that often at times felt endless. It’s easy to feel trapped in something you barely understand, and life has thrown an onslaught of questions towards me that I can only respond with, ‘I have no idea how to answer this.’ So, suspended in the unknown I wrote these songs. I tried to unravel how I’ve chosen to fulfill the roles I’ve been given in my own life, and at times how I’ve failed to keep up with them.
liminal space was also a chance for mxmtoon to work exclusively with an all-female team of producers, writers, engineers, and even in the wider creative visual process working with female photographers and designers including visual artist KangHee Kim For mxmtoon, having an all-female creative team made the process of reckoning with these decisions much more impactful. “‘liminal space’ is an album for people struggling to understand agency, who bathe in the bittersweet and lose themselves wandering in their own endless hallway with no ending.”
mxmtoon is also gifting fans with another new song ‘the situation’ which features vocals from Sarah Bonito of the critically acclaimed and beloved UK electro-indie-pop Kero Kero Bonito and cryalot. A reflective, existential track masqueraded as an upbeat pop anthem, the song is a clever commentary on feeling like you’re past your prime. Using tongue-in-cheek lyrics mixed with bouncy beats and acoustic strumming, ‘the situation’ showcases mxmtoon’s innate ability to craft a pop-driven earworm, regardless of subject matter.
“What is there to say… we get older, then we die, and there’s nothing you can do about it! A lot of the songs on this record deal directly with the concept of girlhood and the cycle of life. I was twenty-three when I wrote “the situation” and I feel like I grew up with this idea that my early twenties were gonna be the time of my life where I’m the hottest and most fun I’ll ever be,” reveals mxmtoon. “Society as a whole really pushes the narrative that women reach a peak and then slide down for the rest of their lives… and that’s just stupid. I always love to use some sarcasm in the mix when I’m writing songs that tend to be pretty emotionally raw though, and ‘the situation’ was the perfect opportunity to make fun of how dumb that is. Getting to work with Kero Kero Bonito on this song in particular was such a dream come true too. I’ve been listening to KKB since 2013, and Sarah’s vocals have been stuck in my head since Intro Bonito. Her contribution to the song was so perfect and fun, it really glosses up the song to be externally peppy when the whole thing is about dying! She’s amazing.”
Her first single from the forthcoming album ‘i hate texas‘ came out last month—a fiddle-laced track co-written with underscores—she shares a post-breakup escape fantasy whose lyrics slip from sweetly poetic (“I haven’t left my apartment in a real long time/I’m making friends with the stars at night”) to unapologetically blunt (‘i hate texas/But the exits have more room to run away from you’).
ABOUT mxmtoon:
Since she was 17-years-old, mxmtoon has made exquisitely catchy pop songs that capture the kind of complex and tender feelings we often keep hidden from the world. Over the years, the Oakland native and now Nashville-based artist’s unguarded self-expression has earned her a devoted global following, led to collaborations with the likes of Carly Rae Jepsen and Noah Kahan, and propelled her through an expansive career that’s also included hosting a podcast and authoring a graphic novel.
mxmtoon will play at WNYC and Friends Centennial Celebration’s upcoming Summer Stage event in Central Park on September 9th and will play Corona Capital in Mexico City later this year. Stay tuned for world tour dates to be announced soon.

FAN GIRL ‘Real Or Staged’ (EP)
Unruly Naarm / Melbourne rockers Fan Girl are excited to today reveal their anticipated EP real or staged to the world via AWAL Recordings! To celebrate, the band have dropped an accompanying tour diary-esque video for entrancing track “mid century”, which follows the energetic four-piece on the road as they play some of their biggest and best shows in preparation for the EP’s release.
STREAM REAL OR STAGED NOW!
“The last couple months have been the most incredible shows we have ever had. All around the country, with friends old and new, alongside some of the best bands this country has to offer. An absolute honour. This video is just a little slice of that, and everything in between. Join us on the road for 3 and a half minutes, and see you at a show soon.” say Fan Girl.
Lyrically, “mid century” is inspired by the idea that sometimes the only way to save the things that you love, is to burn them to the ground and see what grows from the ashes. In true Fan Girl form, the track features a hypnotic bass and drum combo cycling around a world of wiry guitars, floating synths and bombastic vocals.
“‘mid century’ was a slow burn, a song that evolved from a shitty iPhone voice memo drum loop, into a live staple, before eventually becoming the final puzzle piece that completed the EP. The brief was: dumb, explosive, yet cleverly considered. Over the top chaotic energy balanced with an understated steady groove. Something comfortable, familiar, and lived in, yet modern. Something Mid Century.” the band say.
“The song then began its intergalactic voyage to Oli Barton-Wood (Nilüfer Yanya, Shame, Do Nothing) in London, where he applied his astounding mixing abilities and general good taste, before being flown across town to Felix Davis (Porridge Radio, Folly Group, The Murder Capital) who mastered it flawlessly with his bare hands, all to bring it to you here today.”
The anticipated EP features five of the band’s favourite tracks that truly encapsulate the chaos that is Fan Girl. From the unsettling catchiness of most recent single, “eleveneleven”, the addictive energy of “little pig” and the sinister twists of “the last one”, real or staged showcases the innovation of Fan Girl and marks an exciting new chapter in the band’s career.
The EP is completed by a hypnotic mood piece, “away”, a song that takes the listener through a ruminating, numbing and contemplative aching, before spitting into a panic attack. “It’s a song about longing, depersonalisation, climate change and the fourth most livable city in the world.” say Fan Girl.
real or staged by Fan Girl is out now.

KEELAN MAK ‘Drift’ (Single) ‘Boy’s In Love’ (EP out Oct 30)
Keelan Mak, the magnetic voice captivating a generation with his heartfelt melodies and introspective lyrics, has returned with a brand-new track, self-described as queer smut in disguise – ‘Drift’ is out today via [PIAS] Australia.
Keelan comments on the writing process, “Late last year I took an instrumental idea to Vetta Borne and clearly we were both sexually frustrated that day to write this track. We didn’t want it to feel grotesque or too sexually obvious because sex is soft, beautiful, and deserving of a little indie pop drum beat, you know. Kim Petras already has the other vibe covered and I know my lane.”
He continues to deliver his refreshing take on pop, with the third single from his forthcoming EP, Boy’s In Love out Wednesday October 30, showcasing his vocal sensibility as he weaves together the highs and lows of life, offering his own experiences and observations through a queer lens.
The new instalment is a confident pivot from Mak’s previous woes; Boy’s In Love is an expression of sex, love, queerness, and youthful embrace.
Previous releases ‘Naked Eye’ and ‘Straight With Me’, which picked-up a first play on triple j’s Home & Hosed, has garnered support from triple j, added to triple j Unearthed and JOY, and spotlighted across Rolling Stone Best New Music & Song You Need To Know, Frankie Mag, Purple Sneakers, Pilerats and Check Check. Keelan has also received massive support from DSP editorial including Spotify’s GLOW Cover, Hits Different, New Music Friday, Pop’N’Fresh and Fresh Finds.
Keelan’s music provides an insight into his feelings, a sense of community and a sultry mixture of himself and the places in which he moves between. Energised by the art and fellow creators that make up his fast-paced and evolving metropolis, the twenty-six-year-old artist seamlessly blends raw emotion with a refreshing take on pop music.
“This body of work is really about feeling happy and myself for the first time. The earlier years of my career, I was told to sell a queer narrative and it never felt like me to do so. I was partly scared to be heavily queer in the public eye but I also just felt like it didn’t feel right to brand my work as “queer”. The EP is called “Boy’s In Love” and it really centres around my relationship with my own identity as well as the stories I’m telling in these songs. No heartbreak! Just some gay fun.”
Keelan will be performing as part of [PIAS] Australia’s Showcase at this year’s SXSW Sydney on October 18 at the Lord Gladstone Hotel.

This coincides with their biggest headline tour across New Zealand and Australia, cheekily named “How The Fark Are Ya? Tour”, which kicked off last week. This huge run of shows includes multiple theatres in major cities, and an epic, home-state performance at the 3,500 capacity Fremantle Arts Centre, supported by some of their favourite WA acts. They have also announced their first ever international tour, bringing their live show to the UK in November.
The catchy and upbeat single “Forget It”, premiered on triple j Drive Show with Tyrone Pynor and Abby Butler yesterday, was written by the duo and produced by acclaimed Chris Collins (Matt Corby, Royel Otis, Alex Lahey). “Forget It” is inspired by the early 2010s UK indie sound, with the drums punctuating the bright reams of guitar and synth tones together with Old Mervs’ signature and irresistibly catchy hook, making it another perfect gig sing-along at live shows.
Old Mervs have been on a rapid trajectory, evolving their sound since their humble beginnings and this next chapter of new music just gets better and better showcasing Old Mervs’ signature sound we have all grown to love with new production elements, making Old Mervs an act to watch and one fast on the rise.
Speaking about the single, Henry explains, “Forget It was a real treat to record and write. Love the groove of the song, it’s definitely a new groove for us and we love the difference in it. Most importantly we hope the people love it. It’s upbeat but has a bit of spirit towards the second half of the song and I love how it’s got both those elements in the one.”
Dave shares, “Forget It is probably the kind of song I’ve always wanted to write. It pretty much encapsulates the style of music that I listened to as a teenager when I started finding more and more guitar songs that I really started to like. There are production elements that are new for us in the track, one being the synth tones throughout the whole song. They are a highlight for me and really make the song what it is.”

“Forget It” is the second taste of new music from the duo this year, following the first drop “What You’ve Lost”, the chart-topping single, which was #1 triple j most played and garnered strong support across Spotify, Apple Music and Amazon with over 690K combined streams.
An unbreakable bond between lifelong mates, Dave and Henry grew up together on farms outside of Kojonup, a tiny town approximately three hours south of Perth, Western Australia. As high schoolers they cleared out a stable to use as a rehearsal space for their new band, named after one of Henry’s family farm working dogs. With Henry on drums and David on guitar and vocals, it was truly humble beginnings.
Old Mervs are considered one of the most exciting rock acts in Australia. Breakout singles “Cellphone” (2020), “Where I Go” (2022), and “Sweetheart” (2023) have been streamed in the millions; while their second EP, “Give It Up” (2023), debuted at #2 on the ARIA Australian Albums chart and has now garnered over 5.2 million streams; in January “Sweetheart” landed at #47 in the 2023 triple j Hottest 100 and the duo scored a nomination for Best New Artist at the 2024 Rolling Stone Awards.
The duo have supported huge international artists, including Liam Gallagher and The Wombats, as well as local heroes Spacey Jane and King Stingray. They also boast a dedicated fanbase of their own, having sold out multiple national tours and performed heroic appearances on premiere festival line-ups, including Splendour In The Grass, Groovin the Moo and Yours and Owls.
Old Mervs are currently playing their biggest shows of their career, on the “How The Fark Are Ya? Tour” kicking it off in New Zealand last week with sold out shows in Auckland, Wellington, Christchurch along with a performance at Snow Machine in Queenstown this week. This Friday the duo start the Australian dates in Melbourne, before heading to Fremantle, Brisbane, Sydney, Hobart and Adelaide. In November Old Mervs will take their live show abroad for the first time entertaining UK audiences in Manchester, Glasgow, Birmingham, London, Bournemouth, Bristol and Cornwall. Old Mervs are serving up their most energetic and captivating live singalong shows on the “How The Fark Are Ya? Tour” belting out all the favourite classics and mosh-ready new music including “Forget It”. Lots more new music to come from our favourite indie-rock duo this year.

BUCK JOHNSON ‘Tongue and Groove’
Buck Johnson, the renowned keyboardist and backing vocalist for Aerosmith, The Hollywood Vampires (Johnny Depp, Alice Cooper, Joe Perry, and Tommy Henriksen), The Joe Perry Project, and on tour with Ringo Starr, releases his highly anticipated album Tongue and Groove. The album is a visceral experience that channels the raw power of rock and roll with the soulful depth of a seasoned storyteller. Packed with blistering guitar riffs, haunting melodies, and lyrics that cut to the bone, Tongue and Groove is a fearless tribute to resilience, drawing its strength from the timeless concept of the “tongue and groove” woodworking joint—a symbol of enduring connection and strength against life’s fiercest storms.
Tongue and Groove is a collection of songs Buck had co-written with lifelong collaborators such as Charlie Midnight (James Brown, Joe Cocker, Joni Mitchell), and was self-produced by Buck. The album showcases the roots-rock voice of Buck (“tongue”) with his classic rock production (“groove”). Buck enlisted talented musicians and friends on the album, including guitarists Damon Johnson (Lynyrd Skynyrd, Alice Cooper, Brother Cane), Peter Stroud (Sheryl Crow), Rob McNelley (Bob Seger, ACM Guitar Player of the Year), drummer Nick Buda (Taylor Swift, Kenny Chesney), and bassist Ted Pecchio (Doyle Bramhall II, Susan Tedeschi).
Reflecting on his upbringing in Shady Grove, Alabama, Buck shares, “When I was a kid growing up in Adamsville, Alabama, my family lived in an older craftsman style home, and when there would be tornado warnings, my father would say, ‘No need to worry, son, cause this house is built tongue and groove, and it will withstand any storm.’ After my father passed away in 2021, that saying resonated with me as I wrote the title track “Tongue And Groove” with Charlie Midnight and Peter Stroud, which became the cornerstone of the album.”
Drawing inspiration from his own experiences, Buck crafted an album that reflects the themes of perseverance, love, and the pursuit of passion. The tracks were carefully chosen to mirror the emotional highs and lows of life, just like the steady strength of a tongue and groove joint. Each song, with its unique message and sound, builds upon the others to create a cohesive, powerful narrative that resonates with listeners.
Buck adds, “A tongue and groove joint is a type of woodworking joint that simplifies the installation process of wood boards and materials. Its main purpose is to easily fit groove boards and joints together with minimal stress or effort involved. It creates a strong and seamless connection between the two boards.”
Tongue and Groove stands as a testament to Buck’s dedication and artistry. With its heartfelt lyrics, masterful musicianship, and rich production, Buck Johnson invites you to experience this sonic journey, where each track builds a bridge between the past and the present, reminding us all of the power of music to heal, inspire, and bring us together.
