This December, Sofar Sounds in conjunction with label giant Nettwerk, presents Portair, Georgia Mooney and Laura Lucas, another three rising artists on a national Sofar Sounds discovery tour. Sofar is again opening opportunities for these artists to play in front of new, attentive audiences across the country, in cities they may otherwise not be able to reach, building an audience outside their home cities.
Portair encodes ponderous thoughts inside of cinematic soundscapes stitched together. from analog synthesizers and live instrumentation. Generating millions of streams and earning widespread acclaim from Rolling Stone, American Songwriter, Atwood Magazine, Paste, and Variance, the Australia-born and Los Angeles-based singer, songwriter, producer, and multi-instrumentalist provokes big questions by way of intimate songcraft on his 2023 EP, The Place To Start.
Georgia Mooney is an ARIA-winning singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist. Her music is ornate, lush and hand-crafted. Audiences already know Mooney from beloved folk band All Our Exes Live In Texas. With Exes, she became a festival favourite, touring extensively around the world and sharing stages with everyone from the Backstreet Boys to Nathaniel Rateliff to Midnight Oil. The release of Mooney’s debut solo album Full of Moon marks an exciting new chapter and the stepping forward of a major talent.
Canadian born, Australian based singer-songwriter Laura Lucas fell in love with storytelling from a young age. Her introspective songwriting is delivered by delicate vocals and dreamy instrumentation rooted in a warm, modern take on the indie-folk genre. Her sophomore EP “The Dreamer,” recorded in Melbourne with platinum award-winning artist and producer Dustin Tebbutt, will be released December 8th, 2023. The EP interweaves themes of longing, vulnerability, and hope, with lush soundscapes carrying Laura’s signature intimate storytelling.
The venues for the Sofar and Nettwerk December tour will again remain a mystery until the week of each show, though as seen on the recent Sofar West Meets East Tour, they can happen anywhere from a backyard, to a vineyard, always continuing to be unexpected and unique.
Born out of frustrations with the typical concert-going experience, Sofar Sounds started in 2009 in a living room in London with pass-the-hat, artist donation performances. Over the last 10 years, the company has grown organically into a global business focused on connecting artists and audiences through live music and artist services. Sofar’s unique live experiences are places for artist discovery and community in non-traditional spaces (living rooms, art galleries, breweries, etc.) across 78 countries. Its artist services help artists own their fan relationships and build sustainable, creative lives on their own terms.
