This year saw the official opening of Empire Music Studios, a world-class, multi-faceted recording facility located just half an hour from Melbourne’s CBD. Empire is the reincarnation of the long-running, renowned Studio 52 after 35 years in Collingwood. Late last year, many of Australia’s leading recording and performing artists and industry figures came together to kick start the studio with a fabulous concert, which was recorded and now available to purchase as EMPIRE LIVE: The Official Live Opening of Studio A, with all proceeds going to Support Act.
Recorded live on 23/12/2021 at Empire Music Studios, StudioA, the night featured Ross Wilson, Joe Camilleri, Peter Cupples, Debra Byrne, Ron Martini, Bobby Valentine, Wilbur Wilde (Sax), John McAll (Piano,MD & MC), Sam Lemann (Guitar), Tony Tok Norris (Trumpet), Davey Porter (Drums) and Mitch Cairns (Bass).
Some very special performances were captured live in Studio A including Ross Wilson singing the Daddy Cool classic Come Back Again, Joe Camilleri doing his finest Van Morrison tribute with Into The Mystic, then joining Debra Byrne on I Got You Babe, Peter Cupples with a brilliant Summer Breeze and one of the stars of the evening, sax great Wilbur Wilde and band with a fabulous God Rest Ye Merry Christmas instrumental, to name a few.
In the album liner notes, Empire expressed their thanks to John McAll for putting the special night together to mark the end of Covid Lockdown’s, Christmas 2021 and the official opening of Studio A.
