Australia’s favourite anonymous mask-cladded band TISM are getting back on the tools for the first time in 20 years. Touring their cult status anthems, TISM will play three massive shows in Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne. They’re bringing along a line up worthy of the history books with special guests Eskimo Joe, Machine Gun Fellatio, Ben Lee and The Mavis’s. Not only reforming to play songs from their huge back catalogue, TISM will gift earholes with new tracks from their forthcoming album Death To Art due for release Friday 4 October.
Throwing a historic run of shows, they’ll be heading to Brisbane’s Riverstage on Sunday 20 October, the Sidney Myer Music Bowl in Melbourne on Saturday 9 November and Sydney’s Hordern Pavilion on Friday 29 November. Not only marking the extremely anticipated first headline performances in over two decades for TISM, the Death To Art Tour will also see fellow sonic scoundrels Machine Gun Fellatio reform for the first time in 19 years, as well as The Mavis’s taking to the stage for the first time in six years.
Unleashing news of their forthcoming album Death To Art earlier this year, the record is due for release on 4 October. Single “70s Football” is the first taste of the new record and stays true to TISM’s sardonic ways.
Retaining their cult-like status since forming in the early 1980s, TISM are one of Australia’s most prominent alt-rock icons. With six studio albums under their balaclavas, including their 1988 debut Great Truckin’ Songs of the Renaissance and 2004’s The White Album, TISM have also released multiple live and compilation albums and EPs over the years.
Remaining one of Australia’s most prolific acts, Machine Gun Fellatio are hitting the stage for the first time in 19 years. With an ARIA Award and an impressive touring history of sold out shows, prominent festival slots and star-studded supports for names like Robbie Williams, Primus, Kiss, Duran Duran and more, the band are back roaring and ready to hit the stage again. Cherished for singles like “Pussytown” and “The Girl of My Dreams (Is Giving Me Nightmares)” and their much loved albums Bring It On, Paging Mr Strike and On Ice, fans will hear and see their favourites in live form once again.
Fremantle’s very own eight time ARIA award winning legends Eskimo Joe will be taking the stage. With over six studio albums under their belt, the triple j Hottest 100 alumni are undoubtedly one of Australia’s most beloved acts. With new single “The First Time” ready to be heard in live form, they’ll also be playing a string of hits from across their discography from albums like Girl, 2004’s A Song Is A City and 2006’s platinum Black Fingernails, Red Wine.
Entertaining and unpredictable, songwriting maestro Ben Lee has collaborated with Josh Radnor, Ben Folds, Ben Kweller and Sara Silverman, has four pointy ARIA Awards on his mantlepiece. He’s appeared on prime time performances including at the 2006 Commonwealth Games closing ceremony and Australia’s The Masked Singer whilst continuing to tour extensively after decades of wowing crowds across the world.
Rounding out the bill are 90’s Australian music scene legends, The Mavis’s. Dominating the decade with albums like Pink Pills and Venus Returning, their synth-laden track “Cry” was one of the most played Australian song of 1998. They’ve had multiple ARIA Award nominations, toured alongside the likes of Green Day and Kylie Minogue, performed on 90s TV institutions Hey Hey It’s Saturday and Recovery and are repeat offenders in triple j’s Hottest 100 polls.
