In releasing their debut album SEASONS today, Among The Restless have launched into a spectacular new creative chapter as a collective. Rebuilding their sound into one bustling with infectious hooks, introspective lyricism and a sense of immediacy that has threaded through their trajectory since 2019, the upcoming arrival of Seasons celebrates the band’s past, present and future, channelled vigorously into their long-awaited debut full-length album.
Co-produced by the band themselves alongside Thomas Keating (Pete Murray, Gang Of Youths, Thirsty Merc), with engineering and mixing also courtesy of Keating, Seasons was mastered by Matthew Redlich (Dan Sultan, The Paper Kites, The Cactus Channel), with the entire album ultimately captured and completed at Sing Sing Recording Studios in Melbourne over the space of a year and a half. “The whole process was so memorable,” the band reveals of making Seasons. “As we spent more time there we all grew closer and started working so efficiently, we have made lifelong memories and friends.”

To celebrate the release of Seasons and an accompanying tour, Among The Restless’ Lachie Dunn takes us through the album track by track.
AMONG THE RESTLESS ‘SEASONS’ ALBUM TRACK BY TRACK
Seasons: The Title track and one of the first songs we wrote for the album, it really sets the mood. ‘Seasons’ played a massive role shaping the vibe of the entire album and we got to lean into the heavier side of our sound which was nice. It was the last song we recorded, an epic full circle moment.
Run Baby Run: Written on a sunny day in Brunswick, after we ‘finished’ the album… Famous last words! It felt like a weird mismatch in terms of the album, but after we went back into the studio and laid it down, there was no doubt it was making the cut. At its core, Run Baby Run is a very stripped back song, that’s the beauty of it, it just works, and the dual vocal is very pretty.
Play Pretend: Play Pretend was such an exciting time for us, the band was finally on its way with a clear set of intentions. Recorded this gem well before we decided on doing an album, and it snuck its way onto it. Leaning into the vulnerable side of lyrics, we started to let our walls down and shine some light on topics that aren’t so pretty.
Lost In You: This one was a difficult one for us to finish but now, it’s a favourite on the album. The verses came naturally but we struggled to go anywhere from there. It had a few iterations before we finally landed on what it is now. It’s a song that expresses our gratitude to some of the closest people to us.
Too Far Gone: This song was also written early on in the process. It holds a special place in our memories during the recording process. We were lucky enough to have our producer Tom Keating compose a string section and bring in some very talented musicians to bring it to life. What an experience it was to see it all come together.
Fade: Drum machines, more delay than a Jetstar flight, oh yea, Fade is a winner. We experimented a lot with the production on this and it’s a stand out on the record. The song represents falling out of love with where you live, and letting go of the person you were when you arrived.
Too Soon To Lose: Obviously Lachie’s favourite song because he gets to sing on it….. haha! And what a beautiful voice he has. Sonically our most experimental for sure.
Sunflower: POP BANGER. We were listening to a lot of the Weeknd during the production of this one. It was so fun to delve into the Pop realm and make a song that reflects what we always love listening to together. Juno central.
6 Years Of Madness: The last single off Seasons and no doubt the most vulnerable. Lachie wrote this regarding some very personal struggles faced. Although it does cover the hard stuff, it really has this underlying feeling of triumph, which the whole band feels as we reflect on the past 6 years of being a band. Like Run Baby Run, it has this band driven feel, nothin’ fancy, but the progression and tuning of the guitars are bloody cool. It’s my favourite.
Forever: Final song on the record. The whole album reflects, to put it basically, on life and all its twists and turns. Forever wraps it all in a satisfying bow. The song is a reassurance that everything’s going to be okay, and that in the end we are so grateful to be here.
MORE ABOUT AMONG THE RESTLESS
Forming back in 2019, Among The Restless are many things as a creative collective; a wall of sound, an alternative soundscape, and also a hub for pushing their passions for though-provoking songwriting into alternative rock fused with pop sensibilities. Releasing their debut EP Define in 2022, the group followed up in 2023 with their sophomore EP All I Want Is Everything while also constantly seeking to evolve their sound and musical boundaries along the way.
Ticking off three East Coast tours and a regional Victorian tour, Among The Restless have performed at Uncaged Festival and Beyond The Valley, and opened Melbourne’s edition of Good Things Festival in 2022 after winning the coveted Battle of the Bands competition. Previously the group were nominated for the AMPlify Award at the 2024 Music Victoria Awards, a category which celebrates and supports outstanding Deaf and/or Disabled musicians in Victoria, and have also received airplay on triple j and triple j Unearthed, along with their music video for Pixel Junkies added to ABC’s rage playlist upon release.
Following the release of their debut album, Among The Restless will also embark on their Seasons Tour, heading to Wollongong, Sydney, Canberra and San Remo in November and December, and kicking off 2027 with a bang with a run through the Gold Coast, Byron Bay, Brisbane and Melbourne in January.
“An album is something every artist dreams of and now we have done it,” the group conclude. “We really locked it all down and rediscovered our sound and we are completely proud of it, it’s where we want to be.”
Seasons is due out Friday October 30.
