Australian Musician editor Greg Phillips catches up with Boubacar Gaye from 9 piece world music ensemble Ausecuma Beats to talk about Bouba’s musical roots and their new self-titled album.
Ausecuma Beats are more than just a band, they are a philosophy. Led by master djembe player, Boubacar Gaye, the nine-strong ensemble, demonstrate artists coming together based on an idea – the idea of place, of transplanting cultural heritage into a contemporary city. Ausecuma Beats is people from all corners of the world finding themselves together in new environments, as a community.

The band showcase what happens when people from the farthest flung corners of the world find themselves living shoulder to shoulder in a new environment. The result – nine unique individuals, each masters of their own craft and with their own personal histories, working together to create something that can be called their own.
