Melbourne based vocalist, songwriter, broadcaster and DJ, Chelsea Wilson has just released her second album Chasing Gold, a disco infused good-time groove fest. It’s the follow up to her acclaimed soul-flavoured debut I Hope You’ll Be Very Unhappy Without Me. As Chelsea tells Australian Musician editor Greg Phillips in our video interview below, “I wanted to make an album you could party to”, a ballad-free zone and a great remedy for all of the darkness that is happening in the world today. With Bass player and co-producer Ross McHenry (The Shaolin Afronauts) and drummer/percussionist Myele Manzanza providing a solid pulse in the background, out front Chelsea Wilson and her world class band and backing singers take you away to a land where dancing is all the matters. However, listen closely to the lyrics and you’ll find that these are not merely throw-away pop songs, as Chelsea tackles major issues such as greed, hate, diversity and ultimately love. Chelsea heads to the UK in a couple of weeks to promote the album and will return there in July for dates.
In the meantime Melbourne audiences will get to hear the album live with a pumping 8 piece band at Howler in Brunswick on Friday April 12 along with with Au Dre, Emilia and DJ Blaberunner.
