At the Winter NAMM show in Anaheim earlier this year, Dream Theater guitarist John Petrucci announced to us that the band would be embarking on a 25th Anniversary Images & Words world tour and suggested that they might bring the tour to Australia in September. True to his word, Dream Theater performed a couple of stunning shows in Sydney and Melbourne this week, breaking out classic DT tracks such as The Dark Eternal Night, As I Am and Breaking All Illusions in their first set, then playing the Images & Words album in full after the interval.
Australian Musician editor Greg Phillips was thrilled to catch up with John again, this time in his dressing room, backstage at the Palais Theatre before their Melbourne show. In the interview, John talks about his Music Man guitars, pedals, solo album, guitar camps and Dream Theater’s 2018 plans.
