More holiday season sentiments, this time coming from oddball Sydney-based duo Plastic Face, who deliver their end of year thoughts in a manner only they could express. Also sending you warm wishes is the Ballina-based band Wharves
PLASTIC FACE
Experimental Sydney-based duo Plastic Face have announced their brooding, delightfully bizarre new single HiiViSiON, an intriguing exploration into a very strange state of mind, out today, November 17. The mysterious duo have also released a stunning clip to accompany the track, written and directed by Sean Donovan. HiiViSiON makes an immediate impact with the curious opening lyric ‘Have you ever seen a rat trying to fly?’ Evocative of 90s house music, but with hints of modern Australian influences such as Tame Impala and Flume, Plastic Face are carving out a very special, unique niche for themselves. Should the listener dance, or listen contemplatively, or do both at the same time? It’s up to the individual, as Plastic Face explain, “The song isn’t really about someone, it’s more a state of mind. This year has been so bananas it kind of represents our feeling towards it…Life and experiences make us tick, strange and unique.”

WHARVES
With their 2020 world tour plans put on ice WHARVES found themselves going through a cathartic process to improve their songwriting and recording. Matt, Mike, Scott and Fraser created a DIY studio deep in the bowels of a huge borrowed industrial shed in Ballina and much experimentation, fun and hard work was had over the months that followed. ‘Think Straight’ (out now) is the first track to come out of this experiment, recorded and produced entirely by the band. It is a dark indie pop track with ethereal layered production and an otherworldly vibe underpinned by a driving danceable beat.
Lead singer Matt says “Think Straight is about fumbling your way through life making every wrong turn and mistake and hopefully learning in the process. It’s the first time we’ve ever done the whole recording process ourselves. It’s been so good believing in our abilities and vision and seeing it through to the final stage.” The track is accompanied by an amazing music video starring ‘Chevy’ a beautiful 7 year old Staffy who was recently rescued by bass player Scott Finch. Scott says Chevy was to be fostered by him and his partner but a day in they knew that he had found his forever home. The video shows a day in the life of Chevy and was shot and edited by Scott.
‘Think Straight’ is the first single from the band’s upcoming sophomore EP to be released in 2021.
‘Think Straight’ is out now through Ditto Music.
