JACK JOHNSON: PRE-2024 BLUESFEST INTERVIEW

Jack Johnson at Bluesfest by Jason Rosewarne

Songwriter, performer, surfer and eco-warrior Jack Johnson is headed back to Australia in 2024 for Bluesfest Byron Bay, one of his favourite music festivals. Jack will be playing old favourites as well as material from his current studio album Meet The Moonlight, a collaboration with producer Blake Mills (Alabama Shakes, Perfume Genius, Jim James), and his newest release In Between Dub, a collection of Johnson’s most loved songs, remixed by the dub world’s greatest mix masters such as the late great Lee Scratch Perry,  Dennis Bovell, Scientist, Mad Professor, Nightmares on Wax, and more.

Ahead of his Bluesfest 2024 performances, Australian Musician editor Greg Phillips caught up with Jack Johnson over a zoom call to discuss his 2024 trip downunder, his latest recordings and much more.

MORE ABOUT JACK JOHNSON
Jack Johnson grew up surfing and playing guitar in Hawaii. Since 2001, he has released seven studio albums and two live albums that have sold over 25 million copies worldwide. His Brushfire Records label and touring crew have been leaders in the greening of the music industry and his All At Once social action network connects fans with local non-profits at each tour stop. Jack, with his wife Kim, founded the Kokua Hawaii Foundation to support environmental education in Hawaii’s schools and communities, as well as the Johnson Ohana Foundation to support environmental, art and music education worldwide. Proceeds from these albums and tour profits, along with Johnson’s personal charitable activities, have resulted in over $37 million donated to charity since 2001. Johnson’s latest studio album Meet The Moonlight was released in 2022 and has included sold out stops in North America, Australia, New Zealand, South America, Europe and the UK. The tour continues this fall with stops at Oceans Calling in Maryland and Beachlife Ranch in Southern California, as well as a newly announced headline set next Easter at Byron Bay Bluesfest at the beautiful Tyagarah Tea Tree Farm, just outside of Byron Bay.
