JARED CAMPBELL (VELUDO) – BASS

veludobassOz rockers, Veludo have been gathering quite a ground-swell of interest with their energetic live shows and new single, Stay Young off their self-titled EP. The band’s bass player Jared Campbell runs through his gear for Australian Musician.

What was your first bass?
An old Epiphone SG double cut away – candy red

What’s your main bass now?
Now I used Fender Jazz American standard mostly but also Rickenbacker, and Warwick for certain songs.

Through what amp and why?
Ampeg 6×10 and Marc Bass head, always loved the sound of Ampeg speakers and the weight of Marc Bass stuff is amazing with a good tone.

Do you use effects at all? If so what?
I used some effects mostly distortion from my bass big muff pie.

What’s your latest recording and when will you be back in the studio?
Latest is our debut self-titled EP and hoping to get back into the studio later in the year for album.

What gigs have you been playing lately?
Been playing all over Melbourne lately but also Falls Festival with a side project ‘Heloise’.

Most memorable gig?
Most memorable would be probably when I was younger and a band I used to be in supported The Basics (Wally De Backer, Gotye’s band). It was right when he was about to blow up from second album and I’d listen to it and was amazed then meeting him and hanging out was a huge highlight for me.

Worst stage nightmare?
Everything not working!

What gigs are coming up in the next few months?
We have an EP tour of WA and East Coast which I’m really looking forward to.

A bass tip for the kids?
Always try something new, don’t get stuck in the one pattern but also don’t lose the groove!
