KT Mulholland (Kathleen to her parents) is a singer, songwriter, and performer currently based in Queens, New York. Along with her band members Captain Hitz and Nadav Post, they create an eclectic library of fusion pop that is as focused on strong lyrical content as it is danceable. KT cut her teeth at a recording studio in Long Island City, where she worked as a session singer and through a deal with the studio, was able to create and release her first EP, “Patchwork Soldier” in 2012. Later that year, she was selected as a top-five finalist on Empire City’s Got Talent (television). Shortly after she was honoured as the 2013 New York Rose of Tralee, singing her original music across Ireland in a whirlwind tour late summer ’13. With Irish audiences reaching over one million, she returned to New York on a mission: to form a super team of musicians and make as much music as possible.
Her most recent album, “A La Carte” marks Mulholland’s debut work with producer Captain Hitz of Firehaus Records. Released in October last year, the two have used this work to explore and expand their musical limits, while creating a collection of songs that will inspire and challenge today’s popular audience. The title, “A la Carte,” refers to the band’s goal: to make music that reaches a wider demographic by crossing genre and mood. Something for everyone, they suggest. Nadav Post has since come on onboard with his guitar skills to add further colour to KT’s musical world.
As part of our association with Reverb Nation, Australian Musician editor Greg Phillips caught up with KT, Captain Hitz, and Nadav via Skype while they were taking a break from work on new music in their studio.
