LEANNE TENNANT: ‘RED WINE, LATE NIGHTS’ INTERVIEW

Cairns-based singer songwriter Leanne Tennant was born in the UK, spent her childhood in Papua New Guinea and eventually settled in Australia, where as a 16 year old, busked the streets of Brisbane and played some dubious Valley venues while collecting life experiences and refining her craft. In 2014, the Queensland Music Awards winner for best “Blues & Roots” artist, released her debut album, ‘Pull Up Your Britches’ to much acclaim. Now in her thirties, Leanne has just delivered her second album, ‘Red Wine, Late Nights’ and clearly has developed into a quality songwriter and vocalist of note. Within the starkness and darkness of her soul-baring tales, Tennant offers endless tender moments of beauty, hope and reflection. Her heartfelt melodies provide a comforting anti-venom to the ever-increasing musical debri which inhabits our ear-space, masquerading as substance. Long live the keepers of the real.
Australian Musician’s Greg Phillips sat down with Leanne at her Wesley Anne, Melbourne gig to discuss her past, present and future.
