LLOYD SPIEGEL: ‘BAKEHOUSE DOZEN’ ALBUM INTERVIEW

Melbourne Blues artist Lloyd Spiegel has been touring the globe making music for 30 of his 40 years. The 14 time Australian Blues Award Winner has one of the most interesting stories in music, having grown up on stage, learning from and touring with the founding fathers of modern Blues. Spiegel’s guitar wizardry, powerful lyrics and knack for humorous story telling delivers a truly unique performance that reinvents the genre and dispels the cliches associated with the Blues.

His incredible command of the guitar, powerful voice and high energy performance captivates any audience. In between extensive touring within Australia, Lloyd has travelled all over the world with frequent tours to Germany, Italy, Japan and the U.S.A, where he’s toured coast to coast 6 times. More recently it’s Canada which has been a hot spot for an ever-growing Spiegel fanbase, with successful appearances at the Montreal Jazz Festival, Ottawa Bluesfest and Mariposa Folk Festival

Now in 2023, Lloyd Spiegel celebrates a new era with some old tunes, live in session. Between 2017 and 2019, Lloyd Spiegel chronicled his journey through depression and personal growth with a trilogy of albums. ‘This time tomorrow’, ‘Backroads’ and ‘Cut and Run’ were all named Album of the year at the Australian Blues Music Awards and collectively picked up 19 awards in all, including Blues and Roots Radio Worldwide Album of the year and a Music Victoria award.

In 2021, Spiegel and long time collaborator/drummer Tim Burnham welcomed Lisa Baird to the mix on trombone and backing vocals. The new layers and approach, combined with the creation of a brand new hybrid guitar designed specifically for this show was an instant hit with fans and brought about Spiegel’s most dynamic and exciting show to date. Recorded live in session with no overdubs in a single room at Melbourne’s iconic Bakehouse Studios, ‘Bakehouse Dozen’ offers re-imagined versions of songs from Spiegel’s last 3 albums and showcases the raw depth and talent of this new trio with a twist, signaling what’s to come.

Bakehouse Dozen is available for pre-purchase on CD, Vinyl and iTunes from July 1 prior to its official release on August 1.
