Fresh from recording sessions in the Hollywood Hills, MAYA will release her debut single ‘Sinners’ (on August 5), a punchy, soulful reflection of the darkness and light within relationships.. MAYA will be celebrating the fiery tune with a string of shows hitting Paris Cat on July 29, The Evelyn on September 2 and The Athenaeum (with Jim Steinman) on September 17. Maya also found time to answer a Q&A for us
What was your first gig?
My father actually! I just found a photo of me watching him perform when I was 2 or so.
What microphone do you use on stage generally?
Beta 58a.
Is it the same for recording?
No – for recording I use a Shure SM7B!
What’s your latest recording and when will you be back in the studio?
My latest record is Sinners, a song with a strong Soul/Pop feel, heavy bass lines and lyric sass. A vibe and sound I will always love and be happy I approached. Yet over the last half a year I have been working to create my first EP! A part of the EP is a Sinners Rework, which we will be releasing very soon!
What gigs have you been playing lately?
I have been playing around at a few venues including the Evelyn, Bigmouth, Chiara and Paris Cat Jazz Club.
Most memorable gig?
Dizzy’s Jazz Club 2012 was such a beautiful vibe in the room. Will never forget those small intimate gigs with close friends and family.
Worst stage nightmare?
Stuffing up the lyrics to someone’s wedding song!

What gigs are coming up in the next few months?
Hugs and Kisses on Saturday 27th of August, single launch gig on the 2nd of September at the Evelyn Hotel, but I host live jams at various bars each week.
