When we last caught up with Scottish singer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist and new wave icon Midge Ure, we were at the NAMM Show in Anaheim, California and the Coronavirus was barely on anyone’s radar. After NAMM, Midge and his band embarked on a sold out tour of Australia and New Zealand. As the tour progressed, the Coronavirus was escalating, nipping at the heels of each gig. As Midge arrived in each Australian city, parameters were changing quickly and decisions had to be made as to whether shows went on or not. By the time he got to Perth, which was the final date of the tour, social distancing measures were in place, crowd sizes were restricted to ten people and the gig had to be cancelled. Midge finally made it back to the UK and is now safely in isolation at home.
Australian Musician’s Greg Phillips caught up with Midge Ure via Skype to relive the Australian and NZ 2020 tour.
