Electronic newcomer Hansaa, otherwise known as Vinay Matta, has been honing his craft as a producer and producer in Los Angeles for the past two years; but has recently announced his debut single Need To Know, co-produced with LA-based production duo soso and featuring the stirring vocals of Oliver Tank. Guest vocalist on the track, Oliver Tank took the time to do a little Q&A with us
What was your first gig?
When I was a kid in high school we entered a battle of the bands
What microphone do you use on stage generally?
Usually SM48
Is it the same for recording?
No for recording I’ll use Rhodes Condenser mics either NTR or NT1
What’s your latest recording and when will you be back in the studio?
I’ve been in the studio with Vin (Hansaa) a bit lately recording some stuff. Need to Know was my last release other than that just been working on my EP
What gigs have you been playing lately?
Just wrapped up a national tour of Australia for my album which dropped earlier in the year. Was a lot of fun
Most memorable gig?
Sydney and Melbourne when my first EP ‘Dreams’ dropped. Was really special, like a dream come true
Worst stage nightmare?
All my equipment breaking and not knowing what to do. I got backups of everything so it should never happen but the thought of it still scares me
Album that changed your life?
James Blake, such forward thinking electronic music with so much emotion. Changed the game
What gigs are coming up in the next few months?
No gigs on the horizon, right now just focusing on writing new music
A vocal tip for the kids?
Care what your singing about and it’ll sound genuine. Also if you can’t sing try autotune its a lot of fun
