Folkster Simon Paparo has recently released his glistening new single Gold At Midnight, a respectful ode to the tender first months of fresh love. Simon will launch the single at Melbourne’s Workers Club on May 13. He has also dropped a spectacularly beautiful video to accompany the track, featuring a young couple basking in the golden hour, directed by Claire Nica (Fountaineer, 360, Thundamentals). SIMON PAPARO – VOCAL PROFILE
What was your first gig?
It was an open mic night many moons ago in Sydney. I was just playing guitar and a friend of mine was singing. I was too scared to sing in public at that stage. I was probably about 15 or 16 at the time.
What microphone do you use on stage generally?
Most of the time I use the Shure SM58. It’s the industry standard for a reason and a great mic really.
Is it the same for recording?
On occasion yes, but usually no. For recording vocals I use a large diaphragm condenser mic by Audio Technica. I use the 4050 model. It’s a brilliant vocal recording mic as it really brings out the natural tone of the singers voice.
What’s your latest recording and when will you be back in the studio?
The latest recording is my new single “Gold at Midnight”. This song is co-written and featuring Charlie Heart. I’m really happy with the result. After I’ve done the single launch it’s back to the studio to finish off the next single, to be released in July 2018 and then I’ll finish off the EP to be released in October 2018.
What gigs have you been playing lately?
The last gig I played was in Sydney with Charlie Heart and Paul Mason at Misfits bar in Redfern. This was a great gig and a good warm up for the single launch for “Gold at Midnight” which will be played at The Workers Club, Fitzroy, Melbourne on Sunday May 13th.
Most memorable gig?
This was the EP launch I did with my old band The Drifting back in 2012. It was memorable for many reasons. Mainly the fact that it was a great receptive audience with an awesome atmosphere. It was also my first real release of music so that made it all the more exciting.
