WATCH: SEAWITCH: Fiona Horne & Dave Hopkins Interview

Seawitch is a vibrant new Australian rock band, featuring Fiona Horne, former lead singer of top charting electro-rock band, Def FX, Dave ‘Spiff’ Hopkins, lead guitarist of legendary surf rockers, The Hellmenn, Brad Miller on bass and Adam Sciullo on drums. Blending Fiona’s high octane stage presence and her witchcraft imagery with Dave’s garage rock energy, Seawitch deliver a full throttle, hot ’n sweaty, rock ’n’ roll experience, the way it ought to be.

Seawitch’s debut album Well of Spells is out October 21, just in time for Halloween, and can be pre-ordered right now. It is available as a Limited-Edition Purple Vinyl (100 copies only), Limited Edition Orange Vinyl (100 copies only), black vinyl, CD and digitally. All vinyl comes with a digital download card. Seawitch is celebrating the release of Well of Spells with shows in WA and Victoria. See dates below.

Ahead of the album release and shows, Fiona Horne and Dave Hopkins zoomed in with Australian Musician editor Greg Phillips to chat about all things Seawitch.

About Force, the second single from Seawitch:
“Force” is the second single from the debut album Well of Spells by Australian rock band Seawitch. Seawitch is fronted by former Def FX lead singer, bestselling author and real-life Witch, Fiona Horne. Fiona has written fourteen books on Witchcraft, and her song lyrics are inspired by her Craft.

“’Force’ is a song about the power inside every individual to transform their lives for the better. When my mind is troubled or my direction in life is unclear, and I’m seeking inner guidance, I write down my concerns about the situation. This song originated from that practice. “On this paper dark and forlorn, the written words are hurting – now they have no form, just letters with no meaning.” Write it down, get it out, ‘cut it away’ and let inspiration arrive. It’s the magick force we all have … ‘Here it comes from the source.’” – Fiona Horne

“Musically, ‘Force’ is plain old simple high energy rock n roll birthed from the roots laid by late Sixties band, MC5. Blend that in with some filthy fuzz from like-minded rock n roll soldiers Thee Hypnotics, and some ghost of Jimi Hendrix, and we are getting close.” – Dave (Spiff) Hopkins

Bewitch your Halloween with new rock sensation, SEAWITCH, featuring real life Witch, FIONA HORNE (formerly lead singer of 90’s faves, Def FX) and guitarist Dave (Spiff) Hopkins of surf punk legends, HELLMENN.

SEAWITCH hail from the Wild West of Oz and this is their maiden voyage East to launch their debut album ‘WELL OF SPELLS’ (Cheersquad Records), a web of heavy rock, strewn with spells and enchantments, anchored with catchy fuzz feels and intoxicating salty stoner riffs.

Online music magazine, Around the Sound, sums up the enchantment of Seawitch: “The members of Seawitch, including frontwoman, FIONA HORNE, have all been there done that, so they have no expectations to live up to, no fucks left to give. That can go one of two ways: you can either phone it in while you struggle to pay off your 90s coke debt or you can just let rip and sound like a band that’s having the most fun they’ve ever had. Seawitch kick out the jams while playing maximum R&B. It’s stoner rock at its sweaty, shirts-off best and, right now, I don’t think there are any bands anywhere in the world that could do what Seawitch do.”  – Andrea Thompson

Joining SEAWITCH at their HALLOWEEN ROCK’N’ROLL BALL are:

HOSS:  Since 1989, HOSS have been dipping into the eternally bubbling ROCKPOT and ladling out potent little cups of the good stuff to the precious few. That’s You! Despite their lack of flamboyance and ever diminishing mobility, HOSS just seem to sit there and get better and better. Can’t help it! Welcoming magnificent new drummer Cris Wilson (ex- Warped), HOSS plan to warm and excite you this Hallow’s Eve.

ELECTRIC PURRS: These four un-neutered Melbourne pests, spray fast, upbeat garage punk. After dropping their 2021 EP, Hot Chaps, Electric Purrs are quickly getting their name around town with a loud, punchy, rock n roll set that’s sure to get your hips shakin’. For a good time, like the Witch’s cat, get Familiar with this gorgeous gang of raunch and sorcery.

DJ JANE GAZZO:  High Priestess of Music Culture, Jane Gazzo will be spinning the best rockin’ spooky tunes to shake your bones to. Jane’s bewitching broadcasting career began at the age of 16 at Melbourne radio station 3RRR-FM. She then went on to present nationally on Triple J and became a popular name in the 1990’s co-hosting ABC-TV cult TV show Recovery (where she interviewed Fiona Horne in her original band Def FX!) Since then, she has conquered the airwaves of the US and UK, returning home to Oz in 2007 and firmly establishing herself as a pop music culture icon, with stints at Triple M, best-selling books and in-demand personal appearances. She is the co-founder of the Facebook group, Sound As Ever, Australian Indie 1990-1999 with over 20,000 members uniting to celebrate the best of 90’s music – expect to hear a lot of it at the Ball! – and has recently co-authored along with Andrew P Street the new book Sound As Ever: A Celebration of the Greatest Decade in Australian Music (1990-1999)

More Trick and Treating at the Ball:

Witchy Wares Market will be selling cool collectible vinyl, CDs and mesmerizing Band Merch along with magickal trinkets and surprises!
