It’s pretty much a virtual Jurassic Park of analogue synths, blended with the cutting edge technology of modern era music making technology. It’s Roland’s AIRA series of digital products which was launched this year with the System -1 Plug-out synth, VT-3 Voice Transformer effects processor, TB-3 Touch bassline synth and TR-8 Rhythm Performer. Roland has since added to the series and the latest addition to the AIRA series is the SH-2 PLUG-OUT Software Synthesizer, an incredibly precise recreation of the classic SH-2, using Roland’s decades-old expertise and deep knowledge of the original analog units. Like other products in the AIRA series, this new SH-2 uses Analog Circuit Behaviour (ACB) technology to faithfully capture the fine details of the SH-2’s sound, right down to the behaviour and interaction of the individual analog circuits. Part classic Roland gear, part next-generation electronic-music technology, this series lets you tap into knob-tweaking simplicity reminiscent of traditional analog equipment, but with the sheer flexibility only digital processing can offer.
