For TC Electronic, designing the MojoMojo Overdrive was both simple and complex. They wanted to a create pedal that sounded like an amp, with a very open character and little compression allowing even the most subtle parts of your playing to shine through. They set out to capture lightning in a bottle with a clarity that allowed even the most complex chords to stand out.
What they came up with was an overdrive pedal with increased circuit board voltage for extra headroom, precise tone controls, and a voicing switch. It’s a dynamic pedal using a special circuit that ramps up the voltage to more than 3-4 times the amount of your typical drive pedals.
MojoMojo is also a very musical pedal, but it needs direction. It’ll be up to the user to integrate it into their own gear via the tone controls. However, MojoMojo also sounds great right off the bat, dial in added punch or body or use it to add beef to your leads. In essence, the Mojo Mojo is something you get from a fully cranked tube amp working hard. Simple, but so dastardly hard to capture. MojoMojo actually succeeded doing this in the most natural and musical of ways and is in fact so ‘fat sounding’, they added the voicing switch for backing off the bass a bit when used with dark sounding guitars.
