2019 RECLINK COMMUNITY CUP 25TH ANNIVERSARY

Reclink Australia is thrilled to announce that the 25th Anniversary of the most talked about and iconic event on the community calendar – The Reclink Community Cup – will take place in Melbourne this year on Sunday June 23.

Drawing from the legendary songwriter/musicians, Paul Kelly and Kev Carmody’s classic hit, this year’s theme ‘From Little Things Big Things Grow’ will be celebrated across Australia by each host city with their own unique style, starting in Melbourne, followed by Adelaide, Brisbane, Sydney, Hobart, Fremantle, and Canberra.

The 25th annual Melbourne Reclink Community Cup promises another great day of community, fundraising, music, and of course grassroots footy, as the Megahertz (Community Radio Triple R 102.7FM & PBS 106.7FM) take on the ESPY Rockdogs (musos).

“The Espy’s pumped to be back involved. We reckon the Community Cup and The Espy just kinda belong together – like Paul and Kev, and footy and rock. This amazing community event is a big part of The Espy’s history and we’re proud to be part of it.” – Matt Mullins, The Espy

“Both stations look forward to the community cup, where we team up to raise much needed funds for Reclink, while taking on our arch rivals the Rockdogs. It’s a fun day for a good cause!” – Dave Houchin RRR General Manager and Adrian Basso PBS General Manager.

Kicking off on Sunday 23 June, with the Melbourne event bringing the winter-braving, sports-loving, good-vibing punters back to Collingwood’s spiritual home of football, Victoria Park and to the broadcasters’ home turf.

While footy is the star on the day of the Cup, the event is just as renowned for its incredible bill of pre-match, half-time, and post-match bands, with performances from some of the nation’s most beloved artists for both little and big kids alike.

We are thrilled to announce that this year’s lineup includes Aussie alternative/grunge rock saints Magic Dirt and winner of Young Australian of the Year, the freshest Yolngu hip-hop artist from the Top End, Baker Boy,  plus funk synthesist Harvey Sutherland performing live – with other bands and entertainment for the entire family to be announced.

2019 also welcomes new sponsor, Waterlogic, who are delighted to be involved as a national partner: “Waterlogic is extremely proud to support this iconic national event and the outstanding work with disadvantaged communities by all those at Reclink” said Carl Crowley, Waterlogic Australia

Most importantly, funds raised through the Reclink Community Cup series support Reclink Australia’s work with disadvantaged communities across Australia. From its inception back in 1993, the Melbourne event now rallies more than 12,000 avid followers who collectively raise over $150,000 every year for the cause.

“This year’s national theme ‘From Little Things Big Things Grow’ is based on the song about Vincent Lingiari who stood for Aboriginal rights and their ownership of land. Today we also draw an inspirational message of what can be achieved when people stand together for what is right and what is fair. Who could have imagined that from its small beginning in St. Kilda, the Community Cup would grow to become a national iconic event?” said John Ballis, CEO Reclink Australia

Reclink Australia delivers specialist sport, recreation, and arts programs for at-risk youth, people with mental illness or disability, people experiencing homelessness and domestic violence, and those facing alcohol, gambling, and substance addictions.

So get your winter woollies on to brave the cold and get amongst it this winter – with $25 gate entry for big kids and just $5 for the under 16s, it’s sure to be a cracking day!
