CLOTILDE AND ALEXANDRE (FRANCE) PRESENT ‘MADELEINE & SALOMON’ IN AUSTRALIA
The humanist and rebellious French duo Madeleine & Salomon – Clotilde & Alexandre are bringing their beautiful musical collaboration to Australia.
‘Madeleine & Salomon’ is the meeting of two artists with well-established musical visions: the vocalist and flautist, Clotilde Rullaud, and pianist and multi-instrumentalist, Alexandre Saada. It’s one of those shows that to describe it, merely doesn’t do it justice, it has to be seen to be fully appreciated. It perfectly combines beauty and purpose.
Together, their show ‘Madeleine & Salomon’ embraces with ardour the feminist American songbook, covering it with loving-kindness tinged with minimalistic music and with a deep and incandescent chant.
Their album ‘A Woman’s Journey’ reveals a graceful and unexpected reinterpretation of a humanist and rebellious repertoire, from Nina Simone to Janis Joplin, Billie Holiday to Josephine Baker. Madeleine sings, Salomon sits at the piano. Madeleine & Salomon is a duo with a natural elegance, with “less is more” at its essence.
Long-term friends, they discovered during a tour of Asia in 2014 that they shared a common musical aesthetic and decided to form the duo Madeleine & Salomon. The pair took advantage of the Melbourne Recital Centre’s invitation in June 2015 to rethink the American Songbook in their original fashion and record their ‘A Woman’s Journey’. This homage to American female protest singers is enriched on stage by free improvisations inspired by dreamlike short films.
‘A Woman’s Journey’ was named ‘Best Album 2016’ by the French National Radio France Musique and by Jazz Magazine and Citizenjazz.
