GALLERY: JOE BONAMASSA – PALAIS THEATRE

Photo coverage by Jason Rosewarne

Blues guitar fans gathered at Melbourne’s Palais Theatre last Wednesday (Oct 6, 2016) night to witness an electric performance by American guitar slinger Joe Bonamassa. Flicking from Strat to Les Paul to Flying V, Joe played  tracks from a wide array of his albums, including Blues Of Desperation, his latest studio recording as well as classic tunes from his new live multi-format set (Live At The Greek Theatre), which pays tribute to Albert King, BB King and Freddie King. Bonamassa has been a regular visitor to Australia for some time and it was no surprise to see local chanteuses Mahalia Barnes and Jade MacRae among his backing singers, and at one point allowing Mahalia a moment in the spotlight too. Joe proved that the blues is still alive and well, as he left an adoring crowd on their feet shouting for more. Mention must be made of the support act Sinead Burgess (check out her latest EP Wolf), who won a lot of new fans on the night.

Also in attendance was our Melbourne Guitar Show Joe Bonamassa competition winner Paul Varone, who had this to say: “It was one of the best concerts and the seats provided was as good as you get it. If Joe ever tours Australia in the future, it would be definitely a concert to go to. He is one of the most amazing guitarists and performers in the world. The follow up from the organisers/promoters was fantastic and they made every effort to provide The best seats on the night. Again thank you and can’t wait for next year’s guitar show.” Paul Varone
