The 2014 Melbourne Music Bank competition final was held last night at Salon, the Melbourne Recital Centre’s smaller boutique venue. Four finalists performed their songs inspired by the city of Melbourne with folk-rocker Heloise taking out the major prize for her song ‘This Is Home’. Hip Hop artist NY (Nyoun Thong) won second prize and the admiration of many in the audience for his energetic performance. Other acts to perform on the night included Under The Arch, a band which was only formed in February this year and Selki, who relocated to Melbourne from Byron Bay recently.  Melbourne Music Bank ambassador and the night’s host, Ella Hooper also performed two songs from her soon to be released (Nov 21) solo album, In Tongues.

As the winning artist, Heloise has earned herself two days recording at Sing Sing Studios, a video clip by film maker Wilk, live gigs, album artwork, 500 CDs, PR and marketing advice and her song to be used in a Bank of Melbourne advertising campaign.

Judges on the night featured an all-female panel including; Melbourne Music Bank ambassador Ella Hooper, Kirsten Siddle Director of Programming at Melbourne Recital Centre, Beat Magazine Music Editor Cara Williams, Jac Phillips head of brand and marketing at Bank of Melbourne, and PBS 106.7FM Music Director Chelsea Wilson.
