Bona fide guitar legend and perennial music poll winner Al Di Meola, one of the most acclaimed guitarists of our time, has today announced a three-date east coast tour of Australia.

Starting with a headline performance at the Melbourne International Jazz Festival on Tuesday October 18 at the Melbourne Recital Centre, Di Meola will then play Brisbane’s Fortitude Music Hall on Wednesday October 19 before heading to Sydney’s State Theatre on Thursday October 20.

Tickets on sale Monday August 15 at 11am. My Live Nation members can secure tickets first during the My Live Nation presale 10am Friday 12 August until 10am Monday 15 August. For tour information and tickets visit livenation.com.au

Speaking about his return to Australia Al Di Meola said, “I am very excited to finally be back in Australia! We will be playing new music, some renditions of the Beatles and pieces by the late great Tango master Astor Piazzolla. We will see you down under!”

Di Meola has been recognised internationally for more than four decades as a virtuoso of the highest order.

A prolific composer and prodigious six-string talent, Di Meola has amassed over 20 albums as a leader while collaborating on a dozen or so others with the likes of the fusion supergroup Return to Forever (with Chick Corea, Stanley Clarke, and Lenny White), the celebrated acoustic guitar trio featuring fellow virtuosos John McLaughlin and Paco de Lucia, and the Rite of Strings trio with bassist Clarke and violinist Jean-Luc Ponty.

While his dazzling technique on both acoustic and electric guitars has afforded Di Meola regal status among the hordes of fretboard aficionados who regularly flock to his concerts, the depth of Di Meola’s writing, along with the soulfulness and his inherent lyricism of his guitarist expression, have won him legions of fans worldwide.

His most recent album, 2020’s “Across the Universe” showcases his strikingly reimagined arrangements and creative interpretations of 14 Beatles songs with a full-scale production featuring orchestrations balanced with lavish acoustic arrangements and electric guitar.
