Mindy Meng Wang is a versatile Chinese/Australian composer and world-class modern Guzheng player. She was born and trained in China, and studied western musicology in the UK before emigrating to Australia.
For her second single ‘Stirring Flower 搅花 (feat. Daniel Jenatsch)’, Mindy Meng Wang has partnered with Melbourne based experimental producer and beatmaker Daniel Jenatsch. His work combines hyper-detailed soundscapes, music and video to create multimedia documentaries, installations, radio pieces and performances. A longtime collaborator of Mindy, Jenatsch has also exhibited at the Australian Centre for Contemporary Art, the Athens Biennale, NextWave Festival, Australian Centre for the Moving Image, Liquid Architecture Festival, and the Museum of Contemporary Art, Sydney.
For this piece, Mindy and Daniel sought to combine traditional techniques and completely new ways of playing and engaging with Mindy’s guzheng. Emotionally, it is a fusion of energy, something that appears initially soft and delicate, and yet is full of intense driving energy.
