The Andy Warhol |Ai Weiwei exhibition was launched to media this morning with the great Ai Weiwei present and in conversation with NGV Director Tony Ellwood. A longtime Andy Warhol fan, Ai Weiwei said he was humbled to have his works coupled with Warhol for this exhibition. Asked if he’d ever met Andy, Weiwei replied that he was in the same room once and saw him from afar, adding that you ‘feel’ his presence anyway. The launch was attended by media, musicians and artists including Henry Wagons and Thurston Moore.
In conjunction with the exhibition, NGV presents Friday Nights where you can enjoy after-hours entry to Andy Warhol |Ai Weiwei, talks, food and bars, plus DJ sets in the NGV Garden and weekly live performances by international and Australian acts in the Great Hall. Doors open 6pm. Headline act from 8.30pm.
