PENINSULA PICNIC: MENUS & SET TIMES

After a sold-out inaugural event, the Mornington Peninsula’s most extensive food, wine and music gathering, The Peninsula Picnic, is returning on March the 20th with a bigger line-up, a larger site, plus even more gourmet restaurants, decadent wineries, fresh local produce and quality artisan wares. Playing times and menus have now been announced so it is officially time to start planning your Peninsula Picnic 2016!

The Mornington Peninsula is well-known for being one of the best spots for budding food and wine critics in the country, and The Peninsula Picnic is offering everyone a chance to sample a little of everything from the area in one day.

Chefs from each restaurant have worked together to ensure there is variety in the entire menu, including Charcuterie and Cheese Platters from Merricks General Wine Store, Green Olive’s famous Main Ridge Lamb Meatballs, Ricotta Gnocchi with Braised Pork shoulder from Paringa Estate and to celebrate the stunning coastal location of the picnic Montalto’s signature Grilled Squid in a Ciabatta Roll with Estate Apple and Fennel Slaw.

They’ve sat down with each restaurant and sommeliers to create a few delectable suggestions that will ensure your palette will be enjoying every delicious flavour the picnic has to offer (see below).

And don’t forget our friends at Fat Yak will be setting up a bar to cater for those people who prefer an ice cold brew.
As for the music line-up, Mornington Peninsula local Ruby Whiting will be getting the day started followed by the rising star of the indie scene, Timberwolf.

After lunch, Powderfinger’s Darren Middleton will get things going before Kim Churchill – who is well-known for playing a number of instruments simultaneously – takes to the stage for what is sure to be one of the many highlights of the day.

Missy Higgins will take the well-fed and watered picnickers into the early evening with songs from all her albums as well as her most recent song ‘Oh Canada’, a heartfelt tribute to three-year-old Syrian asylum seeker Aylan Kurdi.

With a country harvest atmosphere, The Peninsula Picnic takes place over one unique day in the leafy and sea-salted surrounds of Mornington Racecourse, and is the recipe for that perfect regional escape or family day out.
