Rock in Rio has confirmed a spot at this year’s event for Brisbane hitmakers Sheppard. Playing for the first time in Brazil, the band will perform on the World Stage on the same night as Sam Smith and Rihanna – the only Australian band on this year’s line-up.

The event is renowned as the world’s biggest music festival, spanning over seven days on a site covering more than 150,000 m2. Other artists confirmed for the World Stage at this year’s event include Katy Perry, System of a Down, A-Ha, Queens of the Stone Age, Elton John, Faith No More, Metallica, Queen + Adam Lambert, Motley Crue, Mastodon, Rod Stewart, OneRepublic, The Script, and Slipknot. Just some of the names confirmed for other stages include John Legend, Korn, Magic!, Deftones, Steve Vai and Sérgio Mendes.

With a history spanning 30 years, Rock in Rio is the world’s largest music and entertainment event. The festival has already celebrated 14 editions, five in Brazil (1985, 1991, 2001, 2011 and 2013), six in Portugal (2004, 2006, 2008, 2010, 2012 and 2014) and three in Spain (2008, 2010 and 2012). In 2015, Rock in Rio will take place for the first time in Las Vegas, USA, in May. In September, the sixth edition in Brazil will be staged at the City of Rock, the world’s most iconic festival site in Rio de Janeiro.
