KIM SALMON’S SMOKED SALMON “HELL IN A HANDBASKET” (Single/video) Debut album (Feb 28)
So, it’s October 2023 at the end of Smoked Salmon’s tour of France with the French lineup of Kim, Doug, Dimi & Delphine (Smoked Salmon in 3D on the merch tee shirts). Dimi’s got some connections and gets the band a couple of days recording near his home. A year and a bit later, “Hell In A Handbasket” from that session is out as Smoked Salmon’s 2nd single!
The band is embarking on its 2nd Australian tour since recording its debut album (out next February). The single is #2 on the AIR ( look it up) charts 1st week in. Following their 1st film clip for “How Did They Ever Manage” they’ve re-enlisted the considerable talents of Benny J Ward to do what he would with lip synced footage from the band members interspersed with some crazy ink drawn visions of Hell from Kim. The results are somewhat like being in an episode of Get Smart at a Kaos party and someone’s spiked the punch with acid and there’s fuzz guitar and day glow triple exposure all round! What’s not to love about it!
Smoked Salmon’s debut album, which is self-titled, will be released on February 28, 2025, and will comprise a selection of new material that sits seamlessly alongside ‘the old stuff you love’ (ie The Scientists, Beasts of Bourbon, Kim Salmon & The Surrealists and Antenna), all lovingly performed by an international cast. Stay tuned for further information.
“Hell in a Handbasket” might’ve come to Kim Salmon in a burst last year but it’d been brewing since Brexit. His bleak appraisal of current world events is straight outta Bosch!
On this second single from the forthcoming Smoked Salmon album, French rhythm section and vocalists Delphine Ciampi and Dimi Dero team up with Salmon to deliver this blistering descent into hell. Recorded on tour in Perpignan, France by Sylvain Philipon, “Hell in a Handbasket” features all original artwork from Kim Salmon. The B-Side is “These Grooves are Haunted”, a maniacal slice of stomping glam rock performed by the Smoked Salmon Melbourne Chapter and recorded by Henry Hugo.
Smoked Salmon’s new single “Hell in a Handbasket”/”These Grooves Are Haunted” is available now digitally and on four limited edition 7″ vinyl colour variants:
50 x recycled green
50 x recycled red
100 x opaque red
100 x black

FANGZ LAUNCH ‘THE NIGHT SHOW WITH COTTREAU’ (Single/Video)
Eora/Sydney-based punk rock quintet FANGZ have just unveiled their new show ‘The Night Show with Cottreau’ – shot and directed by Rhys Bennett (DZ Deathrays, Totally Unicorn).
‘The Night Show with Cottreau’ is a take on how the media often gives the wrong people a platform. Whether it’s reality stars, criminals, or athletes, they’re handed the mic to share opinions or sell products. By doing that, the media not only amplifies them but makes them seem relatable, even likable, just because they’re entertaining. It’s a look at how easily narratives can be controlled, and it leaves you unsure of what to believe. Click to view ‘The Night Show with Cottreau’
Host Josh Cottreau describes the motivation behind the show: “The Night Show with Cottreau isn’t just a talk show—it’s the blueprint for what late-night should be. Think David Letterman, but smarter. Jerry Springer, but classier. It’s not just better; it’s necessary. Late-night needs saving, and I’m the guy to do it.”
FANGZstock’s return was recently announced as an interstate tour, joined by Mountain Wizard Death Cult across all shows. The first stop will be Meanjin/Brisbane, with local acts Something Something Explosion, BOOF HEADS, Joy In Motion and Boys at the Back. Following this, both acts will perform at Naarm/Melbourne with locals Raging Hormones, Arabella and The Heist, Damaged Goods Club and Dear Matilda. FANGZstock will finish in FANGZ’s hometown Eora/Sydney, joined by Bare Bones, Dedpan, Creep Features and Second Idol. Along with the shows, the event will also include a Hot Dog Eating Contest, Unlucky Door Prize and Kissing Booth.
Wrapping up 2024, the quintet has recently completed a run of headline shows and national tours with The Bennies and Cancer Bats (CAN), and performed at Froth & Fury in Tandanya/Adelaide, alongside the likes of Northlane, Thy Art Is Murder and Fear Factory (USA). They’ve traversed the country multiple times, selling out headline shows, performing at festivals and sharing stages with the likes of FIDLAR (USA), Pennywise (USA), The Bronx (USA), RedHook, Comeback Kid (CAN), He Is Legend (USA) and Gyroscope.
Off the back of releasing ‘Wasting Time’ and ‘Nothing To Lose’, latest single ‘Wide Awake’ has received strong support from the likes of triple j, triple j Unearthed, Apple Music, Rolling Stone Magazine (AUS), The Music, The AU Review and many more. The group have also launched their very own line of hot sauce ‘Fang us Some Sauce’, an annually curated festival ‘FANGZstock’, and hold the Guinness world record for the most hard-boiled eggs eaten in one sitting by front man Josh Cottreau (143 eggs in three minutes and ten seconds).
‘Wide Awake’ is available worldwide now

HONNE- THE OUCH AUS TOUR! – MARCH 2025
Secret Sounds is excited to announce that London-based soulful alt-pop duo HONNE are returning to Australia in March 2025, set to light up stages in Sydney and Melbourne with their energetic, heartfelt live performances.
HONNE, aka Andy Clutterbuck and James Hatcher, will head down under with a fresh set of tracks from their much-anticipated fourth studio album OUCH, which dropped in early September.
OUCH is described by Andy as “the most personal and delicate album we’ve created. It’s inward, outward, forward and backward looking and documents my wonderful and daunting journey into parenthood and how that has re-shaped me as a person.”
Deep down HONNE has always been about two people and the friendship between them. Sure, the UK alt-pop duo have reached incredible heights – from those initial humble recording sessions in Bow, East London, they’ve notched up more than three billion streams, selling more than 210,000 tickets for their live shows. But alongside this, it’s been a story of growth, maturity, and kinship.
2021’s Let’s Just Say The World Ended A Week From Now, What Would You Do? pushed the duo as far as they could go. Laden with unbelievable features – including walk-on roles from Pink Sweats, Griff, Niki, and R&B titan Khalid – it reinforced their global stature.
HONNE released OUCH through their own Smile More Recordings and for their radically ambitious independent era, HONNE have removed the gloss to show the emotions underneath – little wonder, then, their name means “true feelings” in Japanese.
Don’t miss your chance to share the feels with HONNE when they head to Sydney’s Roundhouse and Melbourne’s Forum in March 2025. Tickets are available from 10am local Thursday 19 December via secretsounds.com.

SELFISH SONS Celebrated new EP with Pop-Up Event
This past weekend, alt-rock trio Selfish Sons celebrated the release of their highly anticipated new EP, What a Beautiful Waste of Time, with an intimate pop-up event at Backdock Arts in Brisbane. Marking their return to Australian soil after a year in the United States, the event welcomed over 100 fans throughout the day for a unique and personal experience that combined music, creativity, and connection.
The event was a feast for the senses, featuring custom live screen printing by Slosh Screen-printing. Fans had the chance to create personalised pieces with exclusive designs inspired by the EP, making each item a one-of-a-kind keepsake. The creative energy of the day continued with curated nail art from Chloe of Co.Nails Brisbane, who delighted attendees with bespoke designs that brought the EP’s aesthetic to life. Adding to the exclusivity, limited-edition merchandise was available, giving fans the opportunity to take home something truly special to commemorate the day.
To keep spirits high, drinks were provided by Toby’s Estate and Red Bull. The refreshments complemented the vibrant atmosphere, ensuring fans could fully immerse themselves in the celebration. The band also treated attendees to a live performance, playing tracks from the new EP, including Get Me Down, Backseat Drive, and Sentimental (What You Want). The moment became even more magical when fans began singing along to the freshly released songs, creating an electrifying connection between the band and their audience.
The event wasn’t just about the music, it was about community. Selfish Sons took time to meet with fans, share stories, and hear their thoughts on the new record. “We’ve spent the last year in the States, so being back home and sharing this moment with our fans in Brisbane was so special,” said the boys. “Hearing everyone sing along to tracks we just released was surreal. This event wasn’t just about the music, it was about connecting with everyone who has been part of our journey.”
The release of What a Beautiful Waste of Time marks a significant moment in Selfish Sons’ career, showcasing their growth as artists and their ability to blend raw emotion with anthemic melodies. The EP explores themes of self-discovery, relationships, and the messy beauty of life, resonating deeply with their ever-growing fanbase.

ALOE BLACC ‘Stand Together’ (Album out Feb 28)
Grammy-nominated and multi-platinum artist Aloe Blacc has officially announced his new album ‘Stand Together’ – due Friday, February 28, 2025, through Grand Scheme Productions via Vydia. The LP was completed in partnership with the philanthropic community of the same name, whose work inspired the LP. Pre-order HERE.
To celebrate the announcement of the new project, Aloe debuted the lead single ‘Don’t Go Alone’ on Good Morning America. ‘Stand Together’ is a genre-spanning collection of 12 tracks that blend his signature soulful sound with a powerful message of unity, empathy, and resilience. Every song on the album is paired with a philanthropic cause, showcasing Aloe’s ongoing, deep commitment to using music as a catalyst for social change. From reimagining Marvin Gaye’s iconic ‘What’s Going On’ to reflecting on the transformative power of mentorship, ‘Stand Together’ weaves universal themes of hope, collaboration, and community.
The lead single, ‘Don’t Go Alone’, is an anthem inspired by the African proverb, “If you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go far, go together.” The song’s reflective lyrics and uplifting rhythm encourage community to lean on one another during life’s challenges. This powerful message aligns with and was inspired by the mission of The Phoenix, a Stand Together community partner and national sober active community that provides free, active, and meaningful programming to anyone impacted by substance use. By building connections through shared experiences and mutual encouragement, The Phoenix harnesses the innate power of community and belonging as a long-term recovery model, so members can reach their full potential. This strong, sober-supportive community empowers individuals in recovery to be proud of who they are —a message echoed in Aloe Blacc’s stirring anthem.
“This is the perfect song to lead this project because it reminds us of the power of connection and community,” says Aloe Blacc. “This album is a celebration of what we can achieve when we come together to support one another. Whether it’s in our relationships or as a society, we’re stronger and better when we stand together.”
‘Stand Together’ is an immaculate demonstration of an artist using his art to inspire collaboration and positive change and showcases Aloe’s unparalleled ability to blend meaningful storytelling with genre-defying music. The album, which spans pop, R&B, and soul, features collaborations with acclaimed producers such as Stargate, Oak Felder, DJ Khalil and Hunter Hayes, all while maintaining a steadfast focus on themes of openness, empowerment, and social change. This message rings true to the album’s namesake, Stand Together, a philanthropic community that works to tackle the root causes of our country’s biggest problems.
Elsewhere on the album, Aloe’s deeply personal ‘Daddy Told Me So’ reflects on the lessons passed from one generation to the next, while ‘Not on My Watch’ honours the teachings of the late Harry Belafonte, advocating for vigilance and peace in the fight for justice. Other standout tracks include a reimagining of Marvin Gaye’s iconic ‘What’s Going On’, examining societal divisions and calling for collective reflection; ‘Grow Together’, a celebration of urban farming and community-building inspired by organizations like Bonton Farms; and ‘One Good Thing’, co-written with Hunter Hayes and inspired by a powerful story from Harry Belafonte about finding common ground to create meaningful change.

THE CRYSTAL SHIP announce surprise Espy Bar show
Following on from their inaugural Wednesday residency at Melbourne’s iconic Cherry Bar in November, The Crystal Ship have announced that they will be continuing to kick into summer with an unmissable show at another Melbourne music institution: The Espy.
The band’s upcoming show on December 21st comes directly off the back of The Crystal Ship’s stand out performance of their song ‘Desert Child’ as part of ALWAYS LIVE’s ‘Garage Band’ Festival, held in Fed Square. Capturing the fervent energy of the band and their music, this recent run of shows has proven their staying potential.
The Crystal Ship’s upcoming show at The Espy will be the final chance music lovers will have to see the band perform this year, before they retreat for the summer, where they will lock themselves away for the first part of 2025 to record their much-anticipated debut release.
The four-piece group has been developing their sound upon a bed of shared influences that range from the riff-heavy classic notes of The Beatles, Pink Floyd and Led Zeppelin; through to the songwriting depth of artists including Jeff Buckley and Jim Morrison. This has seen them amass a rapidly expanding devout following before ever releasing any music. Building on such influences that have prided themselves on stepping outside the box, The Crystal Ship have developed a sound that gleefully barrels through psychedelic fever dreams, all the way into moments of pure euphoria.

CIVILIANS Announces New Strategic Partnership with Canadian Label Ishkōdé Records.
Australian independent label Civilians is proud to announce a new label services partnership with the Canadian-based label Ishkōdé Records. This exciting collaboration underscores both labels’ shared commitment to amplifying Indigenous voices through music.
Ishkōdé Records, an Indigenous, women-owned record label, is home to some of the most exciting and innovative artists in Canada. With a focus on showcasing Indigenous talent from a variety of genres, Ishkōdé Records has built a distinguished reputation as a platform for dynamic voices within contemporary music.
Civilians, an Australian label known for its support of emerging and established artists, has long worked within the Indigenous space, helping amplify the sounds and stories of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander artists such as Emma Donovan and King Stingray. This new partnership with Ishkōdé Records is a natural extension of their ongoing commitment to championing Indigenous music, culture, and narratives, and reflects both labels’ belief in the power of music as a vehicle for social change and cultural expression.
“We are so proud to be partnering with Ishkōdé Records, a label that has such a strong and influential presence in Indigenous music,” said Civilians Co Managing Director, Leigh Gruppetta. “Their roster of talented artists, who are shaping and redefining the future of Indigenous music, aligns well with our core values as a label. This partnership feels like a natural fit, and we’re excited to help bring these incredible artists to even broader audiences here in Australia.”
To kick off this new partnership, Civilians is delighted to highlight three exceptional Ishkōdé artists who will be performing at the iconic Woodford Folk Festival (Dec 28 – Jan 1) this year: Aysanabee, Amanda Rheaume, and Digging Roots.

With an unforgettable voice, his performances are a powerful reflection of his journey as an Indigenous artist.
• Amanda Rheaume is an award winning singer-songwriter with a slightly gritty and deeply personal Americana sound. A Citizen of the Métis Nation, and an active and proud member of the 2SLGBTQ+ community, Rheaume’s music is indeed from the heart, and the land.
• Digging Roots breathes life into songs from their land, Turtle Island, to raise their voices in solidarity with a global chorus of Indigenous artists, activists and change-makers. For over a decade, two-time JUNO Award winners Digging Roots have travelled the world with a joyful message of resistance, celebrating Anishinaabe and Onkwehón:we traditions of round dance and interconnectedness.

GYPSY PISTOLEROS ’Shadow Walker’ (Single)
‘Shadow Walker,’ the second single from Gypsy Pistoleros’ forthcoming album Church of the Pistoleros, is a poignant tale of humanity’s destruction of nature, told through the eyes of an immortal Changeling. With ageless wisdom and a disdain for mankind’s environmental sins, the Changeling narrates an eternal journey through shadows, reflecting on humanity’s fleeting existence and its impact on the Earth.

Church of the Pistoleros is a rallying cry for society’s outcasts, celebrating the unique, strange, and misunderstood. Gypsy Pistoleros’ blend of glam punk, Latin flair, emo, and operatic grandeur into a genre-defying sound.
Produced by Dave Draper at Old Cider Press Studios, the record is described as a “total monster” and a potential saviour of rock music.
Known as renegade glam-punk rockers, Gypsy Pistoleros are celebrated for their eclectic, unorthodox style. Critics praise their music as “unique,” “sheer escapism.” The band invites fans to join the “Church of the Pistoleros,” a movement for the bold, unconventional, and outcast. Their music defies labels and embraces individuality, making them a standout in the present rock world.
ABOUT GYPSY PISTOLEROS
Gypsy Pistoleros are no strangers to the rock scene. Since their formation, they have shared stages with icons such as The Ramones, Motörhead, L.A. Guns, Faster Pussycat, Poison, Ratt, ZZ Top, Papa roach and Twisted Sister, amongst many others, building a devoted following in the U.S. and U.K. alike. The band, led by Gypsy Lee Pistolero, is known for their fiery live performances and eclectic mix of sounds, which combine the raw edge of punk rock with Latin rhythms and glam rock theatrics.
In 2020, Gypsy Lee Pistolero returned to the music world after a hiatus, bringing a matured yet electrifying energy to the stage. With two successful albums under their belt since their comeback, the band is now poised to make their biggest impact yet with Welcome to the Church of the Pistoleros. To celebrate the release, Gypsy Pistoleros will be embarking on their ‘Welcome to the Church of the Pistoleros’ UK Tour 2025. Fans can catch their electrifying live shows at venues across the country!
LUKE DEAN ‘Ready Set Go’ (EP)
Inspired by 90s garage and house, his “Ready Set Go” EP is out now.
Luke Dean makes his debut on Enzo Siragusa’s LOCUS imprint with his “Ready Set Go” EP.
Landing December 13th on LOCUS, Luke Dean’s “Ready Set Go” EP will bookend what has been a pivotal year for the young producer and lay the foundations for 2025 – a year that already promises to cultivate significant growth and support from the scene’s key players.
Infused with groove at every level, Luke’s inimitable production style is his calling card and it’s this original sound that has captured the attention of FUSE’s Enzo Siragusa in a way that will see Luke Dean become a firm fixture of London’s prestigious underground party moving into next year. From the bouncy, tongue-in-cheek vibes of “Ready Set Go” to the garage-inspired “Baby’s On The Decks”, the EP is an unfiltered expression of Luke’s broad taste in underground music.
“I’m super exited to be making my debut on LOCUS. Over the past six months I’ve built a great relationship with the team there, and especially Enzo who’s really been guiding me and giving me a lot of support and advice on music in general.” – Luke Dean
The four track continues with “Pump It!” – a rolling speaker-shaker that is laden with vocal samples, deep house undertones, and delivered with Luke’s trademark energy. Rounding off the release, “Rock Wid Me” throws in some 90s hip-hop inspired samples and ramps up the pace to showcase a funkier side to his productions.
“The EP is heavily inspired by 90s garage house and really pushes the new sound I’m now creating inspired by the likes of Grant Nelson, MJ Cole, and Garrett David. Some of the tracks on the EP, such as ‘Rock Wid Me’ and ‘Ready Set Go’ were created nearly two years ago; ‘Pump It!’ and ‘Baby’s On The Decks’ are the more recent creations and I’m super happy that they have all finally found the right home!” – Luke Dean
Individually, the tracks demonstrate an innate understanding of how energy, groove, and a little magic can all be deployed in the right combination to keep any dancefloor moving. Collectively, the EP lays the foundations for a producer who is carving his own niche in a scene that values originality and a level of production that pushes things forward creatively.
“I’m really proud of this EP as a body of work – each track has its own individual style, taking you on a slightly different journey, yet all coming together to work very nicely as an EP. The production process felt very organic – the general ideas behind each track were there from the start, but I have been plucking away to get the details right and making sure each track is exactly how I want it to sound in and out of the club.” – Luke Dean
Signing off 2024 on tour across Manchester, London, Dublin, Rotterdam and more, Luke will be seeing in the new year in Barcelona on the line-up for Eastenderz’ exclusive NYE party – a fitting start to what is likely to be his busiest year yet.

MITCH TAMBO & VOICE OF LELE ‘Amazing Grace’ (Single)
Australian World Music Star, Mitch Tambo, and rising West-Papuan singer-songwriter, Voice of Lele, have teamed up for their duet of Christmas favourite Amazing Grace. For Mitch and Lele, Christmas is all about family, love, and community – values that shine through in their rendition of Amazing Grace. “I love Christmas – it’s such a beautiful and fun time of year,” says Mitch. “And what better way to celebrate than through music.”
Lele, a huge fan of the festive season, adds, “Christmas is my favourite holiday. So, sharing the spirit of the season through this song is something really special to me.”
The singers say including both English and Gamilaraay in the song gives it an extra sprinkle of holiday magic. “Amazing Grace is such a spiritual song and singing it in Gamilaraay just adds to that connection,” Mitch says. “It’s a way of sharing my culture, especially during a time when family and tradition are so important.”
Lele echoes the sentiment saying, “It’s a song with such a deep message about love and grace, and I think Mitch and I captured that perfectly.”
As for taking to the Carols by Candlelight stage at Melbourne’s Sidney Myer Music Bowl on Christmas Eve, Mitch says performing Amazing Grace live together will be a special moment for the pair. “We really love working together and always bring out the best in each other,” says the entertainer.
“It’s all about sharing joy, love and the spirit of the holidays with everyone,” adds Lele. “I can’t wait.”
The couple are next set to release another collaboration in January with a reimagining of an Australian all-time favourite.
Amazing Grace by Mitch Tambo and Voice of Lele is available on all streaming platforms. Carols by Candlelight will air on Christmas Eve on the Nine Network.

TEMPESST ANNOUNCE ‘HOMECOMING’ AUSTRALIAN TOUR
Tempesst, the London-based band made up of twin brothers Toma (vocals & guitar) and Andy Banjanin (drums), Blake Misipeka (bass) and Eric Weber (guitar) are excited to announce their highly anticipated 2025 Australian tour, set to kick off on January 30th in Brisbane. The tour will bring the band’s signature electrifying performances to Brisbane, Melbourne and Sydney.
Fans can expect an unforgettable night of live music, with Tempesst performing new tracks from their latest album, Forbidden Fruit, alongside fan favourites from their earlier albums Must Be a Dream and Prisoner of Desire.
“We’ve always had a special connection with our Australian fans, and we’re beyond excited to finally bring our live show back home,” says frontman Toma Banjanin. “It’s been a long time coming and we can’t wait to see you all in January.”
Twin brothers Toma and Andy Banjanin and their school friend Blake Misipeka moved from the Sunshine Coast, QLD, to London, where they joined forces with Swiss-American guitarist Eric Weber, determined to make their mark on the London music scene.
In 2020, Tempesst released their debut LP Must Be a Dream, receiving rave reviews from major outlets such as NME, DIY, The Line of Best Fit, Earmilk, and The FT. The album garnered airplay on BBC Radio 1, BBC Radio 6, and BBC Radio London, leading them to be recognized as a BBC Future Artist by Jack Saunders. The album has since streamed millions of times worldwide.
In 2023, Tempesst returned with Prisoner of Desire, a follow-up that earned critical praise with feature coverage in Rolling Stone, Clash, Dork, and The Line of Best Fit. The Prisoner of Desire tour, their largest to date, included a landmark performance at London’s Islington Assembly Hall.
Their third album, Forbidden Fruit, was released last month on the back of a UK/IE support tour with JET, and the band celebrated the release with a sold-out in-store show at London’s Rough Trade East.

EMILY WURRAMARA ANNOUNCES NARA ENCORE TOUR DATES
Following back-to-back wins at the ARIA Awards (Best Adult Contemporary Album – NARA) and the J Awards (rage & triple j Film Clip of the Year – ”Lordy Lordy‘) — the former of which officially adds her to the history books as the first Indigenous woman to ever win in this category since the awards inception in 1987 — internationally lauded lutruwita/Tasmania-based artist, activist, author and proud Warnindhilyagwa woman hailing from Groote Eylandt & Milyakburra/Bickerton Island EMILY WURRAMARA (she/her) today shares a round of encore album tour dates in February and March 2025 across so-called VIC, WA, SA, NSW and ACT in support of her multi-award-winning album NARA (out now via ABC Music).
The new dates celebrate a successful initial album tour which included multiple sold out shows, featuring headline gigs across Dharawal Country (Wollongong), Ngunnawal Country (Canberra) and Naarm/Melbourne – the acclaimed artists’ first headline there in 9 years – as well as festival appearances at Treaty Day Out, WOMADelaide, Perth Festival and Riverboats.
Tickets for Emily Wurramara’s encore NARA album tour are available for purchase HERE – all dates below. NARA is out now via ABC Music – stream/purchase HERE.
Of her historic win, which follows a full-circle moment at this year’s ARIAs where Emily Wurramara presented Best Blues & Roots Album — the award her 2018 debut album Milyakburra was previously nominated for — Wurramara says: “I [want] to say how honoured I am to be the first Indigenous woman to win the Best Adult Contemporary Album Award ever in ARIA history. I’d just like to acknowledge all the Elders and all the mob who came here in order for me to be here. NARA is a big album for me, and I am so so honoured to be receiving this nod and recognition – big love, and thanks everyone for the support”
Dubbed one “of the country’s greatest voices” (Double J), Emily Wurramara’s live shows are at once intimate and brimming with an overwhelming sense of community, packed with full-chested sing-alongs, heartfelt stories, raw honesty and laughter. Gracing the stage once again in 2025, the encore dates will see her playing in varying formats that showcase her incredible skill and sleek melodies, taking the audience along with her on a profound journey of growth and healing.
Emily Wurramara – ‘STFAFM’ ft. Arringarri
Steeped in love for community, NARA was co-produced by Wurramara and James Mangohig (A.B. Original, Daniel Johns), recorded at Boat Ramp Studios on Larrakia Country and features triple j-added singles ‘STFAFM’ ft. Arringarri, ‘Lordy Lordy’ ft. Tasman Keith, as well as ‘Magic Woman Dancing‘ — the enchanting video for which scored a nomination at the NIMAs — & ‘Midnight Blues‘; with additional features from Lisa Mitchell and Zeppelin Hamilton (Velvet Trip). A self-described “rebirth” album titled for the Anindilyakwa word meaning “nothing”, NARA — debuting at #17 on ARIA’s Aus Albums Chart, #9 on the Digital Albums chart, and #6 on the AIR Albums Chart, also longlisted for the Australian Music Prize — has attracted high praise from musicians, actors, comedians and media figures alike from The Wiggles to Nicky Winmar, Barkaa to Ben Lee, Fanny Lumsden, Sean Millis and many more. The album beckons its listeners through mystical portals on a varicoloured journey of growth, that sees Emily Wurramara tracing intense highs and lows – from winning accolades and taking her music across the world, losing her house in a fire, giving birth to her daughter and struggling with her mental health – to her ultimate arrival at peace in the knowledge that “It was when I had nothing, I realised I had everything” – drawing glowing reviews from Rolling Stone, The Age, The Australian, Beat Magazine, The Big Issue, The AU Review and support via The Guardian, The Brag Media (Record of the Week), Junkee, SBS Living Black with Karla Grant, ABC News, ARIA Amplified, NITV, Daily Telegraph, Witchology Magazine UK and was added at Double J (who also named it 12th best album of the year) and named Feature across 8 community radio stations with strong DSP support. Rollicking mental health anthem and current single ‘STFAFM’ features Wurramara’s little brother — spoken word poet Arringarri in his musical debut — who joined her onstage for the first time during the album’s initial tour run.
Emily Wurramara’s music – from her Black Smoke EP (2016), debut album Milyakburra (2018), to the Ayarra Emeba (Calm Songs) EP (2022) – is a masterful showcase of her breath-taking talents as a songwriter, storyteller and performer who is known for her ability to evoke feeling through intimacy and appreciation of life’s subtleties, written and sung in both English and Anindilyakwa language. She has built a striking, refined live reputation via sold-out headline shows, appearances at prestige venues like the Sydney Opera House, and countless festivals & events nationally including A Festival Called Panama, Groovin The Moo, RISING, Bluesfest, Port Fairy Folk Festival, Sydney Festival, YABUN Festival, The Gum Ball, Wild Village Festival, Badayijeng Ninggoowoong-Woorr Festival, BlakYard Picnic, Queenscliffe Music Festival and many more including the Protect Our Oceans benefit series, also having performed at the Australian High Commission in Papua New Guinea, TEDx and with the Queensland Orchestra, supported the likes of Uncle Archie Roach, Mavis Staples, Missy Higgins, Baker Boy, Rob Thomas, The Cat Empire, ICEHOUSE, Jack Johnson, Midnight Oil, and John Farnham, and internationally at Folk Alliance International (Turtle Island/USA & Canada) & National Sawdust (New York, Turtle Island/USA) with appearances across Sweden, France, and beyond.
Wurramara collaborated this year with PNAU via a highly-praised feature ‘So High‘ on their Hyperbolic album alongside names like Troye Sivan, Ladyhawke, Khalid and Bebe Rexha, also appearing on previous collabs with Reuben James (Tory Kelly, Sam Smith), Grammy Award-winning producer Q million, Emma Donovan, Kee’ahn, Fred Leone, DRMNGNOW, Bumpy and more on heartfelt tribute ‘Forever 15‘, JK-47, Kutcha Edwards, The Wiggles (on ARIA-winning Re:Wiggled! as well as Emma! 2), Tibetan musician & activist Tenzin Choegyal, Mereani Masani (PNG) and many more, and on Bad//Dreems’ triple j Like A Version alongside Peter Garrett (Midnight Oil) and members of Mambali (which placed in the station’s Hottest 100) before making her own debut on the acclaimed segment this year, covering Hozier’s ‘Too Sweet‘.
