CASH SAVAGE AND THE LAST DRINKS TAKE OVER ESTONIAN HOUSE THIS WEEKEND
Cash Savage, at the helm of ARIA nominees Cash Savage and the Last Drinks, one of the stalwarts of Melbourne’s music scene, this week announced a new gig. Rather, a new series of gigs. A new type of music event altogether. Savage and her band’s manager, Nick Finch (Graveyard Train, Blake Scott) have designed a two-day celebration in which the band itself will take over a venue – Brunswick’s beloved Estonian House – and run everything themselves (as far as possible), to fight against the current trend towards revenue being siphoned out of the music scene.
“We’re all so jack of the way big business has been steadily creeping its way into the arts and entertainment industry,” says Savage. “These days you buy a ticket to see a band you love, and your booking fee goes to some company whose majority shareholders have been tied to weapons, climate catastrophe and human rights abuses. Not to mention the bank’s transaction fee every time you buy a drink at the bar.”
The line-up itself showcases the talents of the Last Drinks themselves, which conveniently creates a curation of some of Melbourne’s best acts.
“Every band on the line-up includes a member of the Last Drinks,” Savage explains. “Every band is family.”
As well as Cash Savage & Last Drinks, the line-up includes Our Carlson, Uncle Kutcha Edwards, Georgia Knight, Kate Alexander, Howl At The Moon, Real Sunnies, Joshua Seymour, Thomy Sloane & Lucy Waldron and Rolling Blackouts DJs.
In an effort to direct the profits where they should go, the band have managed this gig from the ground up. “My uncle once explained to me that he had his farm laser-levelled so that every single raindrop would stay on the farm, not a drop of water ever left. This gig is like that: it’s DIY. The band members will be working at the bar and mopping the floors. My mum and dad are coming to collect the empty cans for the recycling deposit. Booking fees go to charities. All the profits will go to musicians. We will do everything we can not to fund the bad guys and we’ll encourage cash payments to leave the banks out of it.”
Estonian House Brunswick is a non-profit community venue and an incredible space to watch a gig. Drinks will be honest prices and cheaper with cash.
Tickets will be available for Friday night or Saturday arvo, or a discounted two-day pass. There will be discount tickets available for cash at Record Paradise in Brunswick and Poison City Records in Preston, and kids under 12 are free entry on Saturday.
Screw the banks, screw Big Business. All profits go to musicians, as it should be. Every drop of water stays on the farm.

RUDELY INTERRUPTED ‘Christine’ (Single)
Rudely Interrupted issue “Christine” the tender new single from their upcoming 3rd full-length album Emergency, due out on September through Cheersquad Records and Tapes. On “Christine” (out now!) Rudely interrupted exercise their dreamy, sweet-toothed pop rock jangle, sound tracking the flush of a first-time love. The band’s co-founder Rohan Brooks considers “Christine”, “a song about your first love when all the hormones are firing, you feel giddy and your head just can’t keep up with the emotions, they say you never forget your first love, hey…”

Rudely Interrupted have become trailblazers in the differently abled arts space, creating awareness and opening doors for other acts in their community to embrace their uniqueness. “We’re here to help change the landscape for artists with disability, we can’t hide our disability, so we go in loud and proud. We know many who have and do hide their challenges if they can. Some are coming out with their story, and we feel like we’re the one of the artists who’ve helped pave the way for that to happen.”
Having overcome challenges in their 16-year existence, the gestation of their prophetically titled 3rd album Emergency delivered a test the band hadn’t seen coming. In 2018, Rohan Brooks was struck down with a serious brain aneurysm that left him in hospital for a year and with severe memory loss as a result. Undeterred, Brooks and his co-writer Rory Burnside pressed on writing songs for the album. “We’ve always found our stride when we write”, Brooks explains. “It’s an interesting process sometimes, writing with Rory who has Aspergers and was born without eyes, also lives with perfect and absolute pitch, (and me with my memory loss) it can make for some interesting subjects and musical experiences together.”
The forthcoming album Emergency is loaded with the breezy melodic pop rock that has won Rudely Interrupted fans and international acclaim, with even more assured delivery and experimentation. “There’s a wealth of experience behind us”, Brooks explains, “some of these songs are pretty different for us, we wanted to branch out a little further with some of our sounds but still keep the essence of the band in there somewhere.”
Rudely Interrupted “Christine” is out now through Cheersquad Records & Tapes
HUSSY HICKS ‘He Knows’ (Single)
The Hussy Hicks are excited to announce the release of their latest single, ‘He Knows’, from their chart-topping album ‘Swimming in Uncertainty’. The song delves into the familiar archetype of the know-it-all, capturing the frustration and irony of dealing with someone who insists they have all the answers. A storyline that is especially poignant in 2024’s critical global election atmosphere. As Time Magazine’s Koh Ewe highlights, 2024 is a year when decisions carry weight like never before, with nearly half the world’s population heading to the polls.
In a time marked by political upheavals and widespread uncertainty, ‘He Knows’ emerges as a poignant reflection on the global state of affairs. The Hussy Hicks tap into this sentiment, echoing the collective anxiety and the ironic realisation that the more we know, the more we are aware of what we don’t know. SMART LINK
Fans of harmonies, twangy guitars, and dramatic key changes will find ‘He Knows’ particularly persuasive. The track features a remarkable use of modulation that adds a dynamic layer oftension and release as the song progresses. The track composition draws from the rich traditions of country music, a genre that Leesa grew up with and continues to influence her work.
“I absolutely adore the classic country key-change (thank you Harper Valley PTA) so decided this little song should have three of them” said Leesa
With each modulation the song grows in anticipation, tension and intensity until it ends with an abrupt explosive finish, lyrically declaring ‘I know that I don’t know!’ in keeping with the theme of the whole album Swimming in Uncertainty.
The Hussy Hicks most recent album Swimming in Uncertainty, from which this track comes, has made a spectacular debut, securing the #1 spot on the ARIA Jazz and Blues Charts and #16 on the ARIA Album Charts. It has also clinched the #1 position on the AIR Charts, and debuted on the Australian Blues & RootsAirplay Charts in March at #3. This success comes without the aid of mainstream streaming services, a bold move that has clearly resonated with fans. The album showcases a blend of blues and southern rock, each track layered with emotional depth and musical complexity. Highlights include ‘Fool on the Hill‘ and ‘Light a Candle‘, the first tracks to be released on streaming platforms, and other gems like ‘Sundial‘, ‘Ain’t it a Shame’ and ‘He Knows’ that demonstrate the band’s versatile and heartfelt storytelling.
The album is available for purchase in both physical and digital formats directly from the band, with a unique approach to its release. Fans eager for new music have overwhelmingly chosen to buy directly rather than wait for monthly single releases on streaming services.

VAN WALKER ‘Winter’s Last Song’ (Single)
Van Walker is a prolific and celebrated Tasmanian songwriter in the genres of folk, country and rock, a ‘cult figure’ in his adopted home of Victoria, with a vast catalogue of poetic lyric-driven material that explore a range of personal and social themes.
Winter’s Last Words is the first single taken from Van’s forthcoming album Healing Descent. It’s a much needed knees-up celebrating the thaw after surviving the descent. Whatever the lessons learnt during that long, frozen hardship, now it’s time to move forward and ‘don’t look back’. Inspired by the quote: “The strongest storms produce the best sailors,” often only in hardship do we find the wherewithal to rise to the occasion. Canadian studio owner and musical mensch Carl Jennings bass and backing vocals bring the sunshine to this track (and a little nod to Sly & The Family Stone).
The album was recorded in just four days during a break on a Canadian tour last year, Van took the opportunity to team up again with mate and multi-instrumentalist Chris Altmann to produce Healing Descent, due out on Cheersquad Records & Tapes on September 27, 2024.
Stay tuned for soon-to-be-announced news of Van’s upcoming album shows. Watch the accompanying video for single Winter’s Last Song.
Single Winter’s Last Words is out on all streaming platforms now. Album Healing Descent is out September 27, 2024, via Cheersquad Records & Tapes.

GOOD CORN LIQUOR ‘Negotiation’s With A Shadow’ (Single)
Fighting a few vices over the years, Murph wrote this song about these and how they can ultimately lead to self destruction if we don’t keep ourselves in check. From Good Corn Liquor’s third studio EP, “Negotiation’s With A Shadow” was originally penned for a rock and roll act that Murph fronted but after the band dissolved Negotiation’s With A Shadow was adapted to fit Good Corn Liquor’s signature sound. STREAM HERE
The flat out nature of the song is a testament to the rock and punk influences of GCL’s childhood along with their country and bluegrass maturity that has developed over a decade of playing live together. Everyone has a shadow and everyone has a vice. Check in with each other and don’t just chalk it up to the idea, “That’s just how it is”. Take the chance, make the change and ask for help if you need it.
Good Corn Liquor are a country, bluegrass & blues band hailing from Gunnedah NSW. They have performed at festivals such as Dashville Skyline, BMUP, Nimbin Roots, Butter Factory Blues and Roots, Sydney Blues & Roots, Newcastle Blues & Roots, Friends & Relatives as well as at their own flagship event, CORNFEST! In January 2024 the band played their biggest show to date at Tamworth Country Music with over 300 tickets sold. Good Corn Liquor’s love for music and passion for playing is infectious, entertaining, and heartfelt and will always leave you wanting more!

THE BEATNIK PREACHERS ’Trouble in the Bubble’ (Single)
In their 4th release from the upcoming 2nd album (G.A.S.), the Beatnik Preachers have produced their most hip-hop-jazz track thus far. Trouble in the Bubble explores the issue of caring for our planet in a world that puts just about everything else first.
“What we need is some RULES” How else do we get all the nations on Earth to agree on a plan moving forward?
As with previous releases the Beatnik Preachers manage to tackle difficult societal issues whilst still having the listener shake their butts – Trouble in the Bubble is no exception. The track opens with a tough, funky drum and bass groove; Preachers’ style. Dominated by bass (Jack Smythe) & drums (Miles Henry) Trouble in the Bubble provides a tough & danceable groove.
On top are the gospel vocals of Katrina B, se[ng up the vibe as ToK investigates why the norms of modern society are in conflict with the Earth. Sparse additions of piano (Joel Louis) and horns (Anton Delecca & ToK) provide for a brooding alternative focus before Harmon-muted trumpet interweaves to announce the end of the track.
Still blending the jazz elements with immaculate grooves the Beatnik Preachers have a new tune that promises to expand what “Jazz” is, and can be in the 2020s. www.beatnikpreachers.au

THE STEMS RELEASE NEW LIVE ALBUM THE STEMS OFFICIAL LIVE 40th ANNIVERSARY NATIONAL TOUR KICKS OFF AUGUST 23
THE STEMS epitomized 80’s indie rock, giving it a wider currency. They are one of only a handful of bands (among them the Hoodoo Gurus and The Sunnyboys) that cracked the mainstream charts with an indie approach in the 80’s
The legendary Western Australian band turn 40 this year and are celebrating with the release of an official live album. Having forged a reputation for their electrifying and powerful live shows throughout Australia and Europe, The Stems live shows have long been a favourite among boot-leggers, with many unofficial live recordings surfacing over the years. To coincide with their 40th Anniversary tour, The Stems’ ‘Official Live Recording’ is out today through local label Cheersquad Records & Tapes and FOLC Records in Spain.
On November 11, 2017, during the 3rd of a highly successful 6 show national tour, celebrating the 30th anniversary since the release of their debut album, ‘At First Sight, Violets are Blue’, original members Dom Mariani, Julian Matthews and Dave Shaw, bolstered by Ashley Naylor (Even, Paul Kelly, The Church) and Davey Lane (You Am I) took to the stage at the legendary Gov Hotel in Adelaide for what was to be a scintillating live set, that unbeknown to the band was being recorded.
How it happened;
Enter Vic Conrad, leader of Adelaide band The Garden Path, one of the supports for the show. Vic’s connection to The Stems goes way back to the 1980s when the band slept on his floor one early tour! Vic had arranged for a multitrack recording of his own band that evening. With the tour done and dusted and a few months later, Vic contacted Dom, to tell him that he had a multi-track recording of The Stems’ performance from that concert also. Vic generously sent the recording to Dom, who then promptly forgot about it… until a recent conversation with Julian ignited the idea of a live album. Unsure of what it sounded like, they decided to check out Vic’s multi-tracks and were pleasantly surprised by what they heard.
Dom Mariani:
“The band is in full flight and rocking. If we knew it was being recorded, we probably wouldn’t have been so uninhibited. We let it all hang out, warts and all.”
‘The Stems Official Recording’ captures the band in a powerful performance proving they deserve their reputation as one of Australia’s best live bands. Out now through Cheersquad Records & Tapes and FOLC Records in Spain.

færy ‘anam cara’ (Single) ‘Rising’ (Album out October 31)
Alt-pop artist færy returns today with “anam cara” the third single from her forthcoming debut album rising, which is set for release on Thursday 31 October 2024. PRE-ORDER ALBUM
Under her music moniker færy, Australian artist, actor, writer and filmmaker Liana Cornell unveils this latest taste of her forthcoming album, which follows debut single “blýth” which dropped in 2023 and “Ostara” earlier this year.
“anam cara” is a Gaelic phrase that describes the idea of a soul friend, considered by ancient Celts as an essential part of spiritual development. According to St Brigid of Kildare, patron Saint of Ireland “A person without a soul friend is like a body without a head”. In the case of færy’s new single, “anam cara” refers to the relationship and subsequent love of the self.
“anam cara is an offering of the deepest love one can feel, the love of the self” said Cornell of the track. “I wrote this song to start a conversation about how sexy self-love can be, how it can spill onto others, and how the romantic love so many of us strive for is ever-present within our own hearts.”
“We love others only as deeply as we can love ourselves, so to feel the depth we each desire we must first meet that level within ourselves. An ocean of love is available to us deeply within always, in all ways.”
Recorded in Cornwall, United Kingdom with London-based writer/producer Will Vaughan (Oliver Tree, Dorian Electra, KSI, Mae Muller), the sweet sounding single uses frequency 639 Hz, which is associated with harmonious relationships, connection, heals trauma and the heart. With whispery, ethereal vocals over a rolling composition that includes the delicate sounds of nature, “anam cara” is grounding, mellow and light in all the best ways.
Hailing from Byron Bay, Liana Cornell is an established actor, writer, filmmaker, and environmentalist, known for her roles in series such as Britannia, Wolf Creek, House of Hancock, Love Child, Schapelle and more. In 2021, she released the Refugia project and an accompanying documentary series, focusing on good environmental works undertaken by unsung, everyday heroes and celebrating communities and companies dedicated to nurturing nature. færy, her foray into music, is her new creative evolution. færy makes music that feels like it’s being pulled from deep within you—part untamed spirit, part mythological rebel. “anam cara” is the third single from færy’s debut album rising, slated for release on Thursday 31 October 2024.

DAN HOWLS ‘Low’ (Single)
Dan Howls are an award-winning Alt Blues/Rock band hailing from Walyalup/ Fremantle, Western Australia. Drawing influences from Tom Waits, Gary Clarke Jr, The Black Keys and Queens of the Stone Age, figurehead Dan, known for his powerful, illustrious voice and big bluesy guitar riffs, is backed by his band of almost a decade comprised of Julia Weller (vocals, guitar) Callum Adcock (bass), and Josh Cutler (drums).
Coming in fresh off winning WAM’s (West Australian Music) ‘Best Blues Act’ for 2023, Walyalup/ Fremantle-based alt-blues rocker Dan Howls is someone who “knows his way around a bluesy stomper” (Pilerats), announcing the release of the bands latest potent, stormy, stomper Low, out 23 August.
Since their inception, Dan Howls have become renowned for their gritty blues tones, authentic, unwavering energy, and engrossing live performances. Awarded a WAM ‘Blues Song of The Year’ and RTRFM’s ‘Album of The Week’ with their debut LP A Dime A Dozen (2018), and taking out WAM’s ‘Best Blues Act’ for 2023, the four-piece have gone from strength to strength, releasing a handful of phenomenal singles, including King Si, and most recent Bad Blood, in addition to sell-out headline shows internationally, captivating audiences at festivals such as Wave Rock Weekender, and Nannup Music Festival (even taking out their 2016 ‘emerging artist award’), and supporting the likes of Psychedelic Porn Crumpets and The Murlocs.
Kicking off with a sizzling riff soulfully plucked on an electric guitar, Low sonically crafts a rich landscape where growling guitars, rolling bass, and hearty drums thrive. Such as Dan’s gravelly voice contrasts yet compliments singer/ guitarist Julia Weller’s silky backing vocals, the steady-paced, atmospheric, somewhat eerie verses act as a calm before the storm against the explosive, high-energy of the track’s cracking breakdowns.
In this vein, Dan Howls explains, “This release was written about a time we were out in the desert at a festival, there was a giant storm rolling in, and we knew our whole camp and tent was about to be blown away. We started digging trenches around our little picnic spot, and that was about as much as we could do. We lost our whole tent that night. It’s really about accepting things, and not dwelling on things you can’t control, and changing the things that you can.”
Co-written by Dan, Julia, Callum Adcock (bass), Josh Cutler (drums), and Blake Hart, Low was recorded with and mixed by the legendary Mitch Mcdonald (The Love Junkies) at Black Box Retrieval Services in WA and mastered by Grammy Award-winning Australian mastering engineer William Bowden.
Low will be celebrated with a single launch at Mojo’s Bar, Walyalup/ Fremantle, on 13 September. More info can be found https://linktr.ee/danhowlsmusic

TIM WITHANO ‘Bondi Sand’ (Single)
Tim is an award-winning artist who has vast experience performing live playing his original music as well as playing the lead role in a theatre production dedicated to the music of James Taylor for a number of years.
Tim was signed to Herb Alpert’s publishing company Essex Music in Australia until his contract was bought by Warners Chappell. Tim is now a free agent and owns the copyright to all of his songs. Although Tim has had Top 10 success on the country charts in Australia with his acoustic band, “Strum”, his music as a solo artist covers a wide range of genres.
His actual name is Timo (he moved from Finland with his family when he was a toddler) and as long as he can remember he has had to tell everyone he meets that his name is Tim with an “o”. When it came to launching his solo career he decided that Tim Withano would be an appropriate stage name :).
Tim is very much a do-it-yourself guy. He plays guitars that he actually builds himself and records all of his songs in his home studio. Tim also produces his own videos. His videos for Bondi Sand and Bob Dylan and Me are on Youtube. Stream Bondi Sands HERE
WHISKEY JACK ‘Wild Card’ (Single out August 23)
With his gorgeous poetic imagery, calming delivery and endearing tones from the nylon string guitar, Whiskey Jack tells a story from the heart of Australiana in his new single ‘Wild Card’, out August 23.
It’s been a big year for Whiskey Jack, and with the success of his latest singles and second EP ‘Extra Luck’, he is setting himself up to be worth betting on. Ahead of his upcoming tour, Whiskey Jack has just come back from a week in Sydney, where he met and was mentored by Angus and Julia Stone as part of the Wild Turkey House of Music 101.
‘Wild Card’ is a softened and vintage-like take on the indie-folk genre, appealing to the nature of heartbreak and relationships cut short. With charming repetition, a whistling-infused refrain, and gambling imagery, this song is perfect for those lazy Sunday mornings and cozy rainy days.
Produced by Perth’s Dylan Ollivierre who also joins in on the piano, ‘Wild Card’ features beautiful cello, double bass and backing vocals performed by Amy Skellern and gracefully performed drums by Jack Seah.
Lyrically, this song explores how it feels to burn bright and bow out of a relationship without getting a proper farewell. His metaphorical approach echoes the elusive nature of a feeling and how difficult it can be to explain it literally. Whiskey Jack describes the meaning behind this song as:
“This song is about the highs and lows of going through things together, and being there for someone even while watching them repeat the same mistakes.”
From beneath the brim of a well-worn hat, Whiskey Jack plays his ‘Wild Card’, the new single out August 23. Catch him on tour throughout the end of August and September, details below.

THE VELVET CLUB “Space Between’ (EP)
Melbourne indie-rockers The Velvet Club release new EP Space Between. The latest project showcases the band’s signature blend of anthemic hooks and raw, introspective lyrics, marking a pivotal moment in their rapidly rising career. To celebrate, The Velvet Club is kicking off on a national tour this August and September, including their debut BIGSOUND appearance.
The Velvet Club, based in Melbourne/Naarm, has been steadily making their mark on the Australian indie-rock scene. Since their formation, the band has earned a reputation for their raw live shows, where they smoothly mix high-energy performances with intimate, emotional moments. Over the past few years, they’ve transformed from a promising local act into a formidable presence on the national stage, playing everywhere from backyard gigs to some of Australia’s most iconic festival stages.
The Velvet Club’s journey through 2023 and 2024 has been nothing short of impressive. Already this year the four-piece outfit headlined an 8-date Australian tour, including Melbourne’s sold-out hometown show. They supported Louis Tomlinson at the Sidney Myer Music Bowl, and recent singles have been championed by triple j; earning the coveted ABC News Breakfast spotlight in collaboration with triple j Unearthed.
Ever on the ascent, the band has also delivered standout performances at Splendour in the Grass and on three national support tours, alongside acts like DICE, Ra Ra Viper, and The Rions. Earlier this month they supported Rum Jungle at all VIC dates of their Chauffeur Regional Australian Tour. Their relentless drive and powerful live shows have solidified their reputation as one of Australia’s most promising indie-rock bands.
Together with existing fan-favourites, the new project features three new tracks for listeners to sink their teeth into. Energetic new thrasher, the opening track, Headwind accompanies the swelling and swirling Bones, and focus track One Day – “an ode to overthinking and a reminder to not let it take a hold of you” says frontman AJ Tilyard.
Space Between is OUT NOW.

THE CROOKED FIDDLE BAND ‘Bury Me Not on the Lone Prairie’
(trad. arr The Crooked Fiddle Band featuring RICHARD CUTHBERT) (Single)
The Crooked Fiddle Band’s take on a cowboy ballad from 1910 (itself a version of a sailor’s song from 1840) featuring Richard Cuthbert (Green Mohair Suits) on guest vocals. STREAM HERE
Who’d take a cowboy song and play it in 25/8 time? Possibly only us – lovers of trad folk and mathcore. Gordon heard Bruce Molsky’s haunting vocal & violin only free time version of the tune and wanted to play along – the undulating bars of 15/8 and 10/8 is the result of Gordon tapping along to Bruce Molsky wanting to work out how he was feeling it. Much like Messian transcribing birdsong, there’s something mesmerising about the complexity of freedom.
The track features Richard Cuthbert, long term friend of the band first via his Cuthbert & the Nightwalkers, and more recently as one of The Green Mohair Suits. Richard’s direct, plaintive holler suits this song perfectly, with its lament about the possibility of being laid to rest far from home.

THE AMITY AFFLICTION ‘Let The Ocean Take Me’ (Album Redux) ‘My Father’s Son’ (Single)
Legendary metalcore outfit The Amity Affliction have today announced the release of ‘Let The Ocean Take Me’ (Redux), which is set to drop on the 27th of September. The announcement is paired with the re-release of fan-favourite track ‘My Fathers Son’, which is available on all platforms as of today.
‘Let The Ocean Take Me’ was a seminal record for the band when it was released in 2014. The bands 2nd Aria Number 1 album, ‘Let The Ocean Take Me’ was praised by critics and fans alike – opening up the band to a larger audience, and pushing their sound to new heights. 10 years on and the fusion of raw emotion and dynamic soundscapes is just as poignant as it was upon release, full to the brim with timeless singles such as ‘Pittsburgh’, ‘Don’t Lean On Me’ and ‘The Weigh Down’.
The re-release comes after the band’s exit from their previous label, who they worked with from 2012’s ‘Chasing Ghosts’ up until 2018’s ‘Misery’. ‘Let The Ocean Take Me’ (Redux) is the band’s chance to take back ownership of their art, and move on from a difficult situation that has weighed immensely on the band in recent years.
“We re-recorded this album for a few reasons, but it would be foolish for me not to mention the more monumental of these, that being that our deal with our previous record label had them taking the vast majority of all revenue from what has been our most successful album until recently. When you spend over two decades in an industry you get to see how predatory it can be, and the main victims of this predation are young bands that are wined and dined into deals that all but guarantee the band will only make money for the label and not for themselves.
This is what happened with us; we were never a group of people who were gunning to be massive or successful, we didn’t really look to the future at all, instead we were completely taken by the treatment we received and the promises that were made and only when it was far too late and we were far too far along in our contract to do anything about it.” JOEL BIRCH, THE AMITY AFFLICTION
The band hope this can be a lesson to younger bands – to actively look for fair deals and push towards smaller indie labels when considering a career in the industry.
“This is a chance to claw some of that back and have some ownership over our own songs, something that we didn’t have while with our old label. Let this be the canary in the coal mine for younger bands, in this day and age you can find ethical and equitable deals, you don’t need to believe the bullshit larger labels will feed you, and you can maintain control over your masters and own your own songs. Thankfully we’ve always told people to get fucked when they’ve tried to meddle in our music or this could have been even worse, in any case, I hope that you guys enjoy this and give it a thrashing, we are personally much happier with this new recreation.”
JOEL BIRCH, THE AMITY AFFLICTION
The Amity Affliction are currently booked as headliners for the Big Pineapple Festival in Woombye, Queensland – with a lineup that includes the likes of Bliss N Eso, Golden Features and Peking Duk, set for the 19th of October. Following this, Australian fans will be able to catch the album in full this November, as they make their way across stages in Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide and Perth with support from Ice Nine Kills, We Came As Romans and Heavensgate.

BELLE HAVEN ‘FauxLove’ (Single) ‘Something New (EP out Oct 4)
Naarm/Melbourne-based alternative rock band Belle Haven have just announced their exciting new EP ‘something new’ out on Friday, October 4. Accompanying this announcement is their first single off the record, ‘fauxlove’ – produced by Jack Newlyn (Between You & Me, bukowski) and mixed by James Paul Wisner (Paramore).
‘fauxlove’ soars with explosive layers of guitar riffs and spirited drums, as frontman David De La Hoz’s expressive vocals deliver a fierce surge of energy. The heart-racing instrumentation builds relentlessly, exuding a cathartic release of unbridled passion.
David De La Hoz talks about the inspiration behind ‘fauxlove’: “Lyrically, ‘fauxlove’ delves into the intricate and conflicting emotions of craving love and intimacy while simultaneously fearing it. It’s a paradox that I live every day. The line ‘love me with the lights down low’ highlights the desire to be loved without the vulnerability of being fully seen, while the line ‘sinking into you’ portrays how the pursuit of love can quickly become overwhelming and feel out of my control. This theme is brought to life in the music video through the use of harsh spotlight shots and overwhelming paparazzi-style imagery, effectively illustrating the tension between wanting to be loved and feeling engulfed by that very desire. Or it’s about having sex. Whatever you prefer to take from it.” Click to view / stream ‘fauxlove’
Accompanying the release is the dynamic music video directed by the band’s own Daniel Marinakis with artistic consultation from long-time collaborator/artist Yannica Mariah and old friend of the band Cian Marangos as Director of Photography. The video opens in a warmly lit motel room, where the band are enveloped in golden hues, capturing the themes of longing for love while fearing intimacy. As the song progresses, the video intensifies with faster cuts and the setting transforms into a The 1975-style scene, with a single spotlight moving over the band members.
The band will be showcasing at BIGSOUND (2024) and have previously shared the stage with Comeback Kid (CAN), Silverstein (CAN), I Prevail (USA), We The Kings (USA), RedHook and Polaris. They’ve also seen extensive support from the likes of Spotify, Apple Music, triple j, triple j Unearthed, PBS FM, 4ZZZ, Radio Adelaide and have just joined Capital Artist Group for Europe/UK touring.
‘fauxlove’ is available worldwide now

Recorded at Soundpark Studios with Andrew “Idge” Hehir and mixed by James Trevascus (who produced their award winning album Brain Worms) ‘Don’t Take It Badly’ is a head-on collision seeing RVG at their most jangly. Of the song front woman Romy Vager explains “Don’t Take It Badly is a song about how change isn’t always a romantic thing and can sometimes feel pretty ugly. It’s a winter song that I wrote in the summer.”
‘Don’t Take It Badly’ is joined by a euphoric, chiming cover of The Ramones’ ‘Pet Sematary’. “We all love the Ramones” Romy states “And started playing this in rehearsal and it instantly clicked. The lyrics are such an underrated part of Ramones’ songs, there’s a lot of imagery in this song that I love dearly.”
The two track comes ahead of RVG’s first international tour for 2024 in the UK and Europe. The tour kicks off on Thursday 28th August at The Lexington in London. The tour will consist of performances at End of the Road Festival, SMG Festival, Misty Fields and Hop Pop Hop Festival among numerous headline dates.
After a massive 12 months since Brain Worms that saw the band showcase at SXSW (Austin, USA) and The Great Escape (Brighton, UK), plus play Golden Plains, Rising Festival, Dark Mofo and Splendour in the Grass, this double A-side is the perfect follow up to their acclaimed ‘Brain Worms’ album, lauded by Rolling Stone, The Guardian, Uncut, FADER, KEXP, MOJO, NME, Louder Than War, Clash, Apple Music 1, and anyone else with ears.

SOPHIE LILAH ‘Fear/Instinct’ (EP)
From Perth/Boorloo, a mysterious artist has emerged from the mist: young musician Sophie Lilah, wielding her ethereal debut EP ‘Fear/Instinct’ out on Friday, August 16. This EP contains songs pulled straight from the diary of the elusive adolescent that weaves together into something beautiful.
At just 18, Sophie Lilah is already showing herself as someone to keep an eye on. It’s no shock that her dreamy tracks and unique, decadent compositions have garnered attention from Apple Music, Triple J, Triple J Unearthed, Music Feeds, Scenestr and more. This EP ties together what makes her music iconic by showcasing her incredible vocal range, acoustic guitar riffs, and sweet synth mixing.
This EP is made up of 5 moody indie songs. The album begins with ‘Real’, a grounded, passion-packed ballad that demonstrates Sophie’s impressive vocal range, with understated, steady drums and acoustic guitar perfectly complementing Sophie Lilah’s voice. Stream ‘Fear/Instinct’ EP
This is followed by her recently released lead single ‘Content but I find’, a light, tragically whimsical song that’s slow and nostalgic – almost a lullaby.
‘Dreamland’ comes next, switching up the mood a little. This is a groovy, flowy jam with an addictive bass riff and hallucinogenic vocals, an air of mystery reminiscent of a spy movie. Following that, ‘Collecting Dust’ is a low and melancholic dwell on depression, decadent and earthy with a dramatic build-up, complete with edgy, subversive guitar.
The finale of the EP is ‘Sinking’. Its grounded, acoustic beginning floats up and around with Sophie’s dreamy vocals, blending layers and ethereal sounds with gentle acoustic as the song expands.
Sophie Lilah explains that these songs were written in her final two years of high school, and though she can no longer relate to them, she’s releasing them in the hopes that they’ll come to those who need them.
