Sydney has it’s summer sorted! Merivale and Corona Extra present Sunday Sundown, a new live music experience at dusk, this summer. Taking place over twelve dates from 3 January to 20 March, Sunday Sundown will showcase thirty-nine breakthrough Australian artists at three stunning waterside venues – Coogee Pavilion, ivy Pool Club and The Newport.
The vision of Sunday Sundown is to bring live music back to the forefront of Sydney’s enviable summer and provide an exciting platform to showcase great local talent. From the Eastern Suburbs to the Northern Beaches, Sunday Sundown will provide a stage for Australian artists to not only cut their teeth and perform hotly-tipped tracks, but mix up their signature sounds with stripped backed sets and acoustic sessions.
Coogee Rooftop, the spectacular oasis overlooking the breathtaking Coogee shoreline, opens the series with Australia’s freshest music export, The Preatures (acoustic), on 3 January. Having already won the coveted Vanda & Young Songwriting Competition and graced the stages at Glastonbury and Coachella, the Sydney indie rock powerhouse bring their gothic soul and classic rock to the vibrant beachside destination. Sunday Sundown continues at Coogee with the crisp beats of electro-indie trio SAFIA (DJ set) on 17 January, sublime harmonies and guitar pop of Dustin Tebbutt on 31 February, effervescent house of Nicky Night Time on 7 February and ambient beats of Yahtzel (DJ set) on 7 March – with a killer line-up of support acts including Tyler Touché, JOY., E^ST and Cassian each weekend. Entry to Sunday Sundown sessions at Coogee Rooftop is free.
Rooftop party mecca ivy Pool Club will play host to a formidable line-up of local dance talent for Sunday Sundown. With her fast flow, bossy beats and hella-high shoes, Adelaide emcee Tkay Maidza kicks things off at the pool on 10 January. Earning her stripes as one of the most energetic musicians on the live circuit, Tkay has taken her tunes to the masses and caused a global sensation with the release of her debut EP ‘Switch Tape’. Sydney’s own KLP (DJ set) will bring her signature blend of party bass vibes on 24 January, followed by special international guests Holyghost on 14 February and tropical-trap don L D R U on 6 March. An impressive roster of support acts join the Pool Club line-up each week including Juno Mars, Surf Disco, Indian Summer, Two Can (DJ set), Chiefs and Nick Lynar. Entry to Sunday Sundown at ivy Pool Club is $20.
Sunday Sundown reaches The Newport, Merivale’s soon-to-be-launched venue on the idyllic Northern Beaches, in February. With its expansive alfresco deck and sweeping views of Pittwater, The Newport will be the perfect spot to enjoy acoustic sets by local talent at sunset. The eclectic, psychedelic sounds of indie duo Gypsy & The Cat grace the peninsula on 21 February, while Melbourne’s nine-piece soul outfit Saskwatch take over on 29 February. Tasmanian singer songwriter Asta headlines on 6 March, before four-time ARIA award winner Ben Lee on 14 March. Sydney synth-pop trio Mansionair close out the series on 20 March. Headliners will be joined by the likes of Gordi, YesYou, Elizabeth Rose (DJ set) and World Champion. Entry to Sunday Sundown sessions at The Newport is free.
