AIR (Australian Independent Record Labels Association) is thrilled to announce that it will place a total of 160 mentees for the next intake of the 4-year women in music mentor program supported by the Commonwealth Government.

The selected mentees will begin their mentorships in two groups, the first group commencing 15th of November 2022 and the second group commencing 15th of February 2023.

The Women in Music Mentor program is a four-year nation-wide mentoring and training program aimed at empowering women in the Australian music industry. The program is open to all female, female- identifying and non-binary participants working in or aspiring to work in creative (solo artists, band members, songwriters), technical (engineers, producers, etc.) and/or business roles (managers, promoters, record labels, etc.) within the Australian music industry. In addition to mentoring tailored to each mentee’s unique and diverse skill set and needs, the mentees will participate in a professional development program.

Minister for Arts, Tony Burke MP, said: “The Women in Music Mentor Program provides an exciting opportunity for our artists to advance their skills, build networks, and access exciting career opportunities. The Australian Government is committed to boosting every aspect of Australian music and looks forward to empowering the next generation of women in music.”

Maria Amato, AIR CEO, said: “ The demand for this incredible program remains strong with another diverse group of mentees from all sectors of the industry seeking to participate. It is an honour to deliver a program that aims to empower, educate and build self-confidence to help mentees progress their career aspirations.”

“Excellent. Really well done and a really supportive and caring environment. An amazing, amazing program that has benefited me and my career greatly. Thank you!” Jesse-Lee, mentee from Melbourne

“I would just like to say this is a great program and I know it’s made an impact already on some many of the next generation coming through.” Mardi, mentor from Sydney

“The mentor experience was really great for boosting my confidence in myself as a manager. I thought I was failing for so many reasons but speaking to a mentor enabled me to see… I’m actually doing just fine.” Hayley, mentee from Perth

“I have thoroughly enjoyed this wonderful experience. Being selected and being able to meet and network with so many experienced, talented and professional women has been such a privilege and it is an experience I will never forget.” Holly, mentee from Hobart
