Nat Allison is one of Australia’s hardest working musicians, to date she has played more than 6000 gigs including festivals, guitar shows and many other specialty events both nationally and internationally. Nat performs on average three to five times per week.
Music has lived deep within her soul since childhood, an unmistakable passion as you’ll discover whenever you see Nat perform. Her guitar playing and vocal abilities are impeccable, not many performers can hold their own and command the audience as Nat can. When Nat’s not playing her own shows she also lends her guitar playing skills to other artists such as the legendary Suzi Quatro, who paved the way for women in rock, like Nat today! In fact, one of Nat’s newest projects is called Rock Chick, a show in which she pays tribute to legendary female rockers.
Australian Musician editor Greg Phillips sat down with NAT ALLISON in her home studio to talk about her career, gear and future as our Musician of the Month for August, 2024. Photos and video assistance by Jason Rosewarne.
Nat Allison career highlights include:
• In 1999 Nat signed with Standard Records Australia for a five album deal.
• A co-writing partnership with Mike Chapman (Blondie, Joan Jett, Suzi Quatro, Pat Benatar) produced a repertoire of more than 30 exciting songs together.
• In 2007 Nat played guitar for one of Australia’s finest vocalists Vanessa Amorosi. From interstate to international tours, TV performances and she featured in the video for Vanessa’s single ‘Kiss Your Mama.’
• Nat’s song ‘Anyone For Tennis’ was chosen by Channel Seven, Australia & Eurosport in the U.K as the theme song for their 2010 & 2012 Australian Open advertising campaigns.
• Single, ‘Anyone For Tennis?’ Released in 2010.
• Nat is invited to London to play guitar on Suzi Quatro’s ‘In The Spotlight’ LP in 2010.
• Nat was chosen to be the hero talent in Country Racing Victoria’s advertising campaign from 2010 to 2012
• Nat is Suzi Quatro’s go to guitar player when she tours Australia and has toured the country with her multiple times. Nat has also journeyed with Suzi to play shows in Japan, Germany & Canada. Their working relationship doesn’t end there, they have also written and recorded some great songs together!
• Nat’s EP titled, ‘This One’s For You’ released on September 3rd, 2016. Available on all major online stores and streaming services but if you prefer a physical CD, navigate to the shop page on this site and pick yourself up a hard copy.
• In 2018 Nat was asked by the Screaming Jet’s Band to record one of the 16 guitar solo’s for a Stevie Wright cover called Guitar Band. It became an epic 14 minute version of the song featuring some of Australia’s finest guitar players.
• Nat’s highly anticipated single We Are The Heroes dropped globally on October 8th, 2021
• Nat is currently back in the studio recording 5 new tracks before heading to Germany to play Sinner festival
