THREATS ‘Elbow Kneesey’ (Single) ‘Backward Alchemy’ (Album out Nov 15)
Based in nipaluna/Hobart, Threats combine dizzying drums, primitive riffs rendered at hyper-speed, and words of introspection, subversion and gardening into a cathartic maelstrom of fun. Dancing around a bonfire of hardcore punk since 2019, the four friends throw in scraps of thrash and noise/electronics to singe some eyebrows.
Fresh from supporting Australian heavy music royalty Mindsnare on their first voyage across the Bass Strait in 20 years, nipaluna/Hobart horticulturally-tinged hardcore heroes Threats will soon unleash their long-awaited second album Backward Alchemy – due for release independently on November 15th and available to pre-order on 12” silver swirl vinyl now.
Recorded at Mona’s Frying Pan Studios in 2023, Backward Alchemy “captures those delicate moments at the turning point of something great turning to shit; gold to lead”. The album traverses challenging terrain, weighing heavily on our chests as Threats examine the agony of loss with excruciating rigour. Sonically it is expansive; its hardcore punk heart coloured by shades of industrial, doom, and experimental noise, as the band trek through a scorched landscape of emotional devastation.
Second single ‘Elbow Kneesey’ (October 16th) is the gut punch of excoriating grief that directly precedes the maelstrom of anguished introspection conveyed in previous release ‘Hurricane’. Unflinchingly cathartic and immediate, and at times confrontingly stark, ‘Elbow Kneesey’ crushes us progressively with the growing realisation of what has been lost, leaving us irreversibly, desperately altered.
“Grief is just a love that’s got no place to go.”
Elbow Kneesey’s menacing video accompaniment completes The Surgical Threats Sideshow, directed by nipaluna/Hobart gothic icon Black Paul. Delivered to the band rural spy-ops style via a chook feed silo in the deep south of lutruwita/Tasmania, the project features footage from his 2021 film ‘The Surgical Sideshow’, with the individual clips for ‘Elbow Kneesey’ and ‘Hurricane’ joining together to form one cohesive work.
Described by The Pitch Of Discontent as “a visceral blast of hardcore punk played with gusto and an oppressive noise-rock attitude”, previous single ‘Hurricane’ has garnered enthusiastic support from Australian community radio stations including 4ZZZ, PBS FM and Edge Radio, reaching #14 on 4ZZZ’s weekly top 20 list, as well as support from DCxPC Live, Heavy Mag and Good Call Live, and playlisting by The Underground Stage and Good Intent.
Threats’ Backward Alchemy album launch show will take place at the Moonah Arts Centre on Saturday November 16th, featuring a remarkably diverse support line-up including hip-hop/R&B scene queen Grace Chia, metalcore riff-lords Seven Inch Stare, electronic visionary RVNKNG, creep-hop merchant hallucin8er, and the experimental transmissions of Temu Grillz – in an exclusive one-time only appearance.

DWIGHT YOAKAM ‘I Don’t Know How to Say Goodbye’ HOW TO SAY GOODBYE -Bang Bang Boom Boom (Single/Video)
21-time nominated, multiple Grammy Award winner and country superstar Dwight Yoakam has unveiled the music video for his new track “I Don’t Know How To Say Goodbye (Bang Bang Boom Boom)” with Post Malone. The video makes its broadcast premiere on CMT, CMT Music, CMT Equal and Paramount Times Square Billboard.
Starring Yoakam and Post Malone, the music video also features Nina Dobrev, Malin Akerman and The Babylonian Cowboys (Mitch Marine (Drums), Eugene Edwards (Electric Guitar), Jonathan Clark (Bass Guitar), Steve Peavey (Fiddle, Pedal Steel, Organ). The single was written specifically by Yoakam for a collaboration with Post Malone. The music video was directed by Gregory Alosio.
Yoakam recently confirmed his first album of new music in nine years, Brighter Days, set for release November 15 on Via Records/Thirty Tigers.
Pre-order/pre-save Brighter Days HERE.
Written and recorded over the last three years, Brighter Days features 12 brand-new songs written/co-written by Yoakam, as well as three seemingly disparate covers of “Keeping On The Sunny Side” by the Carter Family, “Bound Away” by Cake, and “Time Between” by The Byrds artfully woven into the same body of work in the unmistakable style that could only be Dwight Yoakam.
At once timeless and timely, Yoakam self-produced Brighter Days, infusing a modern appreciation for country music’s history with the trailblazing rock and roll spirit of California. The result is an album that reflects a sense of craftsmanship and immediacy, capturing the quintessential Dwight Yoakam “cool” that has set him apart from his country contemporaries since the beginning of his legendary career. As always, Yoakam’s lyrics throughout the album are both deceptively effortless and profoundly poignant. The album was mixed by world-class engineer Chris Lord-Alge.
Dwight Yoakam has sold over 26 million albums worldwide, with five reaching the #1 spot on Billboard. He is a 21-time nominated, multiple Grammy Award winner. He has 12 Gold albums and nine Platinum or multi-Platinum albums. Yoakam is the recipient of the Artist of the Year Award from the Americana Music Association, the prestigious BMI Country Awards’ President’s Award, and has been inducted into the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame. He will receive a Lifetime Achievement Honor at the 2024 Americana Music Awards. He has collaborated with everyone from Beck to Kid Rock, ZZ Top, Hunter S. Thompson and Jack White. He has toured with the likes of Buck Owens, Johnny Cash and Hüsker Dü. Yoakam’s last album, Swimmin’ Pools, Movie Stars…, was released in 2016. Rolling Stone Country raves, “Yoakam sounds right at home on these new versions,” while NPR Music praises, “You can hear Yoakam making masterful choices on every phrase.”
In addition to his musical career, Yoakam has appeared in more than 40 feature films including Sling Blade, Panic Room and Steven Soderbergh’s Logan Lucky with Channing Tatum and Daniel Craig, plus a role in the Amazon series Goliath. Over the course of his storied acting career he has worked with the likes of Jodie Foster, Tommy Lee Jones, Jared Leto, Matthew McConaughey and more.
In 1977, Yoakam left Kentucky for Nashville to embark on a music career but found that the Music City was moving away from traditional country roots to more pop-country. He found himself better suited to the post-Bakersfield movement and became one of the founding fathers
of the “L.A. Cowpunk Scene” influenced by second-wave rockabilly and punk alongside X, Los Lobos, The Knitters, Rank & File and The Blasters.
KEVIN SULLIVAN ‘Get Your Affairs In Order’ (Single)
I think you better “Get your affairs in order”. This very sad and poignant message is given to many cancer patients by their medical practitioners and in many cases, it signifies life’s journey is coming to an end.
“Get your affairs in order” is the next single by Kevin Sullivan from his ARIA charting album Threeways. It further showcases the emotive depth, lyrical complexity and musicality that Sullivan combines to create something truly impactful.
Kevin Sullivan had a good friend, Leanne a proud Barkindji woman from Bourke in western New South Wales. A happy person full of life, Leanne had a lump appear and in late 2016, she was diagnosed with Adrenocortical Carcinoma, a rare and aggressive cancer that originates in the cortex of the adrenal gland.
Not one to walk away from a fight, Leanne travelled from Bourke to Sydney and received ongoing treatment. “Leanne was a tough woman and a loving mother and her friends and family always believed that Leanne would win this fight.
Sadly, Leanne and her husband Neil, visited the doctor one day and he said the words to them they would never forget, “I think you better, get your affairs in order”. Leanne passed away in August 2018.
Kevin Sullivan spoke to Leanne’s’ husband Neil in Orange after she had passed away. Kevin was on the way to play a show at Griffith the next day and Neil told Kevin the message “get your affairs in order” the Doctor had given Leanne and how they sadly went home and planned for the end.
The next day Kevin and his wife Belinda travelled to Griffith for a show and stayed with Marg in her beautiful home. Kevin asked Marg about her home and she replied, My husband Ross designed and built this home, but sadly he developed cancer and one day we went to the doctor and he said to Ross, “I think you better get your affairs in order”.
To hear the same message given to two separate people who were battling cancer and to subsequently have heard that many cancer sufferers are also told a similar thing when treatment and medication can no longer help really moved Kevin. Driving home from Griffith, Kevin decided to write a song titled just that, Get your affairs in order”.
“We have lost family and friends to cancer and sadly it is a terrible club to belong to, however, almost everyone we come into contact with has a story about someone they know who is battling cancer or has sadly lost their fight to this terrible disease”.
Kevin wanted to shine a light on cancer sufferers, their family and friends and how cancer doesn’t discriminate, it can affect anyone, anywhere.
Kevin decided that the artwork for the single, should be a photograph of his dear friend Leanne and he spoke with Leanne’s husband and children who gave Kevin permission to use this image for the single, “Get your affairs in order”.
Kevin’s new album Threeways rocketed to #1 on the ARIA Top 20 Australian Country Album charts for two weeks in a row and remained in the ARIA top 8 for seven weeks, not bad for an independent artist.
Kevin and his singing family The Sulli-Vans are currently on tour through Queensland, South Australia and the Northern Territory, promoting the new album Threeways and this new single “Get your affairs in order from the album.
Many of the songs on “Threeways”, feature the harmonious voices of Kevin and Belinda’s youngest children, The Sulli-Vans, (KJ, Cha Cha and Jet) who support the singer/songwriter at his LIVE shows having travelled over 180,000 kilometres performing over 300 shows from Cape York, to the Northern Territory, W.A, South Australia and all points in between.

WILLARIS. K Feat HXXD GXLD ’Drama On The Edge’ (Single)
Willaris. K shares ‘Drama On the Edge’ the final taste of what’s to come from the Naarm based producer’s debut album Everything Is As It Should Be (out Friday 1 November). LISTEN / WATCH
‘Drama On The Edge’ had a long gestation period, but the result is a layered, compelling journey that justifies the effort. A creative who values collaboration and seeks to explore all possibilities, Willaris. K sought fresh perspectives from multiple people on the track. While this process often gives him new perspectives on his work, for this song, he learned that this process came full circle and allowed him to see that he was already on the right path on his own. Ultimately, exploring all possibilities for the track brought him back to himself.
Eventually, as he was pulling his hair out on the song’s twelfth iteration, unable to see the forest for the trees, a friend (HXXD GXLD) from back home sent him a track.
“I listened to it three days later when I was driving. He’d rapped over version two, and it was incredible. And I was like, ‘Boom, this is it’. So, I scrapped everything I had, went back to version two, and remade it.” – Willaris. K
With the new vocals by HXXD GXLD, the track felt fresh again. And another lesson came packaged up on McAllister’s doorstep.
The long-awaited debut album marks a new phase for Willaris. K. Everything Is As It Should Be has the same thrumming, moody sensibility that earned him critical acclaim, running parallel to complex and hard-fought emotional peaks and troughs.
‘Drama On The Edge’ follows the recent release of the energetic ‘Guard’, emotive ‘I Miss You Now’, dance release ‘Backbackback’ and momentous collaboration with The Presets ‘World Collapsing’, which led to a euphoric jamesjamesjames remix. Willaris. K also recently released track ‘Say’ with Naarm now-London producer Memphis LK and played Naarm’s Abbotsford Covent which sold out in just 48 hours.

HANNI ‘The Border’ (Single)
Enchanting Brisbane-based indie-pop singer-songwriter, HANNI releases the sublime heartfelt pop single, “The Border”, and announces her highly anticipated debut EP “Sentimental Me” out November 28, available to pre-order now via Dew Process/Universal Music.
“The Border” marks the third taste of new music from the upcoming debut EP, following the beautiful melancholy “Sad Girl Hours” and the poignant love letter “I Would”, which received widespread acclaim following a week-long sync on Channel 7 Home and Away season finale trailer HERE.
“The Border” was co-written and produced with singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Hauskey in Sydney. HANNI’s candid and confessional lyrics paired with her dreamy delicate vocals and haunting melody tugs at the heartstrings as she navigates through the turbulence of emotions in leaving a toxic relationship. With lyrics like “I gave you all I had and I’m exhausted”, the song reflects on the painful process of realising it’s time to move on after months of false hope, chronicling moments of frustration, exhaustion, and eventual closure, making it an anthem for those grappling with the aftermath of a love gone wrong.
HANNI shares, “I wrote “The Border” back in June of 2021, on my first solo work trip to Sydney. The night before I flew to Sydney, I had a huge fight with my partner at the time and I remember getting on the flight, putting my headphones on and crying the whole flight. I met up with Hauskey for the first time to have a session, and as we talked about our lives, I opened up about feeling deflated in the relationship. I unmasked the fact that I should have left the relationship months prior, but I had been holding on to the hope that he would change his behaviour but at the time he couldn’t, didn’t want to or maybe he didn’t know how to… I remember leaving the session listening to the demo of “The Border” on repeat because I felt every. single. lyric. Now having the perspective of years behind this relationship I still really don’t understand why I stayed in such a toxic relationship for so long but in a bittersweet way I’m glad I did because I made “The Border”.”
HANNI’s innate ability to write honest, confessional catchy lyrics about her life experiences in love, relationships, and self-empowerment, alongside haunting melodies has captivated fans worldwide who are drawn to her unique sensibility and authenticity. The debut EP “Sentimental Me” captures HANNI’s best songwriting to date sharing the rollercoaster of emotions HANNI went through over the last 5 years, a dreamy introspective and diaristic collection of songs about relationships, love, heartbreak, loss and everything in between. HANNI unveils, “each song feels like a confession to myself, a way to process and do therapy without seeing a therapist. These songs feel as though I’ve quite literally opened up my diary and spilled my deepest darkest secrets into each lyric. The making of each song on “Sentimental Me” has been a band aid in helping me heal wounds that were so deep I didn’t think they ever would heal. “I Would” cross “The Border” in my “Sad Girl Hours” to “Fix Myself” because I “Care Too Much” because I’m just little ol’ “Sentimental Me”.”

LOOSE CONTENT ‘Where The Hollow People Sleep’ (Single)
Loose Content is a three-piece indie/alt-rock band hailing from the hinterland of Byron Bay. Formed during high school by close friends MiLLa (bass and vocals), Sam Sanders (guitars) and Aquila Porter (drums & BV’s).
Melbourne/Naarm-based alt-rock band Loose Content have unveiled their latest single, ‘Where The Hollow People Sleep,’ a haunting exploration of love, guilt, and the darker corners of the human psyche. In conjunction with the release, the band have revealed an East Coast single tour and will perform at SXSW Sydney this week.
Produced by renowned producer Nick DiDia—known for his work with artists like Stone Temple Pilots, Rage Against the Machine, Bruce Springsteen, and Powderfinger—‘Where The Hollow People Sleep’ weaves together literary inspiration with raw musicality, creating a compelling narrative that lingers long after the last note. Through its themes of isolation and hollowness, the song delves into the psychopathy that can hide behind a mask of love, prompting reflection on the fragility of relationships and the darkness that can emerge in moments of despair.
Inspired by a villainous monologue written by frontwoman MiLLa during a school project on the Romantic era, ‘Where The Hollow People Sleep’ takes listeners deep into the mind of a protagonist who recounts the chilling story of murdering their wife and concealing her body beneath their shared bed. As the narrative unfolds, it reveals a complex mix of power and remorse, urging listeners to confront the unsettling truths of human emotion and societal decay. The band says of the single, “This track has lived with us for a while now, from its preliminary unruly live incarnations, all the way up until when we were in the studio with Nick laying down its final form. We were listening to a lot of bands like Smashing Pumpkins, Pixies and Patti Smith while recording and they definitely had an influence on the personality of the song. For us, a lyric that encapsulates the essence of the song is “And she walked the silent streets, where The Hollow People sleep. The timely shovel only rusting more and more each day.”
The single will be available digitally and on a hand-stamped, numbered red 7” vinyl record, which is strictly limited to 200 copies. Loose Content is signed directly to Impressed Recordings and represented by Impressed Music Management, the managerial offshoot of the record company and vinyl imprint that’s shaken up the Australian Music Industry in 2024.
Impressed Recordings is already home to Jet, The Ferguson Rogers Process (Tim Rogers & Lance Ferguson of The Bamboos), and many others. It also presses on vinyl exclusive releases from Royel Otis, Briggs, Ziggy Ramo, Surf Trash, Polish Club, UB40, The Wiggles, Chet Faker, Dice, and Sophie.

Sheppard, now living in Nashville, have returned home to Australia to launch the tour and new single and is their first chance to celebrate with their Australian fans following the recent ARIA #1 success of their 4th studio album ZORA. The trio asked their friend and multi-platinum dance music artist, Jolyon Petch to open at all their headline shows, which will include stops in Sydney (tonight), Brisbane, Gold Coast, Sunshine Coast, Perth, Adelaide, Melbourne, and Kiama on the NSW South Coast. In addition, Sheppard will make a ‘by demand’ return to the main stage of Tropical North Queensland’s favourite music festival, Savannah In The Round. The band will also make a stop off in Young, NSW to bring their positive vibes to The Carnival of Cups.
The new single “Sunshine” Sheppard x Jolyon Petch came to fruition when Jolyon visited the Sheppard’s in their new home in Nashville earlier this year. The superstar 2 x ARIA & MTV EMA Award nominated Producer and DJ who’s had an incredible eleven #1 singles on the ARIA Club Charts had an idea to completely put a new spin on a track they played him from the then unreleased “Zora” album. It was then the new version of “Sunshine” with lead vocals from Amy gave birth and held secretly from release until now as it radiates the energy of an approaching Australian summer.
“Sunshine is all about embracing the joy in life, finding those little moments of light even when things feel tough. We had a tonne of fun reproducing this version with one of Australia’s most current and in demand DJ’s, Jolyon Petch. Jolyon brings an infectious energy to the track, taking the uplifting vibe of the original to a whole new level. It’s the kind of song that makes you want to let go and dance like there’s no tomorrow.”- George Sheppard.

PAT TIERNEY ‘Lost In The Haze’ (Album)
Sunshine Coast singer-songwriter Pat Tierney has just released his brand new album, Lost In The Haze. A stunning collection of tracks that range across folk, blues, roots, and soul, Lost In The Haze is a warm and profound journey through the mind and heart of the Queensland artist.
Brimming with gorgeous guitar melodies that lean at times towards plucky and twangy, others towards a haunting echo, and others yet again towards the most peaceful and comforting of strums, the album was recorded with renowned roots maestro and ARIA award-winning Paulie B (George, The Beautiful Girls, Bobby Alu) at Yama-Nui Studios on the Sunny Coast. On the record’s genesis and the process of bringing it to its final form, Pat has said:
“I was deeply inspired to push a little further with this record and experiment, try some things we didn’t do on the last record. Paulie B my dear friend and producer was the perfect wingman to navigate this album. We just chipped away over a three year period and the album started to take its shape and meaning. I’m a big believer in letting the songs do the talking and taking it where it needs to go… If you give it enough time and dedication, the album and songs will reveal themselves to you.” PAT TIERNEY
A songsmith and poet in all his endeavours, Pat Tierney brings an old-school approach to modern themes with Lost In The Haze, exploring matters of love, loss, hope, and social justice. Speaking on some of the themes into which the record delves, Pat says:
“It’s a pretty emotional record, I tapped in pretty deeply to where I was at… I think it’s something any artist goes through throughout their career. I had to be ok with feeling lost and that’s where ‘Lost In The Haze’ came from… My life was wonderful but I was struggling internally and music was the escape, the medicine and the therapy. Knowing there was a light, but I needed to sift through the haze and the mess on my own to get there. Most of the songs are an expression of that trip and journey. A lot of the songs are interconnected as well, lyrically and narrative-wise. The album kind of interweaves throughout.” PAT TIERNEY
Pat’s sophomore album Red Moon, released back in 2019, received a slew of positive reviews with features on ABC radio, Double J and community radio across the country. As it stands, the album has clocked nearly 2 million streams across digital streaming platforms since its release.
Since releasing his debut record Wild World Blues in 2015, Pat Tierney has supported the live shows of artists such as The Beautiful Girls, Ash Grunwald, Bobby Alu, and more recently, Canadian blues and folk maestro, Harry Manx. He has also played at beloved music festivals all around the country, including Queenscliff Music Festival (VIC), Caloundra Music Festival (QLD), Blues on Broadbeach (QLD) & The West Australian Guitar Festival (WA).
Pat Tierney has earned a tidy sum of songwriting honours, including three Queensland Music Award finalist nods over the years, with one in 2015 following the release of his debut record, as well as in 2023 for the Blues & Roots category, and then most recently in 2024 for the Folk category. Maintaining 12K monthly listeners on Spotify, and with previous tracks such as ‘Angels’ boasting nearly 1 million streams on the platform, Pat Tierney’s brand new album Lost In The Haze is a stunning body of work set to reiterate his impressive standing in the Australian folk & roots scenes.
In celebration of the new album, Pat Tierney will bring his gorgeous tunes, both new and old alike, to live audiences across the country, with an album launch tour set to hit stages in Queensland and Western Australia over the coming months.

VERONICA FUSARO ‘Slot Machine’ (Single)
With a sunny disposition and sleek execution, the new single Slot Machine out now from singer-songwriter Veronica Fusaro is an addictive sonic ode to real-world modern addictions; an effusive blend of alt pop and modern rock that also signals a brand new creative chapter for the talented Swiss-born artist.
Opening with a jangly swagger, à la other confectionary earworms like Portugal. The Man.’s Feel It Still, Slot Machine quickly takes shape as a confident and enigmatic ode to digital addiction. Dominantly channelling the likes of Vasco Rossi, Black Pumas, Alabama Shakes and Avril Lavigne, Veronica Fusaro’s masterful vocals perfectly thread the underlying musical elements, emerging with an infectious yet meaningful creation that also acts as a delectable entreè to her, as yet unnamed, upcoming second album. “I took it back to my roots with this one,” Fusaro shares. “I was listening to a lot of the rock music that I grew up with when I wrote this song. The song is about the little ‘magic box’ we all carry with us – our phones – and the constant stream of entertainment and information they provide. I realized how dangerously addictive they can be, almost like a slot machine, constantly pulling us in. It tells us what to think, what to wear, what to watch, how to look etc… The song is a reflection on that relationship and how even with all that entertainment, all that content I do not feel content at all. Therefore the: oh no, help me! Why do I feel so down?“.
An artist passionately honest and curious, with unwavering focus on lyricism and the power that music can impart, Veronica Fusaro amassed an international team to bring Slot Machine to life, with some fitting connections to her own heritage, born to a Swiss mother and an Italian father. “I wrote the song myself and sent a demo to Kim Wennerstrøm, a Swedish songwriter and producer based in Berlin, who handled the production and mixing,” explains Fusaro. “The mastering was done by Jonas W. Karlsson from Finland.”
Armed with powerful vocals, an inbuilt gift for storytelling and hues of alternative pop, soul, rock and more, Veronica Fusaro recently enamoured with her 2023 debut full length All the Colours of the Sky. Reaching #5 on Swiss charts, All the Colours of the Sky also come amongst Fusaro ticking off over 500 live performances, including opening for Dire Straits legend Mark Knopfler, performing on the iconic stages of Glastonbury Festival, at the Montreaux Jazz Festival, and closing out 2023 with a sold out appearance in Zurich. With a formidable live presence, Fusaro seamlessly balances joy with powerful undertones in her incredible sonic output; and her driving passion stems from finding a love for music at an early age as well as a gift for fusing her inspiration into her music. “Great music makes me tick, but really it could be anything,” Fusaro reveals. “A conversation I have with a stranger or a good friend, something I see on TV, something I read, something I observe… anything really. And I somehow feel the need to transform this inspiration into words and music. I’m not the best talker, so I guess music is the way I get to communicate and feel safe and good about what I feel. And I got into music as a little kid, I just always enjoyed singing, eventually started playing guitar and writing songs in 4th/5th grade and well… here I am today!”.
With plans set for 2025 to release a follow up to her debut 2023 album, All the Colours of the Sky, Fusaro’s first step into this brand new era is vividly heralded by Slot Machine; and there is definitely plenty of magic set to come from Veronica Fusaro going into 2025. “It feels strange to be releasing this new single, but in a very exciting way,” Fusaro concludes. “I’m definitely a bit nervous since it’s been a while since I’ve released new music, but I’m also really proud of Slot Machine. It’s the first chapter of a project that I’m incredibly passionate about. I really can’t wait for everyone to hear it.”
MAKE THEM SUFFER ‘Mana God’ (Single/Video)
Oozing with raw savagery, the brand new single Mana God from Make Them Suffer blisters between deathcore and palpitating electronic urgency. Out now via Greyscale Records in Australia and SharpTone Records for the rest of the world, Mana God reveals another layer ahead of the release of Make Them Suffer’s forthcoming self-titled studio album, due out on November 8.
Wielding slightly new sonic terrain for Make Them Suffer as they approach the release of album #5, Mana God showcases some of the heaviest moments lying in wait on Make Them Suffer, releasing today with an accompanying music video.
“There is a fine line to tread when discussing a song like Mana God without sounding like a crazed conspiracy theorist,” shares vocalist Sean Harmanis. “I feel we’ve now reached a point in time where the systems of control in our day-to-day lives are both present and obvious to most rational minds. Despite this, having conversations about topics like this are becoming increasingly difficult and are often considered inflammatory.”
“Mana God is a song about control,” adds Harmanis. “The control that the media can have over our thoughts and views. The control that religious organisations can have over people’s lives. The level of control that governments are able to enforce and most importantly the control that we are often held under by our own technological devices and their algorithms.”
“Most people today would know at least one or many who have been driven to the brink of madness by the echo chamber of their phone or computer. I notice many of these people being shunned, ostracised from their communities and held prisoner by their own confirmation bias, force-fed to them through their phones. I don’t see the people as the issue, rather the devices, for the breakdown of human connection.”
“Mana God to me is a call to action, to break away from the current systems of control and return to a space where communication and human connection are nurtured and encouraged.”
A full-circle moment forged alongside years of endurance and innovation, Make Them Suffer self-titled full length spans 11 tracks of inventive ferocity, with the five-piece in unwavering control of their sonic identity. Bound with lashings of melodic light and blistering shade, the album also fearlessly steps into new creative terrain that embraces yet boldly expands upon the group’s foundational symphonic, progressive, and blackened textures.
Amongst a lineup change, a global pandemic, and the residual reality of external expectations, Make Them Suffer faced ongoing hurdles leading into their fifth studio album; and yet the band’s self-titled 2024 full length is one unflinchingly driven by cohesion and candour, simultaneously honouring their past while expounding their present in torridly authentic fashion.
Tracing its origins back to 2022, the new Make Them Suffer era was first set in motion by the announcement of Sean Harmanis (vocals), Nick McLernon (guitar), Jaya Jeffery (bass), and Jordan Mather (drums) releasing the blistering single Doomswitch as well as joining forces with Alex Reade taking up the role of backing vocalist and keyboardist, aka Make Them Suffer’s trademark “Fifth Member”. Following on with singles Epitaph and Ghost Of Me, Make Them Suffer ultimately crafted their forthcoming new album in between an exceedingly busy international touring schedule as live music opportunities continued to rise in the post-pandemic landscape.
Self-produced along with returning collaborator Jeff Dunne (Disturbed, Ice Nine Kills, Fit For A King) on engineering mixing and mastering duties, Make Them Suffer is ultimately a dynamic return to heavier terrain bolstered by bold new elements, representing a new chapter that also honours and snapshots the hurdles and hard work faced by Make Them Suffer along the way.
In 2024 alone, Make Them Suffer have continue their world domination with an almost entirely sold out Australian tour supporting Bring Me The Horizon with Sleep Token in April, a run of European and UK festivals, including Download Festival, Copenhell, and Jera On Air. The band also recently ticked off some of their biggest headline shows to date with their Suffer Forever Australian tour, selling out Brisbane, Newcastle and Melbourne and joined by special guests Bury Tomorrow, Spite and Bloom.

RELAYS Self-Titled Debut Album
Raw Punk/Rock/Grunge Sound from Central Victoria’s Breakout Band. Relays, a punk band hailing from Bendigo on DJAARA country release their highly anticipated self-titled debut album. Known for their unapologetically abrasive sound and non-politically correct lyrics, Relays offer a gritty take on the realities of middle to low-income Australia.
The album features a collection of hard-hitting tracks, including the standout “No One Fu#ks Me Like The ATO,” a scathing commentary on the frustration of paying taxes to a government entity that feels increasingly out of touch. Another notable track, “Eshay,” captures the tension of feeling unsafe at suburban train stations, taking aim at the invasive ‘Eshay’ subculture infiltrating modern suburbia.
With over 30,000 plays on Spotify, Relays have quickly made a name for themselves in the Australian underground punk scene. Their growing popularity has earned them a spot at the Chopped Festival, where they will perform alongside iconic bands like Cosmic Psychos, Delivery, and A. Swayze & The Ghosts.
Known for their blistering live shows, Relays deliver an element of unpredictability, largely thanks to the dynamic off kilter rizz of autistic frontman and guitarist Shann Lions. Completing the lineup are Mik Weird, whose rhythmic consistency drives the band’s sound, and bassist El Wellard, whose youthful energy brings an added edge to their performances.
The debut album was recorded live to two-inch tape at Head Gap Studio in Preston, with producer Shann Lions insisting on a ‘no bullsh#t overdubs’ approach. “Punk shouldn’t be too polished,” Lions stated, and this ethos is evident throughout the unfiltered sound of the album.
Relays’ self-titled debut album will be available on October 2 via the band’s Bandcamp (relayspunk.bandcamp.com) plus select indie record stores on Vinyl and Cassette.

KATIE BROOKE ‘A LITTLE DIRT’ (Single/Video)
Praised for her contemporary take on classic country sounds, Katie Brooke confronts her past on the reflective new single, ‘A Little Dirt’. The new single follows on from the singer-songwriter’s provocative hit, ‘Can’t Fake That’. The country proud bop rose to #26 on the Country Songs Top 40 Australian Airplay Chart, and secured spots on Apple Music’s ‘Aussie Country’ and ‘Back Porch Country’ editorial playlists.
In ‘A Little Dirt’, Katie holds herself accountable to a murky past. “A Little Dirt is a radically honest song about facing and owning life’s regrets,” she shares. “I certainly have regrets, especially from my 20’s when I was still figuring it all out and getting to know myself as an adult. Whilst there are many things I’d change if I had the chance, I’m also a firm believer in divine timing and that everything we experience on our individual timeline has a higher reason and rhyme.”
Despite the gravity of her challenges, the songbird endeavoured to bring a lighter tone to a heavy theme. “I chose a lighter feel to the song, a bright melody, an uplifting chorus,” she explains. “This is a song of support for anyone who feels the very common burden of regret, and that “should’ve, could’ve” feeling that no one escapes in life.”
The recording session, led by long-time producer, Rusty Crook, featured legendary fiddle player Jason Roller – well-known as a Nashville session player, guitarist for Alabama and Staff Band and guitarist at the Grand Ole Opry.
The single’s music video is brimming with visual symbolism. Shot in a woolshed on the outskirts of Tamworth with Jeremy Minnett of Eyes and Ears Creative at the helm, the duo had to get creative to tell their story. “We thought it would be a great idea to grab a hand full of dirt and get a shot of it falling through my hands – NOT as easy as you’d think!” laughs Katie. “The ground was really hard and dry, so I found a nice piece of dried cow poo, crumbled it up and used it for dirt! Cow poo is something I’m very familiar with living on a farm so it didn’t bother me so much.”
Katie’s inspiring brand of country music earned her a Grand Finalist spot in the 2023 Listen Up Music Songwriting Prize and has led her to stages alongside some of the best in the biz – Shannon Noll, The Black Sorrows and earlier this year, Brooke McClymont & Adam Eckersley. Along with a slew of headline shows in the calendar for later in the year, the singer-songwriter will appear at Coffs Coast Country Music Festival and the Tamworth Country Music Festival.
If you’ve seen Katie Brooke perform, you’d know that her style is just as on point as her music. Offstage, the boho cowgirl is a stylist and ambassador for Wrangler, Pure Western, Thomas Cook and Twisted X Boots.
“A little dirt just makes me who I am” Katie sings self-assuredly in the song’s chorus. With ‘A Little Dirt’, Katie Brooke showcases her ability to blend vulnerability with an uplifting melody. Her honest storytelling, combined with a fresh yet timeless sound, is certain to resonate with listeners.

HARRY HAYES ‘Baby’ (Single)
Eora/Sydney-based producer Harry Hayes returns with his latest single, ‘Baby’, a track that captures the full spectrum of emotions that come with being in love. Following his previous single, ‘I Love You’, and an official remix of Caribou’s hit ‘Broke My Heart’, Harry once again proves his prowess in creating music that resonates deeply with listeners while making waves in the industry.
‘Baby’ is a masterclass in emotional tension, with its intricate build-up leading to the ultimate payoff. Supported by Caribou in his DJ sets during his current world tour, this track has quickly become his most sought-after ID, which until now has been kept under lock and key. The anticipation surrounding ‘Baby’ is a testament to Harry’s ability to craft music that not only captures attention, but holds it, leaving listeners craving more.
Harry’s momentum shows no signs of slowing down. He has been handpicked as the official support act for Caribou’s highly anticipated Australian tour in January 2025, which includes performances at iconic venues such as The Enmore in Sydney, The Fortitude in Brisbane, and PICA in Melbourne. This opportunity underscores Harry’s rising profile and the growing recognition of his talent on both a national and international scale.
Driven by an unrelenting passion for creativity, Harry finds great satisfaction in seeing his artistic vision come to life in a piece of work he feels deeply connected to.
He shares, “To me, ‘Baby’ is a love song, dedicated to someone special in my life. Through this track, I aim to capture the full spectrum of emotions that come with being in love, guiding the listener through an emotional journey. Lyrically, I turned to the use of a simple recurring line that subtly evolves throughout the track, which I believe perfectly represents the essence of giving your all to someone you cherish. I hope that ‘Baby’ provides you the same sense of safety and security I felt when creating it.”
This dedication and passion have propelled Harry Hayes into the spotlight, earning him recognition from tastemakers and industry heavyweights alike. His previous singles, including ‘Thinkin of U’, ‘Better Than This’, ‘Pain Away’, and ‘Sunflower’, have garnered extensive support with editorial playlisting across all major streaming platforms. Harry’s ability to blend pop-inspired melodies with dynamic club sensibilities has solidified his status as one of the most exciting young producers to date.
In the lead-up to the release of ‘Baby’, Harry Hayes continues to captivate audiences, with a show at The Abercrombie on October 5th, and a headline performances at LOVE CLVB on Sydney’s Glass Island for the single launch on October 12th. With support from triple j and a rapidly growing fanbase, ‘Baby’ is set to be another milestone in Harry’s burgeoning career.

ZAC CROSS BAND ‘Take The Blame’ (Single/Video)
Aussie Country rockers Zac Cross Band return with their heavy hitting single, ‘Take The Blame’. Coupling a sound that stretches the boundaries of Country music with vulnerable storytelling, ‘Take The Blame’ is a hard-rocking, bittersweet love letter. Frontman, Zac Cross, admits the life of a musician is often a “rollercoaster”, which can sometimes take our nearest and dearest for an unwanted ride.
“This was one of those songs that was written within an hour after having a bad day,” he reveals. “The song also doubles as an apology to the people that are affected by the ups and downs and the highs and lows that is the music industry. ‘Take The Blame’ attempts to take responsibility for the difficulties that a person can put on a relationship while riding these highs and lows.”
The boys have been busy at work this year with producer Jared Adlam (Adam Brand and Matt Cornell), crafting singles for their debut album. However, ‘Take the Blame’ was never intended to make the cut. “We had another song picked for this release, which was locked and loaded and ready to go, until we recorded ‘Take The Blame’. Our release schedule originally had it pegged to drop late 2025, but we immediately knew that we could not wait on this one. We sent it to many people within our team and the response made it a no-brainer, it has to come out now.”
The track cleverly superimposes a weighty theme over uplifting music. “There’s a really cool grey area there that can have an emotional effect and can make the lyrical content super relatable to the listener. We think we’ve found a real sweet spot within our sound for this one!”
The Rockhampton 4-piece pulled out all the stops on the song’s music video, flying a helicopter into the guitar solo. “The big moment, by far, is Lachlan’s solo in a big cloud of dust at sunset with the chopper flying overhead. He is a big Guns N Roses fan and we gave him his ‘November Rain’ moment!”
The boys’ previous single, ‘Matter of Time’ peaked at #12 on the Country Radio Charts, while 2024 has proved to be a massive year on tour. They’ve rocked festivals like Baralaba Bash, Country on Keppel and most recently Gympie Music Muster, while supporting legends The Wolfe Brothers and Jon Stevens. In 2025 their sights are set on a national headline tour.
With ‘Take The Blame’, Zac Cross Band continue to push the boundaries of Aussie country rock, blending raw emotion with hard-hitting music. As the band builds momentum, both on tour and in the studio, they’re proving that their distinctive sound and storytelling are here to stay.

STEFANIE PASSIONE ‘Falling For You’ (Single)
Stefanie Passione is striking again with her latest sensual pop/dance/R&B jam ‘Falling For You’.
Since debuting in 2018, Passione has been dominating her hometown of Perth, making her mark on the Australian music scene with her alluring pop. At that time, she released a handful of pulsating singles, but it was in 2023 that Passione honed her brand, setting up her niche of rich, enticing songs perfect for clubbing.
The latest in her lineup is ‘Falling For You’, a sensual R&B trip about being vulnerable, lowering your defences and reluctantly falling in love. With its catchy push-pull hook, electric strobing, and its pulsing bass, this song captures the wavy feeling of a fresh love.
Reflected in its name, this song explores how it feels to trip and fall for someone and the romantic cravings that come with it. The slow, intimate R&B nature of the song is a perfect echo of the lead-up to love. It explores the addictive, slow succumbing to yearning at the early stages of a relationship, playing on the butterfly feeling in early relationships and the process of letting yourself be vulnerable. As reflective as this song is, it’s also fun, groovy, and danceable, making it truly versatile. Stefanie describes the song as,
“It’s a song about slowly letting your guard down and realising that although you didn’t mean for it to happen, you have fallen for someone and you’re past the point of being able to deny it.”

The four-minute-plus track opens with a menacing bass line from Duff McKagan, accompanied by Mike Bordin’s building drumbeat, followed by Cantrell’s ominous first words… “I Want Blood.” The song was co-produced, as the album was, by Cantrell and Joe Barresi (Tool, Queens of the Stone Age, Melvins).
Cantrell has previously shared two tracks from the album. The first, “Vilified,” was featured in an extensive interview with Rick Beato, where Cantrell discussed its use of the talkbox, calling back to his earlier Alice In Chains releases. The second preview, “Afterglow,” was praised by Revolver, who feature Cantrell on their current cover, as “anxiety-stirring” and “eerie,” while Metal Hammer simply called it “brilliant.” A haunting video directed by award-winning photographer and filmmaker Matt Mahurin accompanied the song’s release, which Mahurin described as “a welcome fever dream that I was grateful to lure out of my mind’s eye.”
I Want Blood was recorded at Barresi’s JHOC Studio in Pasadena, Calif., and features contributions from McKagan, Bordin, Robert Trujillo (Metallica), Greg Puciato (Better Lovers, ex-Dillinger Escape Plan), Gil Sharone (Team Sleep, Stolen Babies), and Lola Colette.
A North American tour will be announced soon. Ahead of that, Cantrell plays a sold-out, one-off show at Pappy & Harriet’s on the eve of the album’s release, followed by a brief South American tour, including a stop at Fauna Primavera.
I Want Blood is available on CD, digitally, and multiple 2LP vinyl variants: https://bio.to/JerryCantrell. A bonus spoken word version of each song on I Want Blood is included with each vinyl release.

INNERWISH ‘Higher’ (Single/video)
INNERWISH stand for melodic and melancholic heavy metal, played in a powerful and dynamic way. Their story began in Athens in 1995, and in their almost 30 years of existence they didn’t only manage to be one of the most important metal bands from Greece, but also to establish themselves as a much-respected band in the European metal scene.
Greek metal sextet INNERWISH have just unveiled their new single ‘Higher’ taken from their new studio album Ash Of Eternal Flame, which is due on November 8, 2024 through Reigning Phoenix Music (RPM). ‘Higher’ immediately raises expectations by its title alone, but also meets them with ease. Powerful riffing, soaring vocals, and touching lyrics consisting of a father’s love letters to his child make the song a must for each and every melodic metal fan.
Watch the official video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qV16cDAw5oI
Stream/purchase ‘Higher’: https://innerwish.rpm.link/higherPR
The band state: “This is one of our most favourite songs of the album and – to be honest here – the one we were afraid it wouldn’t end up in the album due to it being way different than the others! But Henrik Udd’s excellent mixing somehow dispelled our fears and we’re more than happy to share it with you! The lyrical story of this song is about a father talking to his first born child. In this case, it’s a son and in particular the one of our singer George, but you can project it onto any child you want obviously: the feelings of the father, his thoughts, his anxieties, his will to always be there for his child – even after leaving this world.”
Ash Of Eternal Flame can be pre-ordered physically [ltd. CD-digipak or ltd. coloured vinyl], pre-saved on your favourite digital service provider (DSP), or pre-orderd digitally to receive ‘Higher’ and ‘Sea Of Lies [feat. Hansi Kürsch]’ instantly, here: https://innerwish.rpm.link/aoefPR
The album Ash Of Eternal Flame features two distinct cover designs by Giannis Nakos of Remedy Art Design (known for his work with AMARANTHE, KAMELOT, ARION, and more). The blue version is used for both the CD and digital formats, while the red version is reserved for the vinyl edition. The album includes twelve tracks (including a bonus cover version for physical formats), recorded at LoNe and Devasoundz Studios in Athens, Greece under the guidance of producer Fotis Benardo. Mixing and mastering were handled by award-winning engineer Henrik Udd, who has worked with acts like HAMMERFALL, POWERWOLF, and SEPTICFLESH.
With a diverse range of lyrical themes — spanning social and global issues, personal struggles, mythology, and even fantasy — INNERWISH are poised to shine brighter than ever with Ash Of Eternal Flame. Musically, the album cements their legacy as a formidable force in the melodic metal scene.

Guitarist Sascha Gerstner comments: “‘Best Time’ captures the energy and the moment when everything fits together perfectly and you leave everything negative behind. For me, this track is an anthem for all those nights when you’re heading towards the future. That’s why it conveys exactly this mood in concert, as if you were living in a single great moment that lasts forever.”
This release celebrates the grand finale of HELLOWEEN’s epic world tour from 2022 to 2023. Spanning over 30 countries on three continents, the tour was nothing short of a triumph, drawing massive crowds and showcasing the band’s undying appeal, the sold-out concert in Tokyo is the crowning glory of the cycle. Known for their explosive stage presence and high-voltage performances, HELLOWEEN’s shows are fueled by the unique chemistry among the band members. Triple lead-guitar attacks from Michael Weikath, Kai Hansen, and Sascha Gerstner alternate with goosebump-inducing duets from vocalists Michael Kiske and Andi Deris, occasionally supported by Kai Hansen, the band’s original singer and third voice. He also takes the spectators on a journey back in time with a medley from the band’s early days, returning to the origins of their sound – HELLOWEEN, the godfathers of melodic speed metal.
Choosing the Nippon Budokan for this live recording was no coincidence. A venue rich in musical history, it has hosted countless legendary concerts and is an accolade for every music group that has played there. HELLOWEEN are the first German band ever to record a live album in the Nippon Budokan, and for the members it was a dream come true.
Lead vocalist Michael Kiske described the show as “surreal, with the electrifying fan energy creating a magical atmosphere.” Bassist Markus Grosskopf spoke of the venue’s profound personal and historical significance, expressing how humbling and inspiring it was to perform in a place that shaped their own musical journeys.
The live recording’s technical brilliance is another highlight. With 29 cameras capturing every nuance, the production team ensured that each moment of the concert is preserved in stunning detail. This attention to detail means the Blu-ray and DVD versions offer an immersive viewing experience, making fans feel like they are right there in the front row.
The setlist of this live album is a treasure trove of surprises, contains the entire 2-hour+ show and offers a fresh experience compared to previous releases like “United Alive” [2019]. This thoughtful song selection honors both the die-hard fans craving something new and the band’s rich musical legacy, showcasing their evolution and expansive repertoire.
This live album is more than just a concert recording; it’s a celebration of HELLOWEEN’s enduring impact on the metal scene. It promises to bring the magic of an unforgettable performance straight into fans’ homes, offering a piece of music history that embodies the spirit and energy of a legendary band at their peak.

SEX ON TOAST – ‘Pegasus’ (Album)
A brand new album from legendary Melbourne act, Sex on Toast, has made its grand debut today (Wednesday, October 16). With Hollywood surrealism, old-world glamour, edgy funk, and the feel of a coming-of-age movie, this is ‘Pegasus’.
After 20 years in the game, Sex on Toast have reached icon status. They’ve been selling out numerous live shows since 2014, recently opened for Todd Rundgren for his 2024 Australian tour, and gained over 13 million streams on their single ‘Oh, Loretta’, proving their cultural impact is undeniable. Proving that further, they’ll be taking Australia by storm on yet another national tour in November and December.
With an enviable back catalogue that covers a gamut of musical styles, their lush legacy gains another shining star in their latest album. 3 years in the making, Sex on Toast is emerging with their most ambitious work yet: ‘Pegasus’ delivers a luscious, energetic, moody new album that takes the listener on an unforgettable sonic journey. Drawing from an array of influences such as theatrical rock, film soundtracks, noise, and Motown, ‘Pegasus’ tells a story in two parts: part fantasy, part reality.
Composed in Los Angeles in 2020, and recorded slowly but surely in Melbourne between 2021-2023, this record blends Australiana with Hollywood charm like a dream. This record features more than 36 credited musicians, who are anywhere from Australian jazz legend Barney McAll, to cult comedy hero Neil Hamburger; this album features the cream of the crop of Australia’s jazz and classical world and the cast of regulars and veterans you’d expect from a Sex on Toast release.
The album begins with ‘Opening Credits’, in which the orchestra begins a soundtrack to a bizarre film, and the story unfolds from there. ‘Somebody Like You’ flows on from that into what could be the opening scene of the album, a groovy and boppy start. ‘Never Let Go’ is packed with groovy riffs, twinkling sounds, and airy backing vocals, melding from the daydream start of the album into something more melancholy, flowing into ‘Take Your Mask Off (And Love Me Tonight)’, a slower, sensual, jazzy jam with horns and keyboard synth. More instruments join in as the song builds up to a truly groovy out-of-the-box experience.
‘Pegasus Rising’ follows in a magical piano daze, a truly moody instrumental piece with old Hollywood energy. Following is a monologue, ‘Neil Hamburger’s Two Cents’, an ironic takedown of the album it’s featured on, with Neil Hamburger’s accent feeling right at home with the theatrical energy. The cutting comments are quickly proven false by the next track, ‘But You Still Whine?’, a retro, synth-infused, melancholic song that would feel right at home in the climax of a John Hughes movie.
‘Another One’ acts as a rude awakening, starting with discordant noises before launching into a more rock n’ roll beat, referencing the riff from the last song with a minor twist as melancholy turns to anger. The song ends with garbled radio static to change the mood, priming the listener for the next song, ‘Layin’ Next To You’, a slow, acoustic personal reflection, which brings back the synth towards the end of the song. ‘Ooo Yeah’ is short and curious, with instruments that seem to spiral around each other and play together for the short duration of the song.
The penultimate song on the album is ‘Prelude To A Cat’, a brief acoustic dalliance before ‘Enrique’ begins, ending the album on a stripped-back song which lets the singer’s strong voice really shine with the muzak beat and vulnerable lyrics, like someone trying to play it cool on their hardest day.
Sex on Toast’s legacy continues in ‘Pegasus’, out now, via Tonay Records! Catch them on tour throughout November and December – details below.

TIM WITHANO ‘Bondi Sand’ (Single)
Tim is an award-winning artist who has vast experience performing live playing his original music as well as playing the lead role in a theatre production dedicated to the music of James Taylor for a number of years.
Tim was signed to Herb Alpert’s publishing company Essex Music in Australia until his contract was bought by Warners Chappell. Tim is now a free agent and owns the copyright to all of his songs. Although Tim has had Top 10 success on the country charts in Australia with his acoustic band, “Strum”, his music as a solo artist covers a wide range of genres.
His actual name is Timo (he moved from Finland with his family when he was a toddler) and as long as he can remember he has had to tell everyone he meets that his name is Tim with an “o”. When it came to launching his solo career he decided that Tim Withano would be an appropriate stage name :).
Tim is very much a do-it-yourself guy. He plays guitars that he actually builds himself and records all of his songs in his home studio. Tim also produces his own videos. His videos for Bondi Sand and Bob Dylan and Me are on Youtube.

SELFLESS ORCHESTRA ‘Absonant’ (Single out Nov 6)
Western Australian post-rock band Selfless Orchestra are a group that stands for social and cultural issues. With the release of their second album Terra Nullius, on the horizon, the group unveils their latest single, Absonant (out 6 November), alongside a launch/ fundraising event for ‘Save Our Songlines‘ as a response to how fossil fuel mining companies are destroying Murujuga, a significant site of ancient Aboriginal rock art and starting place of the seven sisters song line on the Burrup Peninsula.
Influenced by bands such as Godspeed! You Black Emperor, Sigur Ros, Mogwai, and Mono, and inspired by the efforts of those fighting for justice and freedom for the environment and those marginalised or oppressed, Steven Alyian (he/him), the band’s guitarist and leader shares that “This song [Absonant] like all others on our upcoming album responds to the impact of the designation ‘Terra Nullius’ has had on the relationship to our land and the traditional owners of these places.”
Opening with swirls of electric guitar and strings, Absonant delectably evolves throughout its near-7-minute duration, with grounding bass, driving drums, the subtle hammer of keys, and accents of ethereal vocals providing rich textures to this bold symphony. Capturing feelings of sorrow and rage, underpinned with glimmers of love and hope that harmony can be rekindled, the message that “enough is enough” when it comes to the desecration of historical sacred sites and the loss of knowledge that is held within them is weaved throughout the song’s tapestry, alongside a deep yearning for awareness, action, and change.
Originally written on guitar by Steven on country whilst doing activist projects in the central desert, “the song was taken to the orchestra and expanded into this version that was tracked as a live take in Loop studios in Perth. Only the vocals are overdubbed, but the entire instrumental recording is a single take of all musicians in the room together. This is how we always record, as an organic being dynamically reacting in real-time, capturing the essence and the reality of how we perform together, no headphones, amps blasted at each other, a cacophony of sound that is messy, wild, but honest.”
Praised for their compelling, immersive, and dynamic live performances, Selfless Orchestra will take to the stage to launch Absonant with a show at Fremantle Arts Centre – on Saturday, 16 November.
Co-presented with Disrupt Burrup Hub, the event will celebrate efforts so far and raise funds, with all proceeds being donated to the traditional owners on the ground at ‘Save Our Songlines‘.
Tickets available now via Oztix
Selfless Orchestra’s new single Absonance is out 6 November via Stock Records
PANDA BEAR ‘Defense’ (Single) ‘Sinister Grift’ (Album out Feb 28, 2025)
Panda Bear, the solo project of Animal Collective’s Noah Lennox, announces his new full-length Sinister Grift, due out February 28, 2025 via Domino. Lennox recorded the album at his Estudio Campo in Lisbon, Portugal and co-produced it with his Animal Collective bandmate Josh Dibb. Today he shares the album’s first single ‘Defense’, which features Cindy Lee, the persona of Canadian musician Patrick Flegel, on guitar.
Watch the ‘Defense’ Video Here
A 7″ single of ‘Defense’ will be available only at select indie retail stores globally this Friday, October 18. The single’s B-side features a new track, ‘Virginia Tech’, which is exclusive to the 7”.
Two decades since debuting as the masked-and-nicknamed drummer and vocalist of Animal Collective, Noah Lennox has led so many creative lives, navigated so many different styles, and been part of so many beloved recordings, that it can be easy to overlook just how consistent his creative vision has remained. From landmark solo albums like 2007’s Person Pitch and 2015’s Panda Bear Meets the Grim Reaper, to breakthroughs with Animal Collective like 2004’s Sung Tongs and 2009’s Merriweather Post Pavilion, to his boundary-pushing collaborations with Daft Punk, Solange, Dean Blunt, Paramore and Jamie xx, all of his work followed an instantly identifiable emotional through line while influencing multiple generations and genres of artists.
On Sinister Grift, Lennox’s first solo album in five years, he has returned with another statement that feels equally cumulative and unprecedented in his catalog. While his solo records have ranged from starkly intimate expressions of grief to colorful, electronic opuses, his music has never before sounded so warm and immediate. Working in his Lisbon, Portugal home studio with Animal Collective bandmate Josh ‘Deakin’ Dibb, Lennox transforms Panda Bear into something resembling an old-school rock ensemble, playing nearly all the instruments himself and inviting kindred spirits into the process such as Cindy Lee, Spirit of the Beehive’s Rivka Ravede, and—for the first time on a Panda Bear solo album—each of his Animal Collective bandmates.
Today Panda Bear announces his 2025 North American tour, including a run with Toro y Moi, as well as EU/UK dates in December of this year and March 2025.

BIG WHEELS ‘Lose on You’ (Single)
“Lose on You” is the latest single from Big Wheels, carving out their space in both the Australian and UK scene.
With early 2000’s soft rock and britpop influences, the track’s lyricism centers around a self-reflective conversation – realizing that a certain situation is no longer good for you and embracing the empowerment that comes with letting go. STREAM HERE
This is the first release from the band’s debut EP, due Autumn 2025, recorded over the past four months in the UK.
Produced by Michael Smith (Wolf Alice, Elvis Costello), this is Big Wheels’ third collaboration with the acclaimed London producer. With industry buzz already building, the single is paired with a music video directed by Paul Gallagher, the renowned visual artist and brother of Liam and Noel Gallagher (Oasis).
Fronted by co-lead singers Cass Ford and Lawson Doyle, Big Wheels combine ethereal, introspective songwriting with driving melodies, delivering a heartfelt anthem for those navigating personal growth.
ABOUT BIG WHEELS
Meet Big Wheels, the electric cocktail of rock nostalgia and sun-soaked flair co-fronted by Cass Ford & Lawson Doyle. Having just returned from a 4-month stint in the UK to record their highly anticipated debut EP (due April 2025) as well as performing a sold-out London headline show, the band have announced their newest elixir of golden rock, ‘Lose on You’ – out on all platforms October 16.
What began back in the sleepy suburbs of the Sunshine Coast in late 2021, fuelled by a shared love for the likes of Fleetwood Mac, Oasis, The Black Keys, and an introspective nature towards the highs, lows, realities and frustrations of life has expanded to new heights both nationally and internationally.
“Big Wheels feel as if they’re breathing new life into an old band, yet their sound feels incredibly modern. It’s clear from the off that this sonically dynamic song was made to be sung to big crowds.” Darci Jackson, RGM PRESS
Big Wheels have quickly become ‘ones to watch’ while embarking on national tours with the likes of DICE and The Rions, supporting San Cisco, Pacific Avenue and Rum Jungle and gracing festivals such as Spaced Out (AUS) and The Great Escape (UK). With success of singles ‘Colourblind’ and ‘Daydreams’ receiving airplay on Triple J and BBC Music Introducing, the band are now gearing up for their own Australian East Coast headline tour to launch ‘Lose on You’, kicking off October 2024.
‘Lose on You’ is the first single from the band’s upcoming debut EP produced by Michael Smith (Wolf Alice, Elvis Costello) – due for release April 2025. Reflecting on their latest work, they share, “Smith’s innate understanding of our vision as a band has really added depth and dimension to what we’re putting out there and we’re so excited to see where this goes.”
The arrival of the debut EP promises to be the most diverse creative showcase of the band yet, encompassing soulful ballads and all-out rock and roll bangers. Ford’s soulful and emotive delivery pairs seamlessly with Doyle’s raw and powerful vocals, creating a sonic tapestry that leaves a lasting impression and takes you down a rabbit hole of comforting relatability.

CHARLIE LANE ‘I’m Okay Now But I Wasn’t’ (ALBUM OUT OCTOBER 18)
With 11 tracks of raw, vulnerable, and honest emotion, Charlie Lane is sharing her debut album ‘I’m Okay Now But I Wasn’t’ with the world on Friday, October 18, and with it, a piece of her soul.
As a queer and disabled artist, Charlie Lane has a unique perspective on the world that she’s proud to share, and this perspective has fostered a base of passionate fans. With her iconic fusion of devastating lyrics and energetic music, she’s carved out her niche in the Melbourne music scene.
This album is a beautiful onslaught of undiluted emotion. Beginning the album strong with ‘Gold Drips’, Charlie Lane takes this track to reclaim her voice. An energetic, passionate chorus is partnered with pondering verses with themes about setting herself free. It builds up with groovy basslines with crunchy electric guitar riffs towards the end of the song as Charlie grows more confident and comes into herself.
‘Ginger’ follows next. Her first song, written at just 16, with beautiful string instruments and charming gospel backing vocals, is now featured as the second song on her debut album years later. It’s a testament to how far she’s come.
The third song on the album is ‘Fifty Shades of Bruised’. With acoustic guitar, strings, ghostly backing vocals, and Louis Spencely on tambourine, this is a sad, forlorn song with an alt-country feel. It explores how she doesn’t know if she deserves the love she gets. It questions whether she should embrace it or push it away.
Following that is ‘Dance With You’, a nervous but hopeful song, overthinking a rejection that hasn’t happened yet. With retro, sparkling synth, warm guitar, and yearning vocals, this song is an anxious, almost teenaged plea to be noticed by a crush.
The next song, ‘Gone’, is a devastating song about itching to end it all in a place where no one knows you, built on a cheerful beat. This song is a bitter pill to swallow, coated in a layer of sugar.
‘I Hate Me’ builds on that theme of internalised emotions, dwelling on self-hatred set to soft drums and gentle guitar riffs that melts into a pop-punk, high-energy song and back as the song morphs that self-hatred stays.
‘I Need Sleep’ is another forlorn song, soft and sad, based on her experience in a shitty share-house full of arguments and fighting that kept her awake. The synth builds up, but it’s taken back to just guitar in the final verse to play on how this sort of thing can always come back.
Following that is ‘Tears’. Charlie says that this is the toughest song she’s ever written – she never planned to release it in the first place. It explores her experiences with domestic abuse.
The next song was written during the COVID lockdowns. ‘Walls’ is about the agoraphobia that she developed, where everything was terrifying to her, and she felt like she had to shut herself away. The song itself is gentle, with reserved guitar and beautiful mournful vocals.
Then, ‘Why Aren’t You Listening?’ was written about being the black sheep even though she echoes the qualities of her parents and how being raised in a broken home and carrying that generational trauma affects her even to this day. The guitar and drums are bittersweet but catchy enough to tap your foot to.
‘I Can’t Do Much’ offers a gentle, positive end to the album; the song is built up on a groovy riff and beat that shifts to a more punk with amped-up guitar and drums, then shifts to retro synth and an 80’s rock vibe. It makes this song an upbeat end to the album, highlighting positive nihilism– she can’t do much, so she might as well enjoy what she can.
This final track is a careful piece of music, worked on gently by a group of musicians who helped Charlie bring it together. Because of Adam Heath, Rohan Sforcina, Jasmine Johnston, Louis Spencely and Jet Kalt, Charlie’s immensely proud of what this song turned out to be.
‘I’m Okay Now But I Wasn’t’ was a special experience for Charlie Lane, getting to collaborate with her friends to create the most authentic debut album possible. Take part in this experience when it comes out on Friday, October 18. Then, catch Charlie Lane performing live throughout Victoria in November and December; more details are below.

STORMY-LOU ‘Falls Away’ (Single)
Kaurna/Adelaide-based indie rock foursome Stormy-Lou look towards a new season of music with Autumnal gloomy rocker Falls Away. Produced by Lucinda Machin (The Tullamarines), this new track embraces a charging drive with crushing guitars and a devastating story that sparks anthemic levels. The release is partnered with a homegrown music video by Eve Burner (Sunsick Daisy) and a Halloween-themed extravaganza at the infamous Tarndanya venue, The Crown and Anchor Hotel. Falls Away out now via Swirl Records.
Falls Away states its purpose from the very start; the hook ‘HOLD ONTO ME’ belted with harmonies from front-woman Mik Stoker and bassist Alex Flynn Taylor. Unrelenting drums pair with a constant profile of guitars as Alex tells their story of seasonal depression and troubled relationships. Heavily inspired by strong Australian rockers Sly Withers, Carla Geneve, and Gang of Youths, this track is sure to provide a strong bassline for a great new season of music, with the single being featured on their upcoming debut EP: See Ya, Love Ya, Bye! (Feb 2025).
Stormy-Lou bassist Alex writes: “When I wrote the song, I was living alone during winter and emotionally spent. I wanted to write something that hit the feels but at the same time, got people yelling at the top of their lungs.”
“I was definitely inspired by a lot of music and lyrics from Sly Withers and Carla Geneve who are super skilled at tapping into melancholy goodness with an edge that absolutely rips through ya. Our producer Cin [Lucinda Machin] definitely used those artists (particularly their shared song ‘Lately’) to influence the mix and give it that driving feel.”
“There’s a fair bit of romantic stuff in here which just flew out of my head but the second verse is about my dad and I really spent time trying to cook something heavy-hitting. People can read the song however they like and I want them too – if it’s romantic to them, that’s dope – but I wrote this about my mental health and I hope people see that personal side too.”
“Also, don’t get too used to hearing my voice on Stormy-Lou tracks, Mik will still be front and centre. It just felt right for me to tell this particular story.”
Port Adelaide-based creative Eve Burner directs Falls Away music video, a story of seasonal depression and losing loved ones, releasing with the single. On October 31st, the band celebrates the single with a Halloween Extravaganza at the South Australian Music Hall of Fame inductee: The Crown and Anchor Hotel. The show also celebrates the recent ‘saving’ of the infamous venue with Halloween dress-up and performances from The Toothpicks (Gadigal/Sydney) and Perfect 50 (Kaurna/Adelaide).
