With a career spanning five decades, Mike McClellan, one of Australia’s most enduring, acclaimed and respected singer-songwriters, has announced a run of new concert dates throughout October and November, 2025.
Though seemingly ageless, with no desire to stop performing, Mike has suggested that this tour will be the last long one he will undertake.
Mike explains: “At this stage of my life, I want time to concentrate on the projects I have set myself. They include finishing my memoir which takes 80 of my lyrics from across my entire career and builds my history around them, talking about what was going on in my life at the time, what influenced each song, who I was working and touring with, along with some comments on the art of writing great lyrics plus a few technical skills required to write good songs. It is almost finished – it’s about 90,000 words with perhaps another 6 or 7 thousand left to go”
Mike continues: “I also need to finish the writing and record a final album of new songs. I will record it solo – acoustic guitar and a few overdubs from me and may also re-record a couple of my older songs as well. I am aiming to get it done and dusted in the first half of next year”
Mike adds: “I also want to finish a novel which I had begun some time ago and put to one side. There is probably a good 12 to 18 months of work required to finish it. It’s a compelling story that grew out of one I was told by an elderly aboriginal guy when I was touring many years ago”
The new 2025 concert dates will include songs from his expansive song catalogue, including his classic hits Song and Dance Man, the Vanda and Young produced The One I Love, plus more from his wonderful series of late career albums including his powerful composition, Letter to America from hi 12th studio album Behind Every Mask, for which Bob Dylan gave him permission to use a line from one of his lyrics.
Through these concerts Mike explores his life’s work, the songwriters and players who influenced him and the performers who have recorded his songs. He’s a masterful story-teller who, in the words of reviewer Steve Britt, “holds the audience in the palm of his hand.”
