EMMA DONOVAN SHARES SUMPTUOUS NEW SINGLE + VIDEO TAKE ME TO THE RIVER
One of Australia’s most celebrated voices, proud Gumbaynggirr and Yamatji artist Emma Donovan dips into soulful waters with a sumptuous cover of Al Green’s 1974 hit Take Me To The River. The new track arrives alongside a deeply personal music video.
In a match made in heaven, Emma’s warm, velvety vocals mark the beginning of her new solo soul era, infused with her trademark storytelling and deep sense of personal connection. “I’m quite nervous releasing a song like Take Me To The River because the Al Green version is such an iconic version, and it’s a big song!” shares Emma. “But it’s exciting and good to share my perspective on it. A song like Take Me To The River is similar to an Archie Roach song like Get Back To The Land. It’s about filling that cup up after a big breakup, going to look for that Country, looking for that water, to cleanse and feel good. I love my connection to that song and I’m excited to share it.”
“My take on this song is really about family and community,” Emma continues. “We always talk about going up the river, that’s our outlet. We go fishing, we go swimming, we go to hang out, and we take the little ones and we’re there with family. We’ve been following my nannas and my grandfathers for years to the river. So hopefully, with that bit of language that we translated, people will feel the connection to that.”
No stranger to soulful territory after fronting acclaimed outfit The Putbacks, Emma’s new take on Take Me To The River also carries threads of her lifelong love of gospel and country. “In my new soul era, I would have to describe it still with country and gospel in there,” she explains. “All of those things also make up soul. There’s also a lot of soul in country, and I believe country and gospel need to be included in soul! And the other parts of my soul era are family and connection.”
“For the single itself I worked closely with Ben Edgar who has been playing guitar for me for a while, and he’s been doing most of our recordings,” Emma adds. “He pulled that sound at his home studio in Melbourne, in Belgrave. I also worked with David Symes (Boy & Bear) on this one — he plays bass on the track too. Me, Ben and David all put our three heads together for Take Me To The River.”
Adding her own unique charm to Al Green’s original, Emma weaves her personal narratives into both the song and its compelling companion video. “A lot of the concept and a lot of the story behind the clip is re-enacting some old photos and some memories that I have with family and fishing and the river,” she shares. “A lot of the reenactment is me as a little kid, but played by my own daughters in the present day. Because my grandparents were so active in my music — they were musical people and they would also fish and take us to the river — I’ve got an Aunty and Uncle just like them in the clip too.”
“For the song itself, I was channelling my nanna, my mum and her brothers,” Emma continues. “I grew up having these big fishing trips up the river of Kempsey, a little place in Northern NSW. We used to have huge trips there. Now, it’s probably not as big, but when I was a kid, we’d take all these cars full of kids and families, and we’d go out onto the back areas of the river near the airport at Kempsey. My grandmother would have to get permission to go on properties — these white fellas had bought properties, but they were at the back of the river. So, we’d go and my nan would make friends, or she’d have some connection to a lot of people who owned these properties. These were areas she’d been to when she was growing up, so I was channelling a lot of my grandmother and all of the family trips that we had going to the river in this song.”
Widely regarded as one of Australia’s most beloved voices, Emma Donovan’s career spans over two decades. The proud Gumbaynggirr and Yamatji artist has carved a singular path that fuses gospel, country and soul with the storytelling traditions of her culture. First emerging as a teenager with Stiff Gins, Emma went on to front The Putbacks, whose albums Dawn (2014), Crossover (2020) and Under These Streets (2021) earned her critical acclaim and cemented her as a vital force in Australian music. Having performed on iconic stages including WOMADelaide, Bluesfest Byron Bay and the Sydney Opera House, Emma has become a guiding voice for the next generation of First Nations artists, and in 2021 was inducted into the National Indigenous Music Awards Hall of Fame alongside her family band The Donovans. Emma’s previous album Til My Song Is Done was nominated for an ARIA last year and won an AIR Award this year.
On the horizon, Emma will perform a special multidisciplinary show — also titled Take Me To The River — that reimagines her catalogue with powerful new arrangements, visuals and storytelling. Following its premiere at Darwin Festival, the show will appear at the Melbourne International Jazz Festival this month and Sydney Festival in 2026, marking the latest chapter in a career defined by truth, power and an unwavering commitment to song.
“With these upcoming performances, fans can expect a deeper connection to these songs,” says Emma. “I love storytelling, I love putting my own spin on things. And playing live, I’ll be sharing lots of reasons why these particular songs in the show mean so much to me. I feel like with my last album I focused so much on the family, country vibe, and the gospel vibes. So, it’s been a while since I’ve sat in the soul hot seat again. This is just me slowly driving back into that area!”
Leading this new chapter is her stirring new single Take Me To The River — a song that brings Emma’s journey full circle, connecting her past to her present and luminous future, and celebrating her lifelong love of soul.
“I mostly grew up on gospel music and country music because they were the old Mission-style songs from our family,” she shares. “I was straight-up country growing up. The genre I knew outside of country leant more towards blues. My father had a big blues collection — Robert Cray, Stevie Ray Vaughan, and LaVern Baker. That was close to soul, vocally. I had a bit of Ella Fitzgerald played to me too by my father.”
“My father actually introduced Aretha Franklin to me via the Blues Brothers film,” Emma continues, “where Aretha sings in the shop, she’s trying to hold off her husband from going on tour. She sings her song Think, and that was the first time I got to know a bit more soul. And then later on down the line I remember some friends sharing with me Renée Geyer’s album Sweet Life, my friend burnt that album and sent it to me.”
“I can’t go past a good soul song that comes from a breakup. There’s some heavy breakup sad songs that I know, and I guess it could be the country influences but I’m all over that like a rash,” Emma laughs. “Ann Peebles would sing I Can’t Stand the Rain – I love a good sad, hard soul song. They’re the things that I love and that make me tick.”

The Meanies have today released a new single and will be celebrating it with a run of shows in late October/early November.

Link says, “’Shutdown’ is sonically The Meanies at their sexiest. Bono would say ‘this record has hips’ to which I’d reply, ‘piss off Bono you pretentious twat’. You can dance to this one. I can’t, I’m a terrible dancer.”
With a b-side featuring Frenzal Rhomb and Perth punks Leeches! doing renditions of Meanies classics ‘Play This Song Each Night’ and ‘Scum’, the single is available on limited edition translucent red 7” vinyl and limited-edition gold 7” vinyl (250 of each colour) through a joint venture between Cheersquad Records & Tapes and Fantastic Mess Records. All covers will be hand-numbered. Cover art is by Link and Glenno Smith (Glenno Art).

ABOUT THE MEANIES – Starting out in ’88, following on from the late ’80s GOD/Bored scene and anticipating the subsequent successes of Spiderbait and Magic Dirt, the Meanies are genuine Melbourne icons and national treasures. Arriving at the same time as grunge, they defied the odds with a pop punk-meets-hardcore sound that preempted what was to come out of the US on labels like Epitaph and Fat Wreck Chords. They became Triple J and Big Day Out faves (they did the BDO in 1992, 1993, 1994 and 1999!) and kings of the all-ages circuit, and they toured their arses off, playing with the likes of Nirvana, The Lemonheads, Redd Kross, Beastie Boys, Pearl Jam and Bad Brains along the way. They toured Europe, the US and Japan and retain an international following. And like their older and uglier brethren The Cosmic Psychos, The Meanies are now enjoying a late career revival, which begun with the release of their first album in 21 years, It’s Not Me It’s You in late 2015 on Poison City Records. Desperate Measures was released in July 2020.

MAXINE GILLON ‘GIRL SONGS’ (ALBUM Out October 23)
Melbourne solo artist Maxine Gillon announces her debut album ‘Girl Songs’ with the last taste ahead of its release; ‘Back In Town’. The album is written, arranged, performed, recorded and produced by herself, is mixed by Wade Keighran (Dust), John Lee (Laura Jean) and Paul Annison (Flyying Colours) and is mastered by William Bowden (Gotye). It releases digitally on October 23rd with ‘Back In Town’ releasing on October 9th. The album itself takes Australian indie-rock to expansive and majestic new territory with production and sonics inspired by 60’s Wall-of-sound, 80’s ethereal glitz and modern dream-pop. The lyrics throughout are unconventionally exceptional, and reflect her imaginative, queer, poetic and witty vocabulary.
Across eight tracks, she presents snappy, hooky pop songs (‘Lipstick’, ‘Back In Town’, ‘The Last Time’) as well as stirring and atmospheric ballads (‘Grief Filled Avenues’, ‘Venus Of Brunswick East’, ‘Doctor Glas’), a dualism that is at the core of her artistry, with the same consistent sonic palette throughout. She caps off the album with a starkly reimagined full instrumentation cover of Tim Buckley’s ‘Song To The Siren’.
Maxine shares; “I wanted this album just to be a great batch of songs that present my skill and dedication to songcraft to listeners and to show what I can do in terms of using songwriting, production and arrangement to express a personal vision. The album title is poking fun at myself at the inspiration and lyrical content of most of the album; songs of sapphic desire, yearning, loss and fascination with women. It’s also preemptively labelling them as songs written and made by a woman that are overtly feminine and lush; crystalline gauzy guitar arpeggios, dreamy strings, velvety layers, & sensual and considered lyricism.”
‘The Last Time’ music video added to rotation on abc’s RAGE for 3 weeks so far (ongoing) and premiering on White light/White heat (Italy).
“Maxine Gillon is a Melbourne-based singer-songwriter whose cerebral and intelligent approach to music sets her apart in the indie rock scene. Her compositions are rich in lyrical depth and musical complexity, drawing listeners into a world of introspective exploration. – Deb Pelser, Backseat Mafia (on ‘Lipstick’)
She has had a considerable 2025 which saw her garnering a fast reputation for energetic and atmospheric live performances with her new backing band The Blue Jeans. She appeared at Punt Fest (amongst Party Dozen, The Pretty Littles & Queenie) and Brunswick Music Festival, as well as support slots with the likes of Simona Castricum & a headline Social Sanctuary show at Northcote Social Club.
Her previous work has been met with praise and plays from Spotify, Music Victoria, Music Feeds, Post-punk.com, RUSSH Magazine, NTS (UK), Fbi, and 2ser among others. As an artist and musician she has shared bills and stages with Jen Cloher, Underground Lovers, The Goon Sax, & Girl and Girl to name a few.
‘Back In Town’ is out digitally on October 9th, 2025. Her debut album ‘Girl Songs’ is out on October 23rd, 2025. Keep up to date with Maxine Gillon by following her on Instagram, Facebook and Bandcamp.

CHOKECHERRY ANNOUNCE DEBUT ALBUM RIPE FRUIT ROTS AND FALLS (ALBUM OUT NOVEMBER 14) BAND SHARES VIDEO FOR NEW SINGLE MAJOR THREAT
Chokecherry, comprised of vocalist/guitarist Izzie Clark and vocalist/bassist E. Scarlett Levinson, are thrilled to announce the November 14 release of their debut album Ripe Fruit Rots and Falls. Pre-save it here.
To celebrate this moment, chokecherry release the video for the angular new single Major Threat.
While chokecherry are known for crafting lush soundscapes, Major Threat, whose title nods to hardcore legends Minor Threat, is inherently punk rock and gritty, giving fans something they’ve not yet heard from the band. It’s jarring — in the best possible way. The accompanying visual, shot on VHS and delivered in just a few days, demonstrates the important DIY spirit at chokecherry’s core.
Stream Major Threat here and watch the music video co-directed by Clark and Whitney Otte here:
“I grew up on heavy surf punk — hello, Southern California — and this track brings me back to 2016-era mosh pits at the Teragram Ballroom in L.A. or the Velvet Jones in Santa Barbara,” Clark explains, tearing back the curtain and inviting the listener to fully immerse themself into the experience of the song. “Vocally, I was very inspired by Brendan Yates (Turnstile) and Zack de La Rocha (Rage Against the Machine). The inspiration for the track came from a (fleeting) feeling of being discarded. The accompanying video is co-directed and pokes fun at the hell that is the 21st century dating scene.”
Levinson weights in, saying, “Major Threat is one of the few currently recorded chokecherry tracks that really allows listeners to dip their toes into our live energy. This includes mosh pits, screaming, and running into the crowd mid-song. It’s a direct homage to the scenes that shaped us and continue to do so, calling on inspirations like Turnstile and Mannequin Pussy.”
She continues, “Of course, the bridge is packed out with classic chokecherry harmonies and layers, and the track concludes with a last-minute twist. The final lyrics are a nod to the toxic cycle of craving something (or someone) that’s rejecting you; it hurts like hell and drives you crazy, but in the end, getting left is probably for the best.”
Pulling from essences of their childhoods exposed to rock ‘n’roll, adolescent years spent exploring ’90s post-rock, pop, indie, alt-rock, hardcore, queer musicians, even metal, and their own young adulthood filled with small shows in the Bay Area from a plethora of artists and genres, chokecherry’s debut LP, produced by Chris Coady, Christopher Grant, and Zach Tuch, fearlessly pursues creating a snapshot in time, capturing the sonic culture of San Francisco, the political movements overflowing our senses in 2025, the social deterioration of empathy and humanity in the 21st century, and what it means to be human in a time where it feels like there are so few left. “The album isn’t about heartbreak over an individual — some of it is — but it’s from the state of the world. That’s what it is. It’s about heartbreak over the loss of childhood and the imagined future that you might have had when you were young, because that doesn’t exist. It’s actively been taken away from all of us and everything is being stripped before our very eyes, constantly, every single day,” says Levinson.
Within 10 tracks, chokecherry piece together the very essence of what it means to be a sentient being in this cruel world, Ripe Fruit Rots and Falls is a dichotomy in its entirety; introspective and panoramic, tender and intense, personal and social, post-rock and shoegaze, but so is the duality of man. chokecherry encompass all that is severely lacking – empathetic humanity.
chokecherry will embark on their first ever full North American headline tour, with special guests The Sewing Club. The trek kicks off with a West Coast record release show weekend, celebrating Ripe Fruit Rots and Falls with special guests Pure Hex. The California release weekend includes a hometown San Francisco show, in addition to shows in Los Angeles and Santa Ana.

GULLY BOYS RELEASE SELF-TITLED DEBUT ALBUM, GULLY BOYS
Gully Boys long-awaited debut album is finally here. A decade in the making, the Minneapolis band’s first full-length, Gully Boys, is out today and it’s a gut-wrenching snapshot of life for the four best friends who first met while working in a thrift store. It’s equal parts destructive vulnerability and hard-won catharsis, calling to mind bands like Mannequin Pussy, Deep Sea Diver, and Deftones.
There is nothing subtle about this record, and certainly not one of its standout moments: “Big Boobs.” Featuring prolific Minneapolis rapper Zora, its rhythm and chanting lyrics feel like a bold smack in the face, cheeky and audacious with every word.
“Collaborating with Zora was so special because we’re total fans of her and her work,” Gully Boys says. “In a music climate where there’s an emphasis on ‘curating a vibe’ or ‘being cool’, Zora has this really free, expressive, often sexy, sometimes campy, always effortless way of creating that’s incredibly refreshing.”
A full body experience from start to finish, Gully Boys is all about protecting what matters—your friends, your city, your identity—and embracing the kind of peace that only comes from living through the fire. While much of their previous music had been about churning in uncertainty, “we grew up and it got old,” the band says. Tracks like “Mother,” “Break,” and “Spit” show off a band unafraid to set and call out boundaries.
Another standout is “Murderapolis,” a song that points its finger at the lazy narratives painted about Minneapolis following Tim Walz’s nomination for VP. Written in the wake of that national vilification from suburban onlookers who had never even been to the city––and in the wake of George Floyd’s murder and the white flight that followed the uprising––this song is Gully Boys’ way of processing their collective trauma from it all.
Formed in the aisles of a thrift store in Minneapolis and grown over a decade of friendship, Gully Boys have transformed from DIY darlings to an absolute force of grit and melodic punch.
Vocalist/guitarist Kathy Callahan (she/her), guitarist Mariah Timm (they/them), bassist Natalie Klemond (she/her), and drummer Nadi McGill (they/them) have spent their entire 20s together and that gives Gully Boys a raw and genuine sort of power all its own.
Grounded in a bond as fierce as their sound, Gully Boys’ electrifying live performances have earned them spots on festival stages and tours alongside Nova Twins, Motion City Soundtrack, Destroy Boys, Bad Bad Hats, and more.

GIRL TONES STRIKE A MATCH ON NEW SINGLE “BURNOUT” — STREAM. BURN ALL THE EVIDENCE IN A FIERY BANK HEIST OFFICIAL VIDEO — WATCH
Rock duo Girl Tones release their guitar-driven, combustible new single “Burnout” via Parallel Vision x Big Loud Rock. Starting the song asking “Can you hear me now,” the band already knows everyone is hanging onto their every word. On October 7th, “Burnout” will be featured in a new episode of ABC’s High Potential starring Kaitlin Olson — Stream.
Setting out on an anxious bank robbing heist in the “Burnout” official video, directed by Casey Pierce in Nashville, Girl Tones are taking what they want and lighting all the evidence ablaze with their final match — Watch.
The band’s vocalist Kenzie shared, “‘Burnout’ is about our attention spans shrinking and the need for instant gratification. The pressure of constantly producing and consuming. How do we keep up without burning out? This song inspires me to slow down and enjoy the smaller things in life and preserve the creative spark at all costs.”
Girl Tones have had a nonstop year of undeniable momentum. Over the summer, they made their festival debut at Lollapalooza and Shaky Knees, with Austin City Limits up next. They also toured alongside The Velveteers, hey, nothing, Silversun Pickups and Cage The Elephant, with more shows with Cage The Elephant coming up this week. In November, Girl Tones will cross the pond to play London’s The Great Escape, as well as tour alongside Sunday (1994). See all upcoming dates here
ABOUT GIRL TONES: Girl Tones, of planet Earth, are a high-energy rock duo brought to life by two sisters named Kenzie and Laila. Both classically trained musicians, Kenzie transitioned from cello to guitar and Laila from piano to drums in an effort to electrify sentient beings from this galaxy to the next. Their debut releases were produced by Brad Shultz of Cage The Elephant and released via his label Parallel Vision in partnership with Big Loud Rock.
Their first offerings have earned the praise of Rolling Stone, VICE, Consequence, PAPER, NME, DORK and many others with Flaunt saying, “Their sound is fluid, and yet with each release, they evolve as a harmonious group, developing their unique sound as one.”
In their short but mighty existence, the duo has become synonymous with riotous live shows. Girl Tones has toured with Cage The Elephant across the globe, as well as The Velveteers, hey, nothing. and Silversun Pickups across North America. Making their unignorable festival debut at Lollapalooza this summer, Rolling Stone said, “While the White Stripes — their most obvious comparison — were about controlled energy, Girl Tones are proudly imperfect.”

CHRYSALIS RECORDS ANNOUNCE A 3-CD DELUXE EDITION OF TEN YEARS AFTER’S 1969 ALBUM, SSSH FEATURES THE ORIGINAL ALBUM NEWLY MIXED FROM THE ORIGINAL TAPES AND A NEWLY DISCOVERED LIVE RECORDING, SLEEVENOTES AND UNSEEN PHOTOS. ALSO AVAILABLE ON AS 2LP SET Out OCTOBER 31
PRE-ORDER LINK: https://tenyearsafter.lnk.to/Ssssh
Originally released in 1969, Ssssh marked Ten Years After’s breakthrough into mainstream rock, blending blues riffs with the raw energy of British psychedelia.
56 years later, Chrysalis are proud to present the album in its most expansive form to date. Featuring the original 1969 mix, the album has also been newly mixed by Charlie Russell from the original ¼ production multi-track tapes, offering superb fresh sonic detail, while the third disc contains a newly discovered live recording from the Finnish radio archives of the bands stunning performance at the Kulttuuritalo Hall in Helsinki on 3rd December 1969, recorded just months after the bands’ career-altering performance at Woodstock.
At the centre of this hardcover edition are newly written liner notes by Nigel Williamson, testimonial from Joe Bonamassa and previously unseen photographs.
The 2-LP vinyl edition was remixed from the original 7-track 1” master tapes and remastered by Phil Kinrade and cut at half-speed at AIR Mastering.
Ten Years After’s Leo Lyons on the deluxe reissue: “Ssssh was the first record that Ten Years After made on an 8-track machine rather than the four track machines used on previous albums. We could finally separate things out, experiment with overdubs, and actually hear the instruments breathe. Before that, you’d often have to bounce tracks together just to make room, which meant losing quality or committing to a sound too early in the process. I’m really looking forward to hearing the remixed and remastered record. There may be things in those old tapes that no one’s heard yet just waiting to be revealed.”

LAMB OF GOD RETURN WITH NEW SINGLE/VIDEO “SEPSIS”
Lamb of God return with their new single “Sepsis”, a visceral, menacing new single out now via Century Media Records / Epic Records (US/CAN), marking the GRAMMY® Award-nominated band’s first new original music since 2022’s critically revered album, Omens.
Watch the video for “Sepsis” here.
Produced by longtime collaborator Josh Wilbur, the three-and-a-half-minute track arrives alongside a grainy, lo-fi performance video that offers a moody, unfiltered look at Richmond’s underbelly. Directed by Gianfranco Svagelj, the video captures the song’s slow-burning tension.
“’Sepsis’ is a celebration of the very underground local bands here in Richmond that we really admired when we were just forming Burn the Priest,” Mark Morton shares. “Bands like Breadwinner, Sliang Laos, and Ladyfinger—though they never got widespread attention outside of Richmond, those were the bands we listened to all the time. The song references that stuff in a way that’s a direct line to where we were coming from when we were in the basement writing our earliest material together.”
Listen to Sepsis here
“Sepsis” arrives during a milestone year for Lamb of God. In 2025, the band celebrated the 25th anniversary of their discography, performed at the historic “Back to the Beginning” concert and subsequently released their thunderous take on Black Sabbath’s “Children of the Grave,” along with appearances at several festivals including Inkcarceration and Louder Than Life, and a headlining show at Richmond’s new 7500-seat outdoor venue, Allianz Amphitheater, during its opening season.
In addition, the band has signed a worldwide deal (excl. US/CAN) with Century Media Records. Dennis Moll, Head of A&R at Century Media Records, says about the signing: “We are beyond thrilled to welcome Lamb of God — one of the most iconic and influential bands in heavy music — to the Century Media Records family.
Their recent appearance at Ozzy Osbourne’s historic final show in Birmingham, along with their striking cover of Black Sabbath’s Children of the Grave, once again underlines their timeless importance and creative power within the scene. We are grateful for the trust the band and their team have placed in us, and we look forward to building an incredible new chapter together.”
As the year closes, Lamb of God have several performances ahead of them, including outings at Aftershock, AMMA Championship Fest, and the band’s Headbangers Boat cruise (Oct. 31 to Nov. 4) – a four-day floating festival departing from Miami with a stop in Cozumel, Mexico. The line-up features performances from Clutch, Kublai Khan TX, Power Trip, Obituary, Devil Driver, Fear Factory, The Black Dahlia Murder, The Exploited, Crowbar, Nekrogoblikon, Eighteen Visions, Gideon, Walls of Jericho, Category 7, Brat, comics Josh Potter and Saul Trujillo, with appearances from Jose Mangin and Riki Rachtman. Tickets are available at Headbangersboat.com.
Lamb of God is Randy Blythe (vocals), John Campbell (bass), Mark Morton (guitar), Willie Adler (guitar) and Art Cruz (drums). Formed in 1994, the Richmond, Va.-based band has released nine critically-acclaimed albums, received five GRAMMY® Award nominations, sold over 3 million albums, packed arenas around the world, and tallied over one billion streams and counting. Widely regarded as one of the most influential and innovative forces in modern heavy music Lamb of God’s most recent collection, Omens, arrived in late 2022 , marking their sixth consecutive album to debut in the Top 15 of on the Billboard 200. Kerrang! notied that the album finds the band “as reliably heavy, violent, and pissed off as ever,” and Consequence said the “album will break you down to nihilistic pieces.”

THE RED JUMPSUIT APPARATUS Release Sixth Studio Album ‘X’s For Eyes’
5X Platinum-certified alternative rock mainstays THE RED JUMPSUIT APPARATUS have released their sixth album X’s For Eyes via Better Noise Music and latest single and video, “Perfection.” Against an intense driving rhythm and a big, urgent melody, lead vocalist, guitarist, and founding member Ronnie Winter candidly lays his cards on the table, singing “I like stormy weather” and that “Whatever won’t break can make us” with his signature wide-ranging voice.
Stream/download “Perfection” https://rja.lnk.to/perfection
X’s For Eyes is now available to stream and purchase at https://rja.lnk.to/xforeyesalbum
Winter points out that “Perfection” is “a song about perfect imperfections, about embracing one’s flaws and the true beauty that lies within. It’s a song about individuality, self-acceptance, and the idea that our scars and imperfections make us who we are. Through the lens of perfectly imperfect, what some might consider to be mistakes, flaws, and shortcomings suddenly become good, beautiful, even desirable. It’s a reminder,” he adds, “that being perfectly imperfect is something not to hide but to celebrate.”
X’s For Eyes marks the first full-length album from THE RED JUMPSUIT APPARATUS—vocalist Ronnie Winter, his multi-instrumentalist brother Randy Winter, guitarist Josh Burke, bassist Joey Westwood, drummer John Espy, keyboardist Nadeem Salam, and newest member K Enagonio on vocals—as part of a new partnership with Better Noise Music.“I think that anybody who’s been with us the whole time realizes that we’ve been an activist band since 2006,” Winter says. “So when I see X’s for eyes, it reminds me of the childhood cartoons, the video games—all those things where this is what happens when you don’t do the right thing. You see that character that you know and love, but for three seconds with a bunch of swirling birds over their head and they’ve got X’s for eyes because they made a mistake. They trusted the wrong person, they went in the wrong direction, they chose the wrong path and then POW! Something crazy happens and there’s X’s for eyes, or ‘RIP.’ And I just find that has a parallel reality to now.” He continues, “In 2006, we put a song out called ‘Face Down,’ which was an anti-domestic violence song, which we then toured the country doing everything we could to raise awareness against domestic violence. So that was with song one. And then in 2025, we’re just still continuing that narrative of social justice: doing the right thing, treating women properly, as well as men. Just the mistreatment of others. We’ve broadened that. We’ve broadened that scope. Racism, homophobia—we try to touch on everything that we wanted to make sure our fans who are coming to our show know that we stand behind. And I think we did that. I really do.”
The 11 songs on X’s For Eyes find the band revving up their caffeinated pop sensibilities, throwing down the punishing riffola, delivering more electronic and ambient flourishes, and topping all of it off with Winter’s high-pitched emoting. Factor in some hair-raising cameos from Sleeping With Sirens’ Kellin Quinn (“Always The King”) and Escape The Fate frontman Craig Mabbitt (“Worth It”) and the result is genuinely RJA’s most strident full-length offering yet.

BEN QUAD RELEASE NEW SINGLE PAINLESS. WATCH THE MUSIC VIDEO NOW FORTHCOMING LP WISHER OUT NOVEMBER 14. AVAILABLE TO PRE-ORDER AND PRE-SAVE
Post-emo band Ben Quad released the new single Painless with an accompanying music video. This is the second single off their forthcoming album Wisher, set for release on November 14 via Pure Noise Records.
Painless is about processing feelings of grief and guilt after the loss of a close friend. It deals with the struggle of seeing someone you love show depressive warning signs and feeling helpless in your attempts to reach out to them. In the aftermath, you just wish you could have done something more to show this person how lucky you felt to have them in your life.
“We knew early on in the demoing process that we wanted the vocals to pull from 2000’s emo. The chorus is a big nod to bands such as Taking Back Sunday and features Sam and Henry trading off lines in the classic emo co-vocalist style” says guitarist Edgar Viveros. “For the outro, we wanted to bring back the post-hardcore/screamo heaviness that we showcased on our previous release, ‘Ephemera’. ‘Painless’ not only has the pop-sensibility that we’re introducing with the new record, but also the shreddy, midwest emo guitar lines we’ve come to be known for and the raw, aggressive sound we displayed on our last EP.”
This new track follows their debut single off the record It’s Just a Title, that explores what it’s like living with constant insecurity and questioning your happiness. This music video goes in a different direction as director, Alex Scalzo, chose to make the video all performance shots using various framerate, motion, and lighting techniques. It showcases a darker, more introspective side of the band as opposed to the lightheartedness in the first video.
Stream Painless here and watch the music video here:
Wisher serves as the follow-up to Ben Quad’s 2022 debut I’m Scared That’s All There Is. While the first record captured the uncertainty of youth, Wisher reflects a more hopeful perspective, with the title symbolizing the part of ourselves that looks ahead to a better future. The new album feels like a response to the band’s earlier work, offering growth and optimism in place of doubt.
Leaving the Sooner State for New Jersey, the band connected with producer Jon Markson (The Story So Far, Drug Church) to bring the album to life, taking up residence at his farm/studio for their first real studio experience. Amidst barnyard animals and peaceful countryside, the idyllic setting provided the perfect backdrop – full of time and space – to find themselves and the next evolution of their sound.
Wisher is now available for physical pre-order, and those who do are invited to attend their upcoming in-store performance and signing in Birmingham, AL at Seasick Records. View vinyl and bundle options at https://lnk.to/BenQuad_Stores.
Ben Quad is gearing up to kick off a US tour supporting labelmates, KOYO. Dates begin on October 23 in Toronto, ON at Velvet Underground and will wrap up November 23 in NYC at Racket. The band will then head to the UK/EU supporting Arm’s Length.
“Overall, this record is the most confident we’ve ever been as songwriters,” Viveros continues. “There are moments where we venture into experimental and folky territory, but a good amount of the album is also us having fun and leaning into full pop-sensibility.”

Redspencer delve into life, death and love on anticipated third record Primal Urges out now
Redspencer have revealed their anticipated third record Primal Urges – a charming and enduring listen that balances both wit and warmth across its ten thoughtfully crafted dream-pop tracks. Purchase the vinyl HERE and stream Primal Urges on Spotify, Apple Music, YouTube Music, and Amazon Music.
Their first album in three years, Primal Urges pairs clever observations on life, death, and love with jangly rhythms, compelling lyrics, and melodies that are as comforting as they are memorable, resulting in a record that is both lighthearted and sincere. Songwriter and drummer David McMillan describes the band’s new album as “the most natural music we’ve made to date. The songs I wrote are much more outward focused, less subtle, and reflective of the stage of life we’re in. We’re not spring chickens anymore!”
In July, Redspencer returned with the hazy lo-fi gem ‘This is the Day’, which proved to be an immediate hit with community radio, receiving airplay across 2SER, PBS, Triple R, SYN, 4ZZZ, Edge Radio and many more. ‘Blue Horizon’ followed in August, a love song delving into an imagined conversation between Australia’s most wanted criminal bushranger Frank Gardiner, and his lover Kitty Brown, in the lead up to the Eugowra Gold Escort Robbery. Leaning into Redspencer’s own blend of mellow guitar pop, the two singles set the tone for what follows on Primal Urges, from the misty album opener ‘Dream Of Aphis Creek’ to the retro-filtered final track ‘Something Is Out There’. Their most self-assured body of work yet, Primal Urges was recorded with acclaimed writer, producer, and musician Alex Markwell (The Delta Riggs, Teen Jesus & The Jean Teasers, Kita Alexander).
Redspencer made their return to the headline stage last month with an intimate ‘Blue Horizon’ release show at Fitzroy Pinnacle, packing out the room in the wake of their well-received sunset appearance at Wonder Mountain Festival. The band are set to launch Primal Urges on the live stage later this year, with more details to come.
Citing the jangle of The Clientele, the lo-fi grit of Small World Experience, the slacker-dance of Dean Blunt, the dreaminess of Jessica Pratt, and the pop sensibility of early 2000s Madonna as influences, Redspencer’s knack for bringing some of the best parts of the past forward has seen them clock over 2million streams across their releases. In 2016, their debut album Perks garnered praise across the globe, with catchy lead single ‘Ride It Out’ earning comparisons to Mac DeMarco, The War On Drugs, and Real Estate. The band’s 2021 follow up Dreamworld showcased a more polished – yet still just as thoughtful – sound for Redspencer, hailed by Beat Magazine as “sensational” and launched to a full capacity Brunswick Ballroom in early 2022.
Primal Urges is out now, with vinyl available for pre-order HERE.

Isabel Rumble Explores Womanhood and Voice Ahead of Album Release
Single Out now | Album ‘Hold Everything Lightly’ Out Friday, October 24
With a quiet strength and unflinching honesty, Isabel Rumble returns with ‘Digesting History’. As the final single before her forthcoming album ‘Hold Everything Lightly’ (October 24), it carries the hushed weight of reflection and the gentle clarity of change, offering a key that unlocks the themes at the heart of the record.
‘Hold Everything Lightly’ is an assured statement of identity, a clear distillation of who she is and the gentle strength of Isabel’s indie-folk style. Across ten tracks, she writes through cycles of change, transition, and self-discovery, moving between internal landscapes and the rhythms of the world around her. The record deepens her understanding of womanhood while reconnecting with the stillness at the centre of it all. As Isabel explains:
“The songs that make up my second album are the most raw and honest I have written… This record is a return to the stillness at the centre of it all, and to the simplicity of the heart’s voice.”
For this newest track, ‘Digesting History’, Isabel Rumble reveals a different flavour to anything she has shared before, marking the first time she has released a song written on piano. Tender and heartfelt, the track opens with piano and Isabel’s dulcet voice, before plucked strings join in unison and a grounding double bass steadies the frame. As the song unfolds, the strings shift into smooth, bowed textures, expanding the arrangement like a breath held and released.
Lyrically, ‘Digesting History’ wrestles with how stories are told and whose voices they carry. It is both a questioning and a claiming, as Isabel places herself firmly within those narratives with a longing to be heard. Gentle yet resolute, the track becomes her call to untame and to explore what it has always meant to be a woman in this world.
To celebrate the release of ‘Hold Everything Lightly’, Isabel Rumble will embark on a national tour through October and November, bringing her intimate indie-folk storytelling to audiences across the country. From cosy bookshops and town halls to iconic venues like Melbourne’s Brunswick Ballroom, the tour will showcase the album’s tender spirit in spaces built for deep listening. Joined by a rotating cast of special guests, Isabel invites listeners to welcome softness and presence, and share in songs that open space to connect with the heart.
‘Digesting History’ is out now, with Isabel Rumble’s full album ‘Hold Everything Lightly’ to follow on October 24.

ALEIA Announces Debut EP And Whispers Sweet Turmoil in Title Track ‘Public Humiliation’
Out Friday, October 3 | EP Out Friday, November 6
Perth/Boorloo indie-pop / alt / folk artist ALEIA has a rare gift for alchemising heartache into something luminous, and that gift finds its fullest form on her debut EP ‘Public Humiliation’, arriving Thursday, November 6. The title track, out today, spills first like ink across the page. It’s a tender, tear-streaked addition to a collection that traces the bruised outlines of modern love, the ache of almosts, and the quiet humiliation of wanting too much in a world that gives too little.
With just two singles to her name, ALEIA already shimmers as a rare presence in the Australian indie folk pop landscape, with a lyricism that speaks candid truths and lends to tender introspection. Her debut EP builds on that promise, unfolding as a gentle reckoning, a heartfelt unravelling of love’s emotional debris, pieced together with clarity, vulnerability and care. Speaking on the EP, ALEIA states:
“’Public Humiliation’ is an EP I wrote after being jaded with love. I was newly single with my frontal lobe fully developed and realising I had only experienced toxic long-term relationships, painful situationships, and a nightmarish uncommitted life of casual dating. Being in love felt like a humiliation ritual to prove that you can be loved. It was sobering to be so self-aware of how embarrassing it is to be vulnerable in a culture that is used to romanticising casual sex.”
On the title track, ALEIA’s instrumentation is delicate yet deliberate, a slow bloom where every element feels exposed. Gentle, slow-strummed guitar sets a mournful tone, soft at first, then growing sharper and more resolute as the pained feeling crests. Layered vocals glide in close, intimate and aching, creating a space that feels like a whispered confession shared in the quiet aftermath of heartbreak.
Wrapped in a shroud of melancholy, drums and electric guitar join, riffing slowly in a weary, reflective haze. The track clings to its grit like a haunted memory, and as the chorus arrives, it exhales in raw release, carried by chilling synths.
Another page from her life’s story, ‘Public Humiliation’ reflects on how today’s dating pool feels more like a tsunami, where situationships are an unavoidable phenomenon in the waves, leaving the people they drench exhausted, embarrassed, and feeling like they should have known better.
This powerful yet pained title track is out now, offering another glimpse into ALEIA’s debut EP, set to release Thursday, November 6.

Mel Parsons shares powerful new ballad ‘Don’t Leave the Light On’
Critically acclaimed singer and songwriter Mel Parsons has today released ‘Don’t Leave the Light On’ – a heart-rending alt-folk ballad, which lays bare the harsh reality of domestic abuse. Listen to ‘Don’t Leave the Light On HERE
“Anyone listening closely to the lyrics in my songs would have picked up that this is not a new subject matter for me. But this is the first time I’ve spoken so explicitly about being in an abusive relationship – not of physical violence, but of insidiously controlling, belittling, gaslighting and pervasively negative behaviour,” says Mel.
“I don’t usually discuss publicly what specific songs are about, but now it feels like enough time has passed that I am able to. Honestly, I’d rather just sing my songs, but I am speaking up in case my story reaches someone who sees themselves in me and who needs to hear it.”
Mel adds, “Unfortunately I think my situation is more common than we think. Because of the shame around it, people hide it. And they get good at hiding it. That was me.”
The poignant message in ‘Don’t Leave the Light On’ is depicted in a powerful video directed by Mel’s good friend, actor and comedian Emma Newborn and starring fellow singer-songwriter, and actor Sally Stockwell.
Sparse and dark, the video portrays the emotional journey through an abusive relationship. It charts a rollercoaster of emotions and behaviours, from shock and denial, to isolation from loved ones, numbness, grief, anger and then escape.
Written by Mel and produced by Josh Logan, ‘Don’t Leave the Light On’ is the latest in a string of singles the multi-award-winning artist has released this year. It follows ‘Be Here Now’ featuring Mitchell Froom (Crowded House) on keys; ‘Brick By Brick’ and ‘Post High Slide’, all of which hint at a new project on the horizon.
Mel is one of Aotearoa’s most celebrated songwriters and prolific touring musicians. Last year she toured extensively across the country and also opened for Crowded House. This year, she has toured both sides of the Tasman and performed at Folk Alliance in Montreal, Canada.
Notable albums include the AMA-winning GLASS HEART (2019), the superb SLOW BURN (2022) and the chart-topping SABOTAGE (2024), which was nominated for the prestigious Taite Prize and Album of the Year at this year’s Aotearoa Music Awards.
This album [SABOTAGE] really locates the mournful quality in Mel Parsons’ voice, and highlights what a remarkable instrument it is; oceans of feeling sounded out with apparently little effort” – Tony Stamp, RNZ
The nominations sit alongside awards and accolades Melhas picked up across her career, including ‘Best Folk Artist’ at the 2020 AMAs.

CHEERSQUAD (AUS) & FOLC RECORDS (SPAIN) ARE PROUD TO ANNOUNCE A 40TH ANNIVERSARY REISSUE OF “I CAN’T CONTROL MYSELF”/”BORN TO BE PUNCHED”, THE MUCH-LOVED 1985 SINGLE BY WA & AUSTRALIAN ROCK’N’ROLL LEGEND JAMES BAKER AND THE JAMES BAKER EXPERIENCE
JAMES BAKER was an Australian rock ’n roll legend, the godfather of Perth punk, co-founder of The Victims, The Scientists, Hoodoo Gurus, Beasts of Bourbon, Dubrovniks and more.
To mark 40 years since James released his first and for a long time only ‘solo’ single, Cheersquad Records & Tapes is thrilled to present the first ever reissue of the JAMES BAKER EXPERIENCE’s single, “I Can’t Control Myself” / “Born To Be Punched”.
Featuring a pounding cover of The Troggs’ “I Can’t Control Myself” on the topside – James was the world’s biggest Troggs fan, and he would occasionally venture out from behind his drums (handing his sticks to Brad Shepherd) to sing this one for an encore in his Hoodoo Gurus days – and the hilarious and raunchy New York Dolls-inspired original “Born To Be Punched” (which sounds like a long lost track by another of James’ faves the Hollywood Brats) on the flip, the single was recorded not long after James and the Gurus parted ways. It features a young Tex Perkins on bass and James’ mate from Scientists and later Dubrovniks day, Rod Radalj as well as Tex’s mate Stu Spasm on guitars.
Apart from being a classic and a milestone in James’s life of rock ’n roll, “I Can’t Control Myself” / “Born To Be Punched” has further historical significance because it was the first ever release on Red Eye Records, and features brilliant cover art from Red Eye founder John Foy.
With neither side having been available in any format for decades (indeed, since a 1990 Red Eye singles collection), this is an absolutely essential reissue which will be in high demand AROUND THE WORLD, so don’t think twice before ordering a copy!
Cheersquad’s edition of “I Can’t Control Myself”/”Born To Be Punched” is out now in five variants – 100 of copies of each.

NEEM Unveils Tender New Single ‘I Miss You’
Off the back of his performance at The Festival of Small Halls where he opened for Georgia Mooney and Joe H Henry, Folk singer, songwriter, and performer Neem returns with a raw and heartfelt single, ‘I Miss You’. I Miss You is a reflection on love lost too soon. Written with unflinching honesty, the song captures that bittersweet moment when someone who once knew you best suddenly feels out of reach.
With vivid storytelling and a melody that lingers, Neem explores the quiet ache of missing someone while still holding space for connection—even if only as friends. It’s tender, vulnerable, and deeply human—perfect for late-night listening when memories hit hardest.
“‘I Miss You’ came from that moment when someone who once felt like your whole world suddenly slips away. It’s about the quiet ache of missing them, but also holding on to the hope of still being connected—even if only as friends.” Neem explains, “Writing this song was my way of sitting with that vulnerability and turning it into something others might see themselves in.” Comparable to that of Jack Johnson, Neem’s music inspires atmospheres of intimacy and community — songs for long drives, quiet sunsets, and around a fire with friends. His writing is candid, reflective and sometimes cheeky, capturing the beauty and weight of life in melodies led by warm, melodic guitar. Artist Bio: Neem is a folk singer, songwriter, and performer whose music evokes the feeling of road trips, slow mornings, and evenings spent around a fire with friends.
His sound blends introspective storytelling with melodic guitar work, offering songs that are as reflective as they are relatable—honest, occasionally cheeky, and deeply human. Based between the Gold Coast and Sunshine Coast, Neem has collaborated and performed with a diverse range of artists, including Jollee, Tesh Batkins, Amela, Amira, Zola Sky, Tom Wensley, and James Davies. His co-writing credits with these artists reflect a commitment to creative connection and community-driven artistry. A passionate advocate for the local creative scene, Neem is dedicated to fostering a more inclusive and supportive music industry—one where emerging voices are heard and artists are empowered to thrive. Neem is always open to meaningful collaboration and conversation.
Whether you’re an artist, fellow creative, or someone who simply resonates with the music, he welcomes the chance to connect. ‘I Miss You’ will be available on all streaming platforms from October 17, 2025.

ONE TREE HILL co-stars TYLER HILTON & KATE VOEGELE to tour Australia & New Zealand in 2026, celebrating the music of iconic TV show
Tyler Hilton & Kate Voegele, who played Chris Keller and Mia Catalano respectively on the iconic US TV program One Tree Hill, will be making their way down under in 2026 for a special run of shows across Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne, Auckland, Belgrave, Adelaide & Perth, presented by MRG Live.
The tour follows on from a successful solo tour from Tyler Hilton in 2025, which saw the artist/actor sell out the Northcote Social Club in Melbourne and pack out rooms across the country. The ‘Celebrating The Music of One Tree Hill’ is currently underway overseas, with the duo selling out shows across the US and Canada already. The Tour marks the second time the pair have toured Australia together, with their debut visit back in 2017 – and provides a special, unmissable experience for fans of the show as they play on stage together working their way through the music from the show.
One Tree Hill was a phenomenon when it first aired in 2003 via the WB/CW. Running for a total of 9 seasons, the series has been named one of the greatest dramas of all time by the likes of Cosmopolitan, Digital Spy and Entertainment Weekly. Music played an important role throughout the show’s run, with each episode named after a particular song, artist or album that has something in common with the theme of the episode. Tyler himself appeared on all three of the soundtrack albums – with his cover of the Ryan Adams song ‘When The Stars Go Blue’; his cover of ‘Missing You’ by John Waite & his original song ‘You’ll Ask For Me’.
Tyler Hilton has had an incredible award winning career across his work on the screen and stage – From portraying Elvis Presley in Walk the Line (2005) & his work on One Tree Hill, to writing and touring with the likes of Taylor Swift, Lady Antebellum and Joe Cocker.
Born and raised in California, Tyler grew up in a family of talented musicians who had played for acts like Fleetwood Mac, George Harrison and Donovan. Performing with his family from an early age, Hilton became serious about songwriting at 14. At 15, he called into L.A.’s KLOS radio station to win concert tickets and ended up wowing the hosts with an on-air performance. The station made him a regular guest and helped launch his debut record, which caught the ear of Warner Bros. Records, who signed him to record his second album The Tracks of Tyler Hilton, earning him two Top 40 singles. Most recently, Hilton released his EP ‘No Man’s Land’ in 2024, and worked on the score for the 2024 film ‘My Old Ass’ starring Aubrey Plaza & Maisy Stella, writing and performing on each track for the film.
“I’m so excited to be headed back to Australia on the “Celebrating the Music of One Tree Hill” Tour. This is truly my favorite place to tour in the entire world. Getting to come back solo earlier this year in February 2025 was such a beautiful reminder of how much I love and missed this place after spending several years away and also how much of a blast it was last time Kate and I got to come back over to OZ together. We’ve added double the amount of shows this time — plus a New Zealand play which is a first for both of us.” TYLER HILTON
Kate Voegele is an LA based singer/songwriter, recording artist, actor, painter and content creator. Along with playing thousands of shows touring internationally for the last decade alongside the likes of John Mayer & Counting Crows, Voegele has released 4 studio albums to date, selling over 500,000 copies in total and racking up millions of streams in the process. Most recently, Kate has released, ‘The Best Part (French Version),’ a single in collaboration with indie band Bien; and released the debut album from her band Your Future Ghost earlier in 2025.
“I’m so thrilled to be coming back to Australia for our Celebrating the Music of One Tree Hill tour! My first tour in Australia was truly unforgettable, and I’ve been so excited to come back again ever since. It’s such a beautiful country and I was so creatively inspired last time we came through. Getting to play in New Zealand for the first time on this run is going to be incredible, and I’m so looking forward to meeting all the amazing fans in every city!” KATE VOEGELE

Rising Brisbane indie group VINTED VINEER release new single, ‘you’
Brisbane’s very own Vinted Vineer have just served up a fresh dose of dreamy goodness– carrying on from the momentum of their recent release ‘zzz’, the band have dropped a gorgeous new number titled ‘you’. Incorporating elements of psychedelic, shoegaze, alt-pop and indie, the track is a visceral love song which captures the moment of meeting a soulmate for the first time.
On the themes and meaning behind the song itself, Vinted Vineer said: “‘You’ is a love song. It’s about moving from a place of loneliness to suddenly finding love, sometimes in ways you don’t expect. It’s that feeling when someone enters your life and changes everything for better or for worse. The song sits in that space between relief, hope, and the unexpected ways love can arrive. When I wrote it, I was feeling lonely and started imagining what it would be like to have someone break through that solitude. The lyrics came from that mix of longing and the simple idea of love showing up out of nowhere.” VINTED VINEER
Recorded at their home studio in Brisbane with sound engineering by Ruben McIntyre, ‘you’ exists within a dreamlike and ethereal moment in time. Driven by a pulsing heartbeat, flowing with waves of warmth and sentimentality; the single pulls the listener upwards with ease, floating and cloudlike in its soundscape. On the process of hand-crafting the track into the stunning entity we hear now, the band’s very own Dominic noted:
“The song started with me teaching myself a little picking pattern and over a few months it grew slowly from there… The lyrics are plain spoken, the melodies are direct, and the structure had to reflect that. Love can be uncomplicated and we wanted the song to carry that feeling. In the studio we tried different versions, adding layers and taking them away, but in the end it circled back to being close to the first demo. That was the moment we realised it worked best when we didn’t overthink it. We kept it natural, even adding a banjo in the outro just for fun, but never pushing it too far from where it began.” VINTED VINEER
Vinted Vineer have spent much of the last couple of years building up their live repertoire, playing opening slots for the likes of Velvet Trip, Le Shiv, Nice Biscuit, Sunbeam Sound Machine and more. Now, these Brisbanites will take centrestage for the launch of the brand new single, celebrating ‘you’ with a hometown gig on October 18th. To follow, the band will play a string of shows throughout October and November, with dates lined up in Brunswick Heads, Lennox Head, Sunshine Coast, Wollongong, Sydney and Ballina!

SPACEY JANE UNVEILS ‘ESTIMATED DELIVERY (MAGIC MEGAMIX)’ FEATURING MALLRAT + NEW ALBUM IF THAT MAKES SENSE NOMINATED FOR TWO ARIA AWARDS + PLAYING ROLLING SETS, BEYOND THE VALLEY AND THE GREAT ESCAPE FESTIVALS THIS SUMMER
Australian indie rock sensation Spacey Jane unveils ‘Estimated Delivery (Magic Megamix)’ featuring fellow Australian singer/rapper Mallrat. Of the collaboration, Spacey Jane says, “We’re huge fans of Grace (aka Mallrat) and have been lucky enough to become good friends over the last few years. She’s an amazing fit for the song and as soon as we heard her verse we were hooked. It’s always cool to see a song given a new life and it’s even better when it’s the homie.”
Mallrat furthers, “The first time I hung out with Spacey Jane we crossed a street and I noticed a praying mantis on the road. I pointed it out to Peppa but the lights were changing and cars were about to run it over. Pep ran onto the road at the last possible second and scooped the praying mantis to safety. That’s when I knew that we were going to be friends. I love this Spacey album. It was so fun playing with the production and writing a new verse on this gorgeous song to ratify it.”
The original version of the track appears on the band’s third studio album, If That Makes Sense, which is out now. The album has been nominated for two 2025 ARIA Awards; Best Rock Album and Best Video. Produced by Mike Crossey (The 1975, Arctic Monkeys, Wolf Alice), the new music continues to receive widespread critical praise;
“[This is] the kind of indie rock offering that makes you remember why you’d even fall in love in the first place, spelling out truths and vulnerable revelations over driving guitar parts and buoyant drums.” PAPER
Following their massively successful Australian and North American tours, the band is set to perform at Austin City Limits Music Festival on Saturday, 11 October. On top of that, their global run includes further headline shows in London, Manchester, Paris, Amsterdam, Berlin and many more iconic cities. Following the international run the band will be back home to perform at Rolling Sets, Beyond The Valley and The Great Escape festivals this summer.
The new album follows 2022’s Here Comes Everybody and 2020’s Sunlight. The band became a hometown sensation after the release of Sunlight, topping Triple J’s annual album poll with breakout single ‘Booster Seat’ and earning the ARIA for Song of the Year. Inspired by the success of their debut album, Spacey Jane got to work on their sophomore album, which debuted at #1 on the ARIACharts and earned them the title of TripleJ’s most played artist in 2022.
Upcoming Australian festival dates

6 December – Rolling Sets, Central Coast, NSW

Pop-punk powerhouse Action/Adventure has debuted Spiral, the latest single from the band’s forthcoming album Ever After. Spiral – a song fueled by being in the grips of anxiety – is out now and streaming here.
On the new single, guitarist Oren Trace shares: “This song is about sitting in a room at 2AM after having a slow day with a looming anxiety that someone close to you has something difficult to tell you, but they’ve been avoiding it. Trying to distract yourself to sleep but never getting fully out of your head. Wondering what Tay Zonday is up to.”
The video (https://www.youtube.com/watch?si=wmDWyxr4nLeFDw92&v=I916gOoR7Xk&feature=youtu.be) was directed by vocalist Blake Evaristo, who adds: “The opportunity to direct this music video was one I did not take lightly. After all the stress of planning, shooting, and editing I’m super stoked on how it turned out. I think it captures the anxiety ridden feel of the song while providing a fun visual treat for the eyes just in time for the Halloween spirit. It really was a labor of love between the band, video crew, and all our friends and I think that’ll come through when you watch it.Whether your’re a fan of pop-punk or a lover of spooky movies, this package hits all the right notes just in time for your new autumn anthem.”
Ever After, set to be released on October 24 via Pure Noise Records, marks a bold new chapter for the Chicago-based band, pairing their signature high-energy riffs and soaring hooks with deeper storytelling, unapologetic emotion, and the urgency fans have come to expect. About Action/Adventure: Formed in 2014, the group – Blake Evaristo (lead vocals), Brompton Jackson (vocals/guitar), Adrian Brown (drums), Manny Avila (bass), and Oren Trace (guitar) -first broke through in 2020 when their debut TikTok video, Barricades, went viral, spotlighting the obstacles they faced as an all-BIPOC band within the pop-punk scene. They followed that moment with 2021’s Pulling Focus EP and their 2022 Pure Noise debut, Imposter Syndrome – a record that, despite its title, proved their place as one of the genre’s most vital and distinctive voices.
Ever After builds on that foundation. Confident yet self-aware, the album acknowledges the struggles of balancing art with everyday life, and the pressures of following up a breakthrough debut. “This is literally the hardest thing I’ve ever done in my entire life,” admits Jackson. “The industry is so different from what we thought it would be as kids. The theme of this record is the duality of everyday life versus band life, and trying to make them coexist without losing yourself in the process.”
With producer Alan Day (Four Year Strong, Knuckle Puck) at the helm, the band pushed themselves creatively, recording at Ghost Hit Studio in Springfield, Massachusetts. The result is 11 songs that chart a journey through doubt, perseverance, and renewal.
The record also features a handful of notable collaborations: Dan Lambton (rationale., ex-Real Friends) lends his voice to Something Isn’t Right Here, Armor For Sleep’s Ben Jorgensen co-wrote and appears on Background, and UK artist Noahfinnce joins the band on Go Directly to Jail. Do Not Pass Go. Do Not Collect $200, a track critiquing systemic inequities.

At the core of Afterglow is a world-class roster of songwriting talent. The EP features contributions from some of the industry’s most in-demand writers: Amy Allen – widely regarded as the world’s hottest songwriter with credits for Harry Styles’ Adore You and Sabrina Carpenter’s Please, Please, Please; Adam Yaron, co-writer of Alex Warren’s current global hit Ordinary; pop superstar Benson Boone; and Feli Ferraro, who has penned tracks for BTS and Halsey. Midnight Til Morning themselves are also credited as songwriters throughout the EP – underscoring their creative vision and hands-on role in shaping their debut. Together, this line-up of hitmakers emphasises Midnight Til Morning’s arrival as a group with both the talent and the network to thrive on a global stage.
A dynamic seven-song collection, Afterglow captures the full spectrum of Midnight Til Morning’s sound. It brings together standout singles Bye and Navy Eyes, which introduced the band to a global audience, alongside fan-favourites Ghost of Us and Welcome to LA. The focus track, Heart on Fire, sits at the centre as an up-tempo, stage-built anthem, with the track-list rounded out by two brand-new cuts, 17 and Edge of Amazing.
Heart on Fire was written by Yaron, Ferraro, Joshua Murty (Niko Moon) and Castle (Anne-Marie), and produced by Murty, whose polished yet emotional touch underscores the track’s anthemic punch. The accompanying video here, directed by Josh Harris with the acclaimed team at Recliner, pays homage to the iconic 90s and 00s campaigns from Gap and Calvin Klein – elevated, stylish, and bursting with energy to mirror the pure adrenaline of an MTM live show.
“Heart on Fire feels like the perfect song to lead into Afterglow because it captures the energy we want to bring to our shows and to this whole era,” says Mason Watts. “This EP is really the beginning of our story – we’ve poured every part of ourselves into these seven songs, and we can’t wait for people to connect with them the same way we do.”
Extending the story, 17 delivers a nostalgic, coming-of-age anthem that captures the wide-eyed rush of first love and youthful ambition. With soaring melodies and heartfelt lyrics, it showcases the band’s gift for weaving intimacy into widescreen pop. Meanwhile, stunning new ballad, Edge of Amazing channels Midnight Til Morning’s euphoric side, a track built for those live moments on tour where fans can lose themselves in the music together. These new songs solidify the EP as a complete body of work – a true statement of intent.
Formed on the Top 10 Global Netflix series Building the Band, Midnight Til Morning blends soaring vocals, emotional vulnerability, and undeniable charisma. The four-piece features Watts (26, Toowoomba, QLD), Conor Smith (22, Central Coast, NSW), Shane Appell (22, Upstate New York), and Zach Newbould (22, Boston, MA).
With career-defining endorsements, including Liam Payne’s early backing (“I’ve got a very big soft spot for you boys; you remind me a lot of what we were like. Don’t let me down!”) and a fast-growing audience, Midnight Til Morning’s ascent has been lightning fast. Since their debut in August, they’ve already surpassed 11 million streams on Spotify and expanded their U.S. and European tours with multiple second shows due to demand.
Afterglow is released globally through Chugg Music, with Midnight Til Morning signed to the label and management powerhouse for worldwide representation. Helmed by legendary music executive Michael Chugg AM and Andrew Stone – Chugg Music’s Co-Founder & CEO and the band’s manager and Head of A&R – MTM are positioned as one of the label’s most ambitious and globally focused acts.
On the touring front, Midnight Til Morning have signed to CAA for global live representation – Brian Manning and Brian Greenbaum for North America, Nigel Hassler for the UK, Europe, Latin America and Asia – and Evan Davis at Cornershop Agency for Australia and New Zealand. Their international touring strategy is further strengthened by a key partnership with AEG, ensuring the band’s live rollout is backed by one of the world’s most powerful promoters.
With Afterglow, the band step boldly into their biggest chapter yet – cementing their arrival as one of pop’s most dynamic new forces.

KEE’AHN SHARES, ‘THE WAY I LOVE’ THE FINAL SINGLE FROM THE FOR ME, FOR YOU X,
OUT now VIA NORTHSIDE RECORDS + NEW VIDEO AND UPCOMING TOUR DATES
for me for you x – out now via Northside Records
Naarm-based Kee’ahn (she/they/nyulu) shares ‘the way I love’, the final single from her new EP for me for you, out now via Northside Records. To celebrate the release, Kee’ahn will perform Live at Triple R this Friday, 10 October, before embarking on a headline tour throughout November, with shows in Sydney, Brisbane, Townsville, and Melbourne.
The five-track EP, Kee’ahn’s first vinyl release, brings together recent singles ‘At Least For Now’, ‘This Is Not the End‘ and ‘Heavy’, along with the 2020 debut single ‘Better Things’, which earned her the Archie Roach Foundation Award and Music Victoria’s Best Emerging Artist. The collection signals a deepening embrace of her groove-driven neo-soul sound, with ongoing support from triple j, Double J, and community radio.
The new single ‘the way I love’ finds Kee’ahn reflecting on boundaries and the evolving nature of love. “It’s about making decisions that serve me for how I need to be treated in relationships,” Kee’ahn shares. “It’s about realising how clarity, honesty, and generosity are the bare minimum and that we all deserve to be around people who meet us in our entirety. I’ve learnt that I want to give love to those who can receive it, and who want to learn how to love me in the ways I need to be loved.”
The song was created with producers Jake Amy and Anthony Liddell, who also played keyboards, organs, and bass, alongside Sensible J on drums, Basil Byrne on trumpet and Elle Shimada on strings. “We wanted a vintage nostalgia sound that feels soulful, appreciative, and triumphant honouring the message of hope and love being abundant.”
Shot across from Brunswick favourite Dre’s Deli, the accompanying music video, filmed by Sapphic Flicks (Merryn Trescott, Jamie Connor, Grace Auld, Ella Clarke-King, Brenna Furnace), captures the warmth and community spirit that defines Kee’ahn’s music. She shares, “It’s reminiscent of Amy Winehouse, Joy Crookes, Lily Allen, with some tongue-in-cheek lyrics and over-the-top acting. My friends all feature in the background, and we have an ongoing theme of flowers representing the love we have to give to others and the love we have for ourselves. It’s colourful and celebratory.”
Kee’ahn, whose name is derived from kee’an, the Wik word meaning to dance and to play, is a proud Yalanji, Jirrbal, and Badulaig artist. Her music is steeped in connection to culture, community, Country, and self. Her soulful voice and storytelling has had a powerful impact on the Australian music scene, earning her the Archie Roach Foundation Award and Music Victoria’s Best Emerging Artist award. She has collaborated with Baker Boy, performing at the 2025 AFL Grand Final, and shared stages with the likes of Julia Jacklin, Hiatus Kaiyote, Greentea Peng, and Angie McMahon.

ASHA RYDER WEST dives into new era with the poignant track ‘TOO MUCH’
Melbourne artist ASHA RYDER WEST has had a musical journey which, to date, has let her explore some beautiful and atmospheric blends of pop, electronic and experimental influences. All of these have produced music that has excited, intrigued and offered up an unique set of perspectives from the songwriter about navigating young adulthood.
This year, she returns with brand new music – the first since her 2023 debut album Ethereality – in the stirring single, ‘Too Much’. The song is a reaffirming piece of music from West, who looks ahead to a bright new chapter with emotional maturity and optimism as to where her music will take her.
For ‘Too Much’, production of the song began in West’s home studio, with the talented artist starting the process in a very solo, intimate way. It then found its way into the hands of West’s dad, producer Dorian West, who brought “a really cool, live energy that gave the song a whole new dimension.”
‘Too Much’ is the first song West wrote since completing her debut album and as such, it lands with impact. This is a song that marks a new stride forward for West, and will provide long time and new fans alike with a pointer towards what is coming next.
“‘Too Much’ is about both hope and fear that you experience in the early stages of love. You feel wonder, desire and possibility, but alongside that, lies uncertainty, the fear that nothing is promised. The production of the song mirrors this emotional duality, opening in a dreamlike soundscape and then moving into a haunting and dark ending.” ASHA RYDER WEST
With early comparisons to artists like Lana Del Rey, Kelsey Lu and FKA twigs putting her on radars in Australia, West has grown her following significantly off the back of arresting live performances, supporting the likes of Tina Arena and Taylor Sheridan, to name a few.
Industry support has continued to grow for her music, with Ethereality gaining praise from both Triple J Unearthed and Australian community radio, while West’s compositional skills also garnered exposure and momentum thanks to her work on songs ‘Surrender’ and ‘Lost In Outer Space’ for the Australian film, The Fort.
‘Too Much’ is out Thursday October 9th
