To celebrate the release of her highly anticipated new album, Creature of Habit, Courtney Barnett returns to the Sydney Opera House on Friday 6 November. Part of a major global tour, the performance marks the Grammy-nominated Australian singer-songwriter’s first Concert Hall appearance since 2018.
The product of isolation and wide-open landscapes – from the deserts of Joshua Tree to her home studio – Creature of Habit captures Barnett in a period of creative renewal, expanding her sound while sharpening the intimacy and clarity. Led by the reflective single Site Unseen, featuring Waxahatchee, the album has already drawn wide acclaim, with The Guardian calling it “the sound of a door being kicked off its hinges.”

A virtuoso guitarist and razor-sharp songwriter, the Sydney-born, Los Angeles-based artist has earned numerous local accolades, including ARIA Awards for Best Independent Album and Best Breakthrough Artist, as well as the J Award for Best Australian Album and more. She then rose to international acclaim with her 2014 breakout Avant Gardener, followed by her Grammy-nominated debut Sometimes I Sit and Think, and Sometimes I Just Sit (2015), featuring defining tracks Pedestrian At Best and Depreston. She expanded her catalogue with Lotta Sea Lice (2017), a collaboration with Kurt Vile, alongside acclaimed solo releases Tell Me How You Really Feel (2018) and Things Take Time, Take Time (2021), and the 2023 documentary Anonymous Club.
