Oxfam proudly supports National NAIDOC Week celebrations, which are held across Australia in the first week of July each year (Sunday to Sunday). This year, 5 July marks the beginning of NAIDOC Week.
NAIDOC Week gives all Australians a chance to engage with the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
This year’s theme is Fifty Years of Deadly. In the words of the organisers:
“It’s a tribute to the people who built this movement. The Elders who stood firm, the organisers who made space, the artists who turned resistance into expression, and the communities who keep showing up, year after year.”
NAIDOC Week means many things to many people, but at its heart, it’s about recognising the strength, joy, resilience, advocacy, creativity and leadership of First Peoples around the country.
It’s a time for everyone living on this land to come together and celebrate the oldest, continuous living cultures on earth.
Want to connect with First Peoples in your community, explore local cultures and support Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander artists? Events will be held across the country for NAIDOC Week, meaning there’s something for everyone.
Check out the events in your local area on the NAIDOC Week events page and celebrate Fifty Years of Deadly.
