Grammy Award winning singer-songwriter Leon Bridges has announced he will bring The Happiness Anytime Tour to Australia in February and March 2027.
On his seventh Australian visit, Leon will visit some of the country’s most exquisite outdoor venues, beginning with an iconic Sydney Opera House Forecourt performance on Friday 26 February. Brisbane’s On the Banks and Melbourne’s Royal Botanic Gardens will follow, along with stops at Walyalup Fremantle Arts Centre and WOMADelaide Festival through March.
With Part 3 – the final instalment – of his anticipated fifth studio album Happiness Anytime out on 25 September, Leon is embracing a sun-soaked new sound. Already released, Parts 1 and 2 combine the sonic warmth of Leon’s beloved 2015 debut Coming Home with the adventurous spirit of his Khruangbin collaborations.
Produced by J Lloyd-Watson and Lydia Kitto of British trio Jungle, a clear focus on movement, groove and joy flows throughout the 12-song offering. “For me, happiness is not a feeling that you chase,” Bridges says. “I want this album to be something that lingers with people and lingers in people’s bones.”
Happiness Anytime is unmistakably Leon Bridges: his singular voice, effortless charisma, and melodic instincts transforms his influences into something wholly his own. It’s an album built for long days and warm nights and will undoubtedly become the unofficial soundtrack of this summer. ‘Talk It Over’ is Bridges’ upbeat ode to working it out. Shot in Amsterdam, the official music video centres on the album’s inspiration – movement, dancing and joy. Watch HERE.
Celebrated for his captivating on-stage presence, Bridges is a rare talent and true entertainer. Live in concert, his timeless voice and effortless charisma take on an entirely new dimension, with performances defined by impeccable musicianship, infectious energy and a genuine sense of joy. Bridges has graced many of the world’s most prestigious stages, and over six Australian tours, has progressed from intimate theatres to multiple sold-out Opera House Concert Halls, preeminent arena and outdoor venues, and some of the country’s finest wineries.
Over the past months, Leon has been rolling the album out with pop up performances in Paris, Cannes, Los Angeles, Montreux Jazz Festival, London, Chicago and Outside Lands. As he has begun introducing the new music live, Bridges has also unveiled ‘Leon Bridges Presents Happiness Anytime’ – a reimagined stage production featuring a DJ, horn section, three backing vocalists and Bridges himself out front. Inspired in part by the communal spirit of classic Jamaican dance hall culture, the performances mirror the album’s emphasis on movement and dance.
Special guest 54 Ultra will join Leon on his headline dates in Sydney, Brisbane, Fremantle and Melbourne. Based in New Jersey, 54 Ultra is the solo project of singer, songwriter and producer JohnAnthony Rodriguez. In the kaleidoscopic world of music, 54 Ultra emerges as a beacon of sonic fusion, weaving synthy indie rock with a Latin soul heartbeat. His latest release ‘Tell Me’, is a bilingual indie-soul gem that captures the push and pull of romance, pairing warm Latin influences with hazy, nostalgic production and an undeniably infectious groove. With huge moments at Coachella and Lollapalooza this year, along with a support slot on Malcolm Todd’s upcoming North American tour, 54 Ultra is firmly stepping into the spotlight as one of the most exciting voices in music.
Australian funk journeymen Surprise Chef join the bill in Melbourne, bringing their intricate grooves to the Royal Botanic Gardens this March. Their latest record and fifth studio album Frogs In A Pond is forthcoming on Concord Jazz — a lush and beautifully-crafted suite of cinematic soul inspired by 60s and 70s Italian cinema. The lauded Coburg quartet have been celebrated across the globe for their irreverent instrumentals and keen musicianship, as long-time students of their own “College Of Knowledge” — the share house-slash-recording studio where they live and work.
